Chapter 41
As soon as Yeon-young opened the door, she saw a row of hundreds of dresses.
There were all kinds of dresses hanging on the hangers divided into tiers.
Yeon-young was mesmerized by the beautiful sight and looked at the clothes.
Monenmo pushed past the rows of clothes and dragged her into the dressing room.
Ryu Won smiled and told her to meet him later.
The dressing room was spacious enough for two people to wrestle and fight.
“You must be the Kim Yeon-young from the rumors. You’re beautiful.” “Oh, thank you.”Yeon-young was flattered by the sudden compliment.
In her opinion, Monenmo was even more beautiful than she was.
Monenmo fidgeted with the hem of her khaki dress. Yeon-Young stood and stared.
“A long time ago, when I first built this place, Mr. Ryu Won helped me a lot.” “Mr. Ryu Won?” “Yes, Mr. Ryu Won was my first customer, although he’s only coming to visit now.”Monenmo came out of another room carrying a dress. The dress was wrapped in a thin veil.
It looked like it had been stored somewhere for a very long time, but it was immaculately preserved.
When she removed the veil, the rose-colored gown was halfway down her back.
The jewels embedded in the fabric sparkled in the light as the hem of the dress moved.
It was a beautiful dress, a dream to look at.
Monenmo held the dress in front of Yeon-Young. She pointed at herself and shook her head.
“Do you really think I should wear this? I don’t think I look good in it…” “Ms. Yeon-young, how many dresses do you think I’ve made since I died? You’re the owner of this one.”She couldn’t help but shut her mouth at Monenmo’s firm words. With a confident touch, Monenmo helped her into the dress.
She let Monenmo hold her like a doll, lost in thought.
She wondered how long it had taken Monenmo to build this shop.
When did Ryu Won order this dress?
And why did she say that this dress belonged to her?
It was like realizing that she had been swept away by a wave only after she had sunk into the ocean.
“It’s done.”Sometimes Monenmo would pull on the laces so hard that it was hard to breathe, but it was bearable.
Yeon-young took the opportunity to sigh.
It occurred to her that she should use her ability to read Ryu Won’s memories a little more actively.
“It’s really over now.”Smoothing the hem of her dress, Monenmo took two steps away to watch her.
Her cheeks flushed a peach color at the artist’s gaze on her muse.
After touching her hair lightly, Monenmo grabbed the hem of the dressing room curtain with satisfaction.
Through the curtain, she could see Ryu Won leaning comfortably against the back of the sofa.
His legs crossed and deep in thought, he slowly stood up, his upper body slowly leaning forward, bringing him psychologically closer to Yeon-Young.
“You’re beautiful.”Those were the first words out of Ryu Won’s mouth.
* * *
Yeon-young looked at her and Ryu Won’s matching outfits. Instead of the formal black that came with a suit, he wore a dusky pink.
The buttons buttoned up to his neck made him look neat rather than stuffy.
He glowed as if in the sun, even though the dullness of the color could have made his face look dead.
Ryu Won rose from his seat and took a step closer to Yeon-young.
His walk was like that of a well-mannered gentleman or a wild animal in the field.
“I never thought I’d be so happy.”He reached out and brushed a stray strand of hair from her shoulder.
The feel of his hand on her shoulder tickled her back, but she shrugged it off.
Unlike the back, which was slightly plunging, the front had a generous amount of fabric that hid her breastbone.
The line from the shoulders to the sleeves was sheer, accentuating Yeon-young’s straight shoulders.
With a single cinch at the waist and a fan-shaped opening, the dress was truly custom-made for Yeon-young.
“Ms. Yeon-young, I think we can get married like this.” “You’re kidding.” “Our honeymoon should be by the sea, you love the water.”Soon they’d even start planning for children.
Yeon-young frowned and looked out the window.
The once black sky was slowly fading to a burnt color.
Night is falling and morning is coming. It was almost time for the party.
“I wish I could be buried in peace.” “Well, I don’t think that’s possible.”He stroked Yeon-young’s smooth back with a warm hand.
Then he extended his hand to her politely and smiled.
“The sun will be up soon, so let’s get to the square before it’s too late.”The closer they got to the square with the clock tower, the more the streets bustled with spirits.
Contrary to Yeon-young’s fears, the spirits gathered in the square were all dressed in colorful and unique outfits.
Many, like her, were dressed in party clothes, but there were also quite a few spirits dressed in traditional or professional clothes.
Therefore, her dress was not enough to attract the spirits’ attention.
However, Han Ryu Won’s appearance attracted the spirits’ attention.
Most of the spirits looked at her and asked,
“Why are you here?”
“I have never seen Han Ryu Won in real life.” “Isn’t this the first time Ryu Won has come to a party?” “This is the first time I’m here since I died. Who is the ghost next to you?” “She is the youngest member of the special team.”She could hear the ghosts talking softly to each other. Just then, a cheerful voice greeted Yeon-young.
She turned to follow the voice and saw Daeheon standing there.
He was dressed in the same white coat she’d seen in the center’s emergency room.
“Ms. Yeon-young, how are you? You look so beautiful today.” “Thank you. Why is Mr. Daeheon here?” “I came to get something to eat. Ms. Yeon-young, is your work done?” “It’s my job to be here. They said all the special teams have to be here.” “What? Why?”Daeheon rubbed his neck in confusion. At his unexpected reaction, Yeon-young blinked and turned to face him.
“I just said that all the special teams will be there…” “Could it be that Lee Daeheon misunderstood something?”Ryu Won, who had overheard the conversation, casually stepped between them.
He looked at Daeheon and continued.
“A spirit who isn’t even a member of the special team can’t possibly know the details, right, Mr. Daeheon?” “Uh… Yes! Now that I think about it, I think I heard Jaeho worry about the party as well.” “Aren’t you busy?”She’d have to be a fool not to read the awkward situation.
Daeheon continued to scratch his neck. He scratched his neck so often that a red patch of raw skin appeared above the black spots.
“Mr. Daeheon, is this okay?” “Oh, this?”He pressed his palm to his neck, trying to make the scar invisible.
He nodded with a grimace.
“It’s uncomfortable, but it’s okay, it’s not like it’s going to get better anyway.” “Ouch.” “It’s a glory wound.”Daeheon shrugged.
The longer he talked to Yeon-young, the darker Ryu Won’s mood became.
“I’d better go.”Sensing the subdued mood, Daeheon bowed and quickly left the room.
Yeon-young narrowed her eyes and began to question Ryu Won.
“You lied to me.” “You just take the word of an emergency team spirit?”Of course, he avoided answering. Ryu Won had been smiling ever since they went to the clothing store.
Because of his smile, he could feel the ghosts around him slowly approaching with curious expressions.
“It seems like more and more ghosts are coming this way.” “Stay back until it calms down, we still have a long way to go.”Ryu Won must have felt it too, because he led Yeon-young away from the crowd.
He took Yeon-young’s hand and led her away from the square and into the alleys. It was no big deal to be held by the hand now.
Surely, the stares were less intense in the alleys than in the center of the square.
Above the clock tower, the sky was getting pinker and pinker.
“The sun is rising.”She heard his soothing voice. The spirits went wild at the sight of the rising sun, and the square echoed with upbeat jazz music.
The spirits with partners began to dance in unison. The spirits who came alone found a partner to dance with, or simply enjoyed the freedom of being alone.
The scene was so freeing and peaceful that Yeon-young couldn’t help but stare.
“Do you think we should join in?” “…….”Yeon-young looked at his outstretched hand. Normally, she would have rejected it, but now she felt the urge to take his warm, big hand.
Carefully, she raised her hand. Ryu Won gently grabbed her shoulder and danced her to the center of the square.
Yeon-young followed Ryu Won step by step, moving her body on a hunch.
She had never learned or danced a dance like this in her life, but it came naturally to her.
She smiled broadly in the warm Tanato sunshine. Seeing that smile, Ryu Won’s hand tightened slightly.
At that moment, a female voice reached her ears.
“I like this view of Tanato best.”The silhouette of a woman appeared in front of her.
