Chapter 199: Luminous Valentine’s Trial – The Fall of Ruberios
Luminous Valentine stood atop the highest tower of her castle, her gaze fixed on the city below.
Or what was left of it.
Ruberios was in ruins.
The grand cathedral, once standing tall and magnificent, was nothing but a shattered husk, its holy spires collapsed into rubble. The once-thriving streets, always filled with devoted followers, were now bathed in fire and blood. The scent of death and decay hung in the air, suffocating, inescapable.
The very foundation of her kingdom—her people, her faith, her rule—had crumbled.
And she had failed to stop it.
Luminous's fingers trembled as she took a step forward, struggling to process what she was seeing. This can't be real.
Yet, the agonized screams echoing from the ruins below told her otherwise.
Then she heard it—a familiar voice, weak and broken.
"Luminous…"
Her head snapped toward the source.
Across the ruined tower, barely holding onto life, Hinata lay on the ground—her body pierced by dozens of swords, her silver armor shattered, blood pooling beneath her.
The proud knight who had once stood before her, unwavering in her faith and strength, now lay defeated, broken, dying.
Luminous rushed forward, her heart hammering in her chest.
"Hinata!"
She knelt beside her, immediately trying to heal her wounds. Her hands glowed with divine energy, but—
Nothing happened.
The magic refused to work.
Hinata coughed weakly, her lips stained red.
"...It's over," she whispered, her voice barely audible.
Luminous shook her head violently.
"No. No, it's not over. You're not dying, do you hear me?!"
She poured more magic into her healing spell, but it was useless.
Hinata smiled softly—a smile filled with sorrow, yet acceptance.
"...We were betrayed."
Luminous froze.
"...What?"
Hinata's gaze slowly drifted toward the burning cathedral in the distance.
"They turned against us."
Luminous followed her gaze—and for the first time, she saw them.
The Holy Church of Ruberios—her church, her followers—marching through the ruins, slaughtering the last of the vampires, purging everything that remained.
At the head of the charge stood royal knights in golden armor—the very same knights she had personally blessed and raised, the ones who had sworn their loyalty to her.
And at their lead—Gunther.
Luminous's most devoted servant, the vampire who had followed her for centuries without question, now stood with a blade stained in vampire blood.
Luminous's heart stopped.
Gunther raised his sword, his expression devoid of emotion.
"The Goddess has fallen," he declared. "Ruberios must be cleansed."
Luminous couldn't breathe.
"Gunther…?" Her voice was small, barely above a whisper.
He turned to face her.
And in his eyes, there was no reverence. No love.
Only judgment.
"You have failed us."
Luminous staggered back, as if physically struck.
Gunther raised his sword.
And Hinata reached for Luminous's hand—her grip weak, trembling.
"Luminous…" Hinata's breath was shallow, her eyes clouded.
"...Run."
Then—
The blade fell.
Luminous saw Hinata's head roll onto the ground, her eyes frozen in that last moment of warning.
Something inside of her broke.
And then—rage.
A searing, uncontrollable rage unlike anything she had ever felt exploded within her.
The sky darkened instantly, the air turning freezing cold.
Her aura erupted, a massive pillar of pure destruction surging from her body, consuming everything around her in an instant.
A monstrous blizzard descended upon Ruberios.
The golden knights screamed as their bodies were frozen solid, their flesh turning to ice before shattering into nothingness.
The flames that had consumed the city were extinguished in an instant, replaced by a storm of death and vengeance.
Gunther tried to resist, but Luminous raised a single hand—and he was impaled by countless spears of blood-ice, his body ripped apart.
The church, the city, the people who had betrayed her—she wiped them out without hesitation.
And in mere moments—Ruberios was gone.
The storm faded.
And Luminous stood alone, surrounded by a world of frozen corpses and ruins.
She had nothing left.
Her people, her faith, her kingdom—all gone.
And she had been the one to end it.
She stared at the desolate wasteland before her, her breath coming in slow, trembling gasps.
For the first time in centuries—she felt lost.
Was this really what was meant to happen?
Was this the fate of Ruberios?
She had given everything to her people. Protected them, guided them.
Would they really betray her?
She clenched her fists, her sharp nails digging into her palms.
"...No," she whispered.
She forced herself to think. To remember.
This wasn't real.
It couldn't be.
Luminous closed her eyes.
She focused—on what she knew, on what was real.
Hinata would never fall so easily.
Gunther would never betray her.
Her faith was stronger than this.
Slowly, she exhaled.
"...I see. This is my trial."
The world around her shook.
The frozen corpses began to flicker, the ruined city warped and twisted.
She had seen through the illusion.
And just like that—it shattered.
Luminous opened her eyes.
She was back in the vast, white void.
Her breathing was slow, steady. Her body still trembled, but she quickly steadied herself, masking her emotions beneath her usual cold, regal expression.
The twelve members of the Grand Order stood before her, their gazes unreadable.
Then, Aurelia, the Arbiter of Fate, finally spoke.
"You have passed."
Luminous narrowed her eyes slightly.
"...That was cruel," she said, her voice calm, yet sharp.
Aurelia merely tilted her head.
"A trial is meant to test the core of your existence. You feared betrayal, you feared failure. You feared that your people would turn against you, that your kingdom would crumble beneath your rule."
Luminous remained silent.
"You could have lost yourself in that illusion. Given in to despair, to rage. But instead, you overcame it."
Aurelia stepped forward slightly, her silver eyes gleaming.
"And so, you have proven yourself worthy."
Luminous exhaled softly.
The trial was over.
And she had survived.
