Chapter 28: Chapter 28 - Once? The Law is Ruthless, Not Even Once!

As for the information part, Keisuke Kumiko only read a few lines before stopping.

"Mr. Terabayashi, this is the diary you wrote on your blog. It's clear that your attitude toward our client is not as harmonious as we imagined!"

Terabayashi Shoji's face turned red, and it took him a long time to utter a word.

"You... you casually browsed my blog! This is an invasion of my privacy!"

"Invasion of privacy? Mr. Terabayashi, if I remember correctly, your blog space has no restricted access settings. It's open to the public, isn't it?"

Keisuke Kumiko looked at him with a smile.

"Excuse me, if I go into a public restroom and see someone defecating, does that count as invading their privacy?"

"You!"

Silin Shenger's face turned red and pale.

This person had such a sharp tongue that he even compared his blog space to a public restroom!

"I just vent there from time to time..."

His voice grew weaker.

He wanted to find reasons to refute it, but he couldn't say anything because the other party's method of collecting evidence wasn't illegal.

Kumiko turned to the judge, still smiling.

"It's evident that this officer has been holding a grudge against our client for a long time. He took advantage of the interrogation to abuse his power and enforce the law with violence. These media reports and these photos are proof!"

Keisuke Kumiko spread out a large stack of newspaper clippings and showed them to everyone present.

The judge and jury nodded slightly.

Indeed, even before the case went to trial, the prosecution had already lost credibility in their eyes.

As the saying goes, there's no smoke without fire.

What is the media? The media leads people by the nose.

Humans are subjective and emotional; they can be easily swayed by exaggerated narratives.

At that moment, the prosecutor sensed that something was off and immediately stood up.

"Objection!"

The judge looked at him and said, "Then please, prosecutor, state your argument."

"This is Mr. Terabayashi's attendance record from last year until now, as well as his performance evaluations. Additionally, here are records of cases he has handled."

The prosecutor took out a stack of documents and presented them to everyone.

"It's evident that this officer has always been diligent, never arriving late or leaving early. He has never failed an evaluation! Furthermore, he has always been serious and responsible when apprehending criminals! One has to wonder how such an exemplary officer could commit the illegal acts claimed by the defendant's attorney!"

The judge and jury confirmed the information provided by the prosecutor.

It was exactly as he had said.

This detective from the Chiba Prefectural Police was, at the very least, highly responsible in his duties and had been performing his job with dedication.

Keisuke Kumiko narrowed his eyes.

It seemed the other side had done some preparation as well.

But it was just a desperate struggle.

From the moment he saw Terabayashi Shoji, he knew that this man was introverted and not good at communication.

Dealing with this type of person was very easy.

Kumiko turned slightly and looked at Terabayashi Shoji with a smile.

"Since you deny using violent interrogation, can you look my client in the eyes and say seriously, 'I didn't do it'?"

Kumiko suddenly emphasized this part.

"Just touch the police manual in your arms, touch your badge, feel its warmth near your beating heart, and say these words!"

Keisuke Kumiko's voice was powerful and resonated through the courtroom.

Terabayashi Shoji completely froze, trembling as he lifted his head and looked into Nakamichi Kazushi's eyes.

Nakamichi Kazushi stared back in silence.

"I... I didn't... I didn't do it..."

Terabayashi Shoji's voice trembled with each word.

But when he reached the last word, he couldn't hold on any longer.

With a dull thud, the overweight officer's knees gave out, and he collapsed.

"Zhongdao kept treating me like this all the time! I thought I had already broken the law, so I might as well... I swear, I only did it this one time! In my more than ten years as a police officer, this was the only time! Wuuuu!" (Tn:Does anyone know what Zhondao is?)

He burst into tears, completely breaking down.

At that moment, a grown man sobbed in the courtroom like a lost child.

However, it seemed Keisuke Kumiko wasn't planning to let him go just yet.

"Once? How many times do you want? The law is ruthless—not even once! When you did these things, did you ever think about the police badge on your chest? Did you ever think about the oaths you swore in the police manual?"

"Do you realize? Because of this one time, other officers have also joined the ranks of violent interrogations! Look at the injuries on our client's body—all of them were inflicted by you! In the name of so-called justice, you police officers!"

"Justice is not a tool for vigilante punishment, nor is it an excuse to stand on a moral high ground!"

The courtroom fell into silence, so quiet that one could hear a pin drop.

Only the sound of Terabayashi Shoji's regretful sobs echoed through the empty hall.

...

Needless to say, the outcome of the subsequent ruling was clear.

The judge and jury didn't hesitate or deliberate at all. The gavel came down, and Keisuke won the case.

There was no suspense—it was a complete and overwhelming victory.

"You really don't show any mercy."

Ai looked at Terabayashi Shoji, who left the courtroom with a devastated expression.

After this incident, this officer could no longer work in the field. His only options were to be dismissed or to resign.

"Is this really okay? At least, this officer was responsible in his daily work and only made this one mistake."

Kumiko raised an eyebrow. "What, are you being too compassionate again? Didn't you hear what I said in court?"

Little Ai rolled her eyes. "Oh, those grand speeches? I thought you made them up. They're all lies, aren't they?"

Kumiko looked at her. "Do you think they were lies?"

"What else? Are you going to tell me you were being truthful?"

Little Ai tilted her head and asked in return.

Keisuke Kumiko shrugged and said nothing.

"Still, whether it was true or false, we achieved our goal anyway."

Little Ai said casually, "In this world, there are things that are true and things that are false. The real can become false, and the false can become real, but the outcome remains unchanged."

"Alright, you're just a kid, so don't go around saying such philosophical things all the time."

Keisuke Kumiko patted her head, then walked out of the courtroom.

"Come with me."

"Huh? Where to?"

"What else? To see our client."

"Why? Shouldn't we be preparing for the second trial now?"

"Didn't you notice? Something was off with him just now."

Keisuke Kumiko sighed, muttering to himself.

"Suspects, could you stop overthinking things and giving me so much trouble?"
