Witchy Woes

Chapter 28: Chapter 28

"Of all the things you've done, this is the most normal and yet somehow, the most confusing." Pearl said as we stood in the living room of the Gibbons house. I don't think I can call it the Gibbons home anymore with all that's happened so far.

"And why is that?" I ask as I crouched in front of the table that held up a fish tank.

"I've heard of witches using the blood of snakes and other animals for spells and rituals, but an electric eel?" She asked in disbelief as I focused on the creature in the tank.

I let out a small chuckle before standing to face her. "You're not wrong but this is more for my curiosity than for a spell."

She looks at me in disbelief, crossing her arms. "You had me find and buy an electric eel because you were curious…?" She said, deliberately slowly.

At my nod, she let out an exasperated sigh, rubbing her temple. She'd gotten quite comfortable around me recently, maybe that's because I haven't threatened her or her daughter's life recently. I'm the best boss ever.

"If it makes you feel any better, at least you didn't have to pay for it." I snarked as I pressed my hand against the tank.

"It doesn't."

Scanning the tank and most importantly, the eel inside it, I received the feedback with a contemplating look. I'll admit, I've always been curious about some particular animals, even more so now that I have magic.

An electric eel is basically a fish with superpowers. Granted, it's not very strong but it is amazing. In tandem with my delving more into biomancy, I've become more intrigued by the human body and its potential.

Quirks and metahumans exist in other universes(I assume those universes exist since this one does) and those are mostly biological. With the ability to manipulate the human body as I can, shouldn't I be able to create quirks and metahumans?

That was the basis of this entire thing. Plus it's a fall back in the event that I lose access to my magic for any reason. I already made my body physically stronger than a five hundred year old vampire and that's without reinforcement. I'm also looking into cellular regeneration like Wolverine and Deadpool.

I'm close but it's a work in progress to push my body's regenerative ability to the highest level possible. What is a ripped out heart when I can regenerate from a puddle of blood?

It's ironic that witches are supposed to be servants of nature yet it was a witch who created werewolves and also a witch that created vampires. For all the spiel about protecting the balance, they've done a fine job at wrecking it. I'm just following their example.

Dozing through another history class, I can literally feel Alaric's eyes lingering on me throughout the lecture. If I didn't know any better I'd be concerned for my chastity.

It seems he and Stefan found nothing in New Orleans other than Marcel's playmates. I really should look into that but unfortunately magic can't save me from procrastination.

It looks like Damon is planning something yet again to 'catch me off guard'. You'd think that after over a hundred years of being alive he'd learn that there are always bigger fish. At this point I think I might actually be justified if I kill him. Hell, I was long since justified.

If I get bored enough I'll kill him. I'm still figuring out what to do with Ayana so there goes the thought of shoving him with her. I thought of using them as supernatural batteries. The question is; what do I want to use it to power?

The ringing of the bell shook me out of my thoughts as everyone shuffled out of the classroom, breaking into their cliques.

Bonnie slid up to me, standing in front of my desk. "You didn't pay attention to anything, did you?" She asked, a knowing smile on her face.

"I did. I mean I heard the bell ring." I refuted weakly.

"Uh-huh…" she muttered, not believing me in the slightest. "What were you thinking about this time?"

"I was thinking how cool it would be if Superman and Batman existed. I mean just think about it." I answered honestly, causing her to look even more disbelieving as I packed up my things.

"You're basically made of magic and you're fanboying over superheroes in comics?" She asked before pausing for a moment. "Somehow that makes sense."

"What can I say, I'm a nerd at heart." As we left the classroom, she filled me in on what I missed while I was daydreaming. Founder's day celebration was coming up, about that…

"That reminds me." I started, grabbing her attention. "How do you feel about long dresses?"

"What?" Followed her confused expression.

I handed her a letter which she received with even more confusion. "I signed you up for the Miss Mystic Falls Pageant."

"Why would you do that?"

"Because you need to relax and get your mind off things. A beauty pageant is just the thing you need." I explained, an unrepentant smile on my face.

"It's more complicated than a beauty pageant." She mumbled weakly.

"Really? I guess it would be unfair to the others to make it just about beauty. They need to have a chance after all." I said with a faux sigh. She couldn't stop the smile that broke out on her face.

"How did you even do this? They've already decided who's going to participate and the others applied a long time ago." She asked, out of curiosity.

"Let's just say I made a strongly worded argument with a little touch of hocus pocus. I'm sure Amber Bradley wouldn't mind waiting for the next one." I said as I brushed a strand of hair from her face.

I didn't miss the way she slightly leaned into my hand before catching herself nor did I miss the look on Caroline's face as she walked towards us.

"You're entering the Pageant?" She immediately asked in utter surprise.

"How did you…" Bonnie trailed off, looking at me in confusion. I simply lifted my hands in the air in surrender.

"My mom told me." Caroline said, clearing the confusion. Oh that's right, Mayor Lockwood and Sheriff Forbes work together…a little at least. "I thought you didn't like these things."

"I…uhhh changed my mind. I wanted to give it a shot." Bonnie said, quickly making up an excuse. "There's no problem, right?"

"Not at all. Actually, I think it'll be a good idea. Though, I'll have to find someone else to go dress shopping with since you and Elena are both competing." She said with playful frustration.

"Why don't you go with Matt?" I suggested, getting an actually frustrated groan from her.

"Matt has a thing with his mom and she's being annoying. Is it wrong that I don't like her?" She asked, getting a sympathetic rub on her shoulder from Bonnie. "I swear it's like she finds something new to hate me for everytime I see her."

She takes a deliberate breath to calm herself down. "I'm not going to let her ruin this for me so I'm just going to put it out of my mind and go about my day. So, who's going to be your partner?" She asked.

"Partner?" Bonnie's confusion for the day was quite fun to watch.

"Every participant needs someone to escort them, also for the dance." She went on to explain the specifics such as the fact that Bonnie needed a date while not so subtly looking at me.

At that moment Bonnie seemed to have an idea judging by the look in her eyes as she turned to me.

"I'm sure you won't mind being my date, would you?" She said, a knowing look on her face. "You know, taking responsibility and all that."

She whispered the last part but it brought a smirk to my lips.

"I'd love to." I responded, the interaction throwing Caroline for a loop for the moment. "I'm sure Caroline would love to run you through the basics."

"Of course! I have the perfect idea to get you up to speed." The blonde in question exclaimed in excitement, getting a grateful look from Bonnie.

"You've got that covered so I'll see you later." I said, leaning in and giving her a kiss on the cheek, causing her to freeze.

With a wave, I walked away, very well aware of the two pairs of eyes boring into my back as well as Caroline's quiet squeal of joy.
