Chapter 13: Money Money Money
Scholarship, it's a word only used when a student gets the privilege of not only attending a specific school but also receiving money stipends and other priveleges.
For Belladona Academy, as long as your background calls for a need of money. They'll provide you with a fat some, and even more if you're a former Runner like me.
Maybe the original Kaizen is already missing the Runner life, it's actually a bit free at times and also a hard knock life having to be a on the run and not having a home to stay at.
But I have to shrug again, not everyone has the opportunity enter a city, much less have a way to survive in it.
On must remember, for a city to thrive, it must have a powerhouse that can not only push back villain district bosses out of the city but is also strong enough that villain organization won't target them...
I pocket my hands as I thought of another possibility, it's that villain organization have taken down a city but replaced it with a puppet hero.
Anyway to review the past few days, it's been chill and cool, just like where I'm at— on top of a 10-story tall building.
These past two days, I've been doing a lot of things at school. Among them were familiarizing myself with the Student Council and the Literature & Arts Club.
Yes, alongside the Student Council, I decided to crash at the Book Club only to realize it's actually named the Literature & Arts Club.
I took that club not because of some storyline but because I simply love reading, and art is a hobby that I do.
My real intention was actually for Wincy to meet Little Hope... jibbersticks, whats her name again?
I can't believe I still have memory issues with names, this one time I was consolidating a friendship with the boys, Griff, Keene, and Heinz, and I apparently mixed their names up.
It's such a hassle. Thankfully I still remember the first name I got from Wincy, Wincy Willdover.
Oh and Mr. Ali Aladdin and Ms. Shadnia— whose name, safe to say, wasn't forgotten because of her ability but because I'm some dum dum with a lack memory when it comes to names.
It's unfortunate that I didn't get any reward from her, unlike Mr. Ali and the trio. From what I could surmise, she probably died in an ambush in the Great Filter.
I'm kind of embarrassed to say this but a character like her wouldn't have been forgotten in the book unless they died. Anyway, it's an objective judgement about cliche tropes.
Good news though is that I got great rewards, 4 spins from people and 2 from the dailies. Before tommorow's little assessment, I'll be having at least 7 new abilities and maybe more if I can get a shot at interacting with the main two in my quest, Dystopia and Little Hope.
I've been holding back these two days, seeing how Wincy is with her new friend that I have nothing to do with. I was checking their Music Club for today after classes and she introduced me to Sarah.
It's a bit of a weird feeling when Wincy talked about how Sarah and I were both Runner, she doesn't know that both of us can't actually count as having experienced the Runner life as one is a possessor and the other has certain connection with the number 1 hero.
I could only laugh inwardly when Sarah sympathized with me. While I knew she's trying to fit in with her identity but being seeing how things are in actuality gives me some amusement.
I'm not sure why I couldn't befriend her though, my quest didn't activate in a finish but I very much enjoyed the Music Club, it's a close second to Literature & Arts which I love the most.
Enjoying the night breeze, I thought back to what happened and what could have gone wrong.
...
I was introduced by Wincy, and being proactive as I am, jumped on her at a moments notice and asking questions.
Soon enough, Wincy acting as an intermediary, I was able to introduce a lot of good qualities about myself and I was able to know Sarah better than we would meeting as complete strangers.
Since we were in the Music Room anyway, we had a try at the instruments and I got to learn of Wincy's interest in the electric guitar and Sarah's love for classical music.
Turns out these two with differing musical tastes got along so well. I just had to tell them,
I think Sarah replied with something really wholesome along the lines of, I think we're more connected in our passion than just the genres alone, or something.
Anyway Wincy was also positive on that note, I too had to agree, but maybe it's just cause I love almost any genre of music, well except for extremely loud music like rock. Maybe I'd consider breakcore if it tones down a bit, and those obscure crazy music genres like William Would and Citrus Daemon have their own quirks too, I'll just stick with only a certain kind of chaos in music.
It was hard for me to describe but when I expressed my preference fully in front of the two, they said they could relate somewhat, huh, who knew?
The feeling that I get when remembering how I got along with my friends, it's great. It makes you excited to see what else you can do with them.
...
Remember their expression, I thought about the chances of them faking their expression. They weren't like me, at least I never read of anything of that sort in the novel, and personal experience is better than whatever I could read in a book.
Sarah, modest and trying to be polite all the time but loves enjoying herself and gets close with people in the process... but how is it that she isn't 'friends' with me?
Wincy, who's chill and minds her own and does whatever but remain and maintains a good student character, she's someone who'd people love to be friends with but can't usually find ways of interacting with because she doesn't approach first unless of something of interest.
I still have to thank my stars she got curious of my kind of delinquent nature... speaking about that, maybe she's a rebellious girl inside? There's that vibe around her...
Anyway, that's for another time.
...
Certain lines in my head popped out, 'Gets close with people a lot' doesn't mean 'A lot of friends'.
Alright, I have a theory. If it's so, then she's such a silly girl. I feel silly already having called her silly. What's a guy like me gonna do about some girl's personal struggles? What am I gonna do? Take responsibility.
I look at the dark sky. The night lights though smaller than the lights of the night life seems more pleasing in the eye. The wind fluttered my jacket and I adjusted my night sportswear, oh how I love white and red, I think they're now my new favorite because of my hair and eye color.
The smell of the air is fresh and cool as ever. You can't smell the night but it's feels exhilarating as that cold oxygen flows through your nostrils. Maybe to some it's relaxing but today, where I got my monthly stipend from Belladona Academia?
Hell yeah, I'm too energetic!
Money!
Plus, I also hit the jackpot!
I backflipped from my height and into the air I went. Spreading wings from my back.
[ You have drawn 'Zanka no Tachi, Higashi: Kyokujitsujin' from 'Bleach' ]
[ You have drawn 'Reflect (Tomura)' from 'My Hero Academia' ]
[ You have drawn 'Quick Strike' from 'unOrdinary' ]
[ You have drawn 'Dragon Physiology' from 'High School DxD']
[ You have drawn 'Cow' from 'My Hero Academia' ]
[ You have drawn 'Transform' from 'My Hero Academia' ]
Yes, it's incredible!
I got a Cow Quirk!
Ehehe, I'm kidding. Anyway, I got some significant powers, namely Kyokujitsujin, Dragon Physiology, and Transform.
To get things out of the way, Cow allows me to transform to have the features and strength of a cow. Well, since I'm a male let's call it Bull.
Quick Strike allows me to move quickly and even abruptly when I strike anywhere using anything I have. While it's weak on it's own, it's enhancement in assistance to all my abilities is actually a high boon.
Reflect, specifically the quirk from Tomura, allows to reflect any energy damage taken. It can also be held, but it seems it can't hold energy for long. The condition is that it's reflected power has to be sustained by the body.
Transform is cool ability that allows me to transform into someone under the condition of consuming that person's blood. Yes, the Himiko Toga special! Unfortunately, I don't have her awakened quirk but it's base form.
Well, I could also try awakening it myself but I'm not sure how it works now that it's in this world.
Abilities work differently here after all, they're a bit more conceptual, and the abilities I receive have different changes. Body Infiltration is the biggest example, bypassing the need of a doll.
I have certain theories about that but I just need to learn more about that in class. Unfortunately, we're stuck in the history of abilities rather than their classifications.
I have to say, history is corny with Golden Buddha, Atlantic Lapu, Rainbow Leprechaun, Lady of the Lake, and other various figures, once in Earth's history, are now figures as strong as planets sprinkled among the stars.
They haven't gotten to the history of villains yet. I'm already afraid if there's a certain painter out there that would paint the stars black and red...
On my back is the use of Dragon Physiology. One flap and I travel several meters in a second. I can't believe I got another passive ability and it's OP too!
The ability includes superhuman physical characteristics, longevity, flight, transformation into a dragon and enlarging, breath attack, outrage, and dragon summoning and commandeering.
The last part was unfortunate when it needed me alongside 2 other dragons to summon another dragon. If there was a dragon nearby, I could try summoning them.
It was called Dragon Gate in DxD. Honestly, that universe is too powerful, I'm surprised I even got the ability when its part of the 'Random Abilities' downloaded in the Gacha repository.
Tonight I am experimenting with the Dragon Physiology and discovered that it works similarly like Indifference.
Indifference's passive allows me to turn my body into Black Shadow Stone which is merges with my cells. Dragon Physiology completely changes my genetic makeup to become a dragon, so I can even have superhuman strength even in a human form. Just to review, Poison Gas also generates passively and all three of these abilities don't need to cost energy.
Their active states do though such as Indifference needing energy to create more Black Shadow Stone, Dragon Physiology needs energy to come out of a dragon's base form. Apparently, I could be considered a Low-level Dragon! That's like an dinosaur-looking Earth Dragon in dxd!
If I wanted more than a slow buildup of fire breath, I can energy to change the state into ice or lightning. Maybe more if I can use larger amounts of energy, but I'm not sure.
Weirdly enough, transforming back and forth from becoming a dragon drains energy but staying in one state or another doesn't consume anything.
For Poison Gas, it's more straightforward generating in faster and more potent amount, I'm still not sure about whether I can vary the poison so It'll take some time to practice when I'm being overwhelmed with so many abilities.
Active and Passive, those are the only classification I know of the moment. There are more, I'm sure of it but I'm not sure about their official terms in this world, neither can I bet that their classification would be like in My Hero Academia, such as Emitter, Mutant, etc.
Lastly, there is Kyokujitsujin which is actually one of the four special moves in a certain old man's Bankai. This technique compresses a combustion of flames in his sword and if that sword were to touch anything in it's path, would explode and tear apart anything ahead.
The cut must make contact however.
For me, applying that same compressed combustion is a matter of where I store it, which is amazing!
I flew over the building before finding myself above the villain zone.
System, please tell me you've got a status window.
[Nuh uh.]
What do you mean nuh uh?
[You already have the abilities ingrained within you, host. The fact that I'm here is just to tell you of the changes of your luck and fate while also telling clarifying anything about your abilities]
Oh, so I am an idiot, I didn't think to ask you what specific reason my abilities changed. It adapts to this world's power system, but what exactly is this world's rules?
[To clarify host, your specific ability, Body Infiltration, violates this certain clause in this universe's Power System:
Any and all abilities will be subject to restrictions, conditions, energy expenditure, and conditional limits. Any and all abilities will not apply any recoil, consequences, or curses back to their user.]
Pausing, I thought about how every ability I have right now needed some condition or underlying logic to function. Muda needed my skin to shed, Zangerim needs a circular slash, Indifference, Dragon Physiology, and Cow needs my cells, Poison Gas needs my internal system to generate, Body Infiltration needs water to be present, Kyokujistujin needs to store itself internally in something, Quick Strike needs a medium, Transform needs blood, and Reflect needs me to endure the brunt of energy based attacks.
I thought I could escape the bad effects of Poison Gas but apparently it won't affect me... things are coming to make more sense.
What kind of Author is this? No consequences to powers and overpowered abilities lead to... to THIS!
My eyes scanned the worn and torn buildings, some villains live among the forgotten street and underground cement, living day to day in filth. Some of them deserve it, some of them don't.
Maybe even refugees would be mixed in but no one cared to differentiate the labels, just like how us Runners were scorned just as much as the Revengers.
Nah I'm being a hypocrite here, I never experienced the Runner life. Flying through another district. I saw a sight of a group of villains hanging outside a bar, smoking.
A quick lookup in image searching and I find their criminal record. I'm not on some hero duty nor a judge but it seems they're all psychopaths, I'll have to verify it myself.
I don't trust the government here, and it took a lot of out of me to trust mine back on Earth, here it's possible to be a stereotypical puppet organization.
Hmm, this time I shouldn't provoke them like last time. That's kind of unjustifiable if I provoke them to attack first.
My face turns to black metal as my wings toon on the same color.
Indifference + Dragon Physiology
I'm not a drinker, never was, but today I'm ironically going to a place you'd find tons of alcohol.
Entering, there was a silent but heavy atmosphere. A lot of people her were looking at me like I was a zoo animal, but it's expected when you see someone whose not a regular.
Some dudes, one with hightech goggles and another with a steampunk version of the same kind, scrutinized me. On another table were men who were one chugging down huge amount of a certain drink, smells like ale. They looked like a biker gang.
The bartender is an anthropomorphic rabbit, playing with a coin as tablecloths levitated and wiped the glasses around him. The atmosphere was quite lovely if not for the intense stares.
"Oi, that's rude."
"You don't say? I was just curious.", I held back a look that might say that he was dumb.
While I said I wouldn't be provoking anyone... I just had to search up everyone in front of their faces. Making a few of them look at me like they saw dog poop on the road.
I make my way to the rabbit guy and sat down, "I'm looking to clean some dregs off the grid. Just show me their colors and out of you... fluffy? tail?", I make a quick glace behind him but can't see anything so I make my way back to his red rabbit eyes.
"Oh? And how much are you willing to pay?"
"I'm cleaning filth, shouldn't I be compensated?", I rub my hands like a filthy merchant
"Sir, you've come to me for a transaction, also, those 'filth' you speak of fill our establishment's pockets.", He waves his hand dismissively
"Oh don't think I don't know where your money comes from, I'll trade you this information then... the name of Dystopia."
The rabbit man's ears twitch. And in an instant, as if strings were cut loose. Everyone else other than the rabbit man and I fell to the ground lifelessly.
"Well, well, well? It seems you're daring?", His eyes of red stare at me, they looked like blood, and some of my fleeting thoughts likened it to stolen rubies from the museum.
"I wouldn't have come to Wonderland if I wasn't, wouldn't you say, Hatter?"
"Call me Hare. We have a lot to talk about.", Says Mad Hatter, one among proxies in the Wonderland organization, the complete nemesis of Insanitas Brigade.
Guess who willingly placed themselves in a life and death situation? This guy that is, that's me, what an idiot.
