Chapter 384 Watson Detective's Investigation
Aiwass didn't leave the Hall of Silver and Tin in the middle of the night; instead, he stayed over.
Long ago, Queen Isabel had prepared a room for Aiwass. And the items that Aiwass had burned while reading the "Morning Crow Scripture" had all been replaced.
After all, tonight there would certainly be many people coming to mourn at the Gryphon Bridge. Some from the Round Table Hall would surely be there to block him.
Aiwass didn't want to face those outside and figured it was wise to avoid trouble for himself.
The next day, the national morning papers published the news of Her Majesty the Queen's death.
There were over three hundred named newspapers in Avalon. Among them were some official ones and some not so official. But no matter their usual style of reporting, today they all had to faithfully report the news of Queen Sofia's passing and Queen Isabel's accession to the throne.
Among these similar announcements, some newspapers included the demonic painting drawn by Master Yanis.
Even though in Avalon, only the "Glass Staircase Daily" could carry magical paintings, Master Yanis's painting skills were more than sufficient to serve as photographs. Hence, these magical paintings were also transcribed into negatives by special personnel and distributed to all major newspapers on Glass Island.
As for remote newspapers, the news would be delayed by a couple of days, or they'd simply wait for the national funeral held a week later to publish it all at once.
At this moment, on a street near Garden City in the Metropolitan District, a young man in a yellow trench coat and a brown beret is seriously looking at newspapers spread across his desk in his own "Watson Detective Agency" – some of these are old issues, and of course, this includes today's "Glass Staircase Daily" that he had purchased at a high price.
Andre Watson, biting a pen, gazed at the newspapers unfolded before him, deep in thought, his pupils shimmering with azure radiance.
He was a detective.
Of course, certainly not as famous as Sherlock. But still, he was outstanding.
The Metropolitan District was the most bustling place on Glass Island and also had the highest population. Here was not as dangerous as Lohar District, nor was it like the Red-White Queen District where almost every case might involve some important figure.
This place was simply busy – busy due to the sheer number of people.
And for this reason, Mr. Watson was often asked to help with some difficult cases by the local Supervisory Bureau. As a Mage of the Path of Wisdom, his brain was much more useful than those of the Legal Mages and Inspectors.
After all, there was only one Sherlock. But for the major cases on Glass Island, he alone couldn't handle them all.
But at the same time, Andre Watson had another identity… or rather, two additional identities.
In fact, he was a spy from Star Antimony, born in the Star Antimony's Army First Special Operations Force.
This force had another name, "The Chamber," mainly tasked with the collection and processing of intelligence.
It was so named because before becoming codified and regularized, it originated as an anonymous chamber where early "The Twelve Keys" members exchanged intelligence and conspired. Now it had become Star Antimony's spy and counter-spy department.
But beyond that, Andre had yet another identity.

He was the child of a high-ranking Mage and Son of the Moon from the Narcissus Duchy.
Even though these high-ranking Mages of the Narcissus Duchy professed their loyalty to the King of Star Antimony, there were undoubtedly seeds of restorationism among them. And he was one of them.
From this perspective, Andre could be seen as a double agent – he served the people of Star Antimony on one hand, concealed within the heart of Avalon, while on the other, he served the people of Narcissus, stealing intelligence from Star Antimony to deliver to the Mage Tower.
—The people of Star Antimony might well be aware of his treacherous intentions. Or rather, it would be surprising if those Mages genuinely submitted to Star Antimony without any resistance. But their attitude mattered little in the face of larger circumstances. As long as Star Antimony continues to exist peacefully, such thoughts would naturally lose their foundation over a few generations.
Perhaps for this reason, he was dispatched to Glass Island.
A region far from Star Antimony and the Narcissus Duchy, filled with Legal Mages capable of detecting lies. As a member of "The Chamber," he actually knew no critical intelligence that could be traced back to headquarters – a distinctive secrecy style of "The Chamber." Everyone held fragmented secrets, which only revealed the truth once decrypted and pieced together.
Simply surviving in Avalon was difficult for him.
He could not conceal his Star Antimony origin, and someone appearing out of nowhere was more likely to expose themselves. And as the relations between Avalon and Star Antimony worsened over the years, the pressure on him grew increasingly heavy.
He had spent a long time and effort to gain the trust of the Supervisory Bureau. And these days, he began to feel the gaze of suspicion again. Even after the arrest of Trade Minister Drost, there had been an investigation into him by the Supervisory Court.
At that time, he thought he was about to be discovered.
Luckily, the spell his father had cast on him was reliable enough.
He had managed to infiltrate the "secret chamber," solely relying on the protection of his parents—he was also certain that he had not been discovered, otherwise he would have been executed or imprisoned by now.
When Andre heard the story of "Miss Crowley," he was quite moved.
Of course, he did not know the identity and mission of his colleague. This was to prevent anyone from betraying their comrades.
But that intelligence was just too authentic.
Although he had spent many years in Avalon and could no longer recall whether the Crowley family had such a third daughter, the hazy memories seemed to whisper to him, "It appears there was."
And he felt a great deal of sympathy and resonance with "Miss Crowley."
—In a sense, he and Miss Crowley were trapped in a similar predicament.
He was now one of the most important spies for Star Antimony, tasked with gathering crucial information. Yet, at the same time, as a Narcissus native, he was pondering how to betray Star Antimony; Miss Crowley, a pureblood of Star Antimony, also desired to betray her country because of that forbidden love.
As a member of the "secret chamber," he knew the kind of resistance and crisis Miss Crowley would encounter in her own country. Although Star Antimony would certainly exchange spies to get her back after her capture... her parents and her family would have to endure tremendous pressure because of this!
Even as the daughter of an Earl, she would have to pay a price.
Her family would soon pay the price, and she would have to repay it on behalf of her family.
It was because of their similar situations and the resonance he felt that Andre harbored animosity towards the male protagonist of the tale, "Aiwass Moriarty," while also being curious about his charm.
Driven by his curiosity, he began an investigation.
—And he discovered that Aiwass was a playboy!
In his high school days, he played the field every day, even inciting girls to quarrel and fight over him;
His girlfriends changed weekly, ranging from his thirty-something-year-old female teacher to the younger sisters of his classmates, all of whom displayed an uncommon warmth with him in public places;
Even the fighting girls eventually made up and became friends under his coaxing, joining forces to dispel rumors and alleviate the negative impact caused by the gossip—
After graduating from high school, his leg seemed to have been broken by the brother of one of his girlfriends, confining him to a wheelchair. Later, he was intimately involved with figures such as the student council president in university, his female head teacher, and even Queen Isabel.
"...such a fickle man is certainly no good match, Miss Crowley!"
As Andre was worrying about his colleague whom he had never met, he received news of the Queen's demise.
After reading his regular newspaper and seeing the photograph of Aiwass with Queen Isabel, he immediately went out to purchase the Glass Staircase Daily featuring a Demonic Painting! He then gathered all the newspapers and intelligence related to Aiwass for a combined analysis.
Andre scrutinized the Demonic Painting hundreds of times and deduced a very crucial piece of intelligence—
When Aiwass had his hand on Isabel's shoulder, the young Queen showed no sign of resistance or reluctance. When she turned her head to look up at Aiwass, there was clear delight in her eyes.
And after Aiwass removed his hand, Queen Isabel even stepped aside half a step.
To the average person, this might seem like an attempt to maintain distance. But Andre, observing Isabel's shoulders and arms, confirmed that her arm moved slightly backward when Aiwass lowered his hand.
What does that indicate?
It indicates that she actively touched Aiwass's hand!
And after that, Aiwass's hands were placed behind him—this might signify a gesture of "avoidance."
The half-step aside by Isabel allowed Aiwass to be less conspicuous behind her.
It instead resembled two people standing shoulder to shoulder. Rather than sovereign and subject, more like a photograph of a husband and wife.
Taking into account his previous analysis of Isabel's desire to attack, Andre boldly concluded:
Isabel's decision to take a photograph with only Aiwass by her side during the height of the rumors between him and Aleister was to wrestle Aiwass away from Miss Crowley!
