Chapter 268: Chapter 266: A New Beginning
"I didn't expect there to be such a method." After Dormammu retreated, within a dimensional space, the Ancient One's soul was floating. After witnessing the scene, a wry smile appeared on the Ancient One's face. She hadn't considered this method before; if she had known, she wouldn't have had to battle Dormammu for nearly a thousand years. When it comes to using the Time Stone, the Ancient One was far more skilled than Daniel Davis. However, as an ancient being, her thoughts were somewhat constrained by conventional wisdom, which is understandable.
"Now I can finally leave in peace." The Ancient One said, taking out a vial of serum. With a flick of her hand, her figure instantly disappeared. If Daniel could see what the Ancient One was holding, he would recognize it as Pym Particles.
Although the method for creating Pym Particles was closely guarded by Dr. Hank Pym, it was all too easy for her to obtain it. The Ancient One wasn't a rigid person; the fact that she utilized the power of Dormammu's Dark Dimension demonstrates that.
Even Hank Pym could create Pym Particles, so it's no surprise that the Ancient One could as well. Just as Thanos could easily replicate Pym Particles, which he used to transport his fleet to the Avengers' base during the battle against them.
For someone like Hank Pym, an ordinary person, Pym Particles were mostly used to shrink household items and the Ant-Man suit. For scientists like Stark and Banner, they could be used to travel through time and retrieve the Infinity Stones from the past.
However, for sorcerers like the Ancient One and Daniel Davis, who use dimensional magic, they could traverse dimensional spaces.
With Dormammu no longer a threat, the Ancient One, who had always protected Earth, was finally free. From now on, it would be difficult to see her again. For the Ancient One, the most important task wasn't dimensional travel but rather reincarnation to obtain a new body.
Daniel, of course, had no idea what was going on with the Ancient One. At this moment, he was focused on restoring the three Sanctums. With the help of the Time Stone, the Sanctums were quickly restored. Of course, those who had died during the process did not come back to life.
No matter what the Ancient One's thoughts were, since she didn't care about the deaths of those people, Daniel certainly wouldn't bother to revive them. The reason was simple: he didn't need to. The Ancient One had already left behind a message that the power of time shouldn't be used recklessly.
Although the Ancient One's use of the Dark Dimension's power had been exposed, causing some to doubt the truth of her words, Wong still held great respect for her. Only Mordo remained unmoved; he had never wanted those who had died to be revived.
From the way Mordo looked at him, Daniel suspected that if Mordo thought he could beat him, he would try to kill both him and Wong.
"With such vast assets, it's hard to believe that the original Strange and Wong lived in such poverty." After restoring the Sanctums, Daniel officially took control of them. Not to mention the land the Sanctums occupied, nearly every item within them was a priceless antique.
"What a terrifying magical array. I can't imagine how the Ancient One set it up." The three Sanctums were established at key coordinates on Earth, drawing on dimensional magic to create powerful formations. Daniel, now within the Sanctums, could even take on Thor in a fight.
The array, which harnessed the infinite power of dimensional space, was something Daniel found worth studying. However, due to its complexity, he didn't have time to learn it now and would have to study it slowly in the future.
Unlike Stark, who purely relied on his armor to enhance his strength, Daniel, though he also had armor, sought to combine power within himself. He considered external tools like armor to be of little value to his own body.
Stark, with his armor, could fight Thanos, but without it, he was still just an ordinary man.
"The Time Stone is in hand; now, only three are left." The Time Stone was incredibly powerful, space as king, and time as ruler.
However, because it was so powerful, it wasn't very useful to Daniel at this stage unless he faced an enemy like Dormammu again. In a fight against Thanos, the Time Stone would be of little use. For one, the Infinity Stones could cancel each other out. Secondly, Thanos was not like Dormammu, who transcended time. Thanos had not transcended time.
In a battle with Thanos, even using the Time Stone wouldn't change the outcome. Besides, Daniel couldn't reverse time far enough to make a difference in such a battle.
For Daniel, the greatest value of the Time Stone at this stage was to study the time laws within it. Consider the Ancient One, who could stop nearly all of New York while only in soul form.
Frankly, the Infinity Stones were external tools for Daniel as well. Look at the true major players; none of them cared about the Infinity Stones. If any of them had been interested, these things wouldn't have been scattered throughout the universe. Of course, it was too early for Daniel to think about that, but it didn't stop him from imagining.
Another issue was that the Infinity Stones didn't hold the same power in other dimensions as they did in the Marvel Universe.
"I'll leave this place to you." Although the Sanctums were powerful, Daniel didn't want to stay there at this time. After roughly dealing with the aftermath of Dormammu's invasion, he left everything in Wong's care and instructed him to gather all the magical tools and books from the other Sanctums. At the same time, Daniel closed the main base of Kamar-Taj in Nepal, halting any further treatment for those who might come seeking it.
Wong had no objections. As a librarian, his passion was quietly studying magic. Daniel left Wong with plenty of money since, as the new Sorcerer Supreme, he couldn't let Wong live the same poor life as Strange had.
"What are you doing?" In a secluded corner near a basketball court in a New York neighborhood, Daniel suddenly appeared through a magic portal. Ahead of him, Mordo was gripping the neck of a black man, none other than the recently famous basketball star Jonathan Pangborn.
Jonathan Pangborn had been completely paralyzed but regained his mobility through magic at Kamar-Taj. After his recovery, he left Kamar-Taj and returned to society. Though he didn't learn the essence of Kamar-Taj's magic, the dimensional powers had greatly enhanced his physical abilities, allowing him to become a basketball star.
In the United States, basketball stars are highly revered. Given Jonathan Pangborn's physical abilities, it was only a matter of time before he played in the NBA.
But now he wouldn't have that chance. As Mordo absorbed the magical energy from his body, Pangborn's life force grew weaker and weaker. By the time Mordo tossed him aside, he was barely alive.
"You followed me." Mordo coldly glared at Daniel, gripping his magic staff, the Staff of the Living Tribunal.
Mordo carried several magical tools: the Staff of the Living Tribunal, the Sling Ring, and the Boots of Valtorr.
"I just wanted to see what you were up to. I didn't expect you to follow in Kaecilius's footsteps. The Ancient One would be very saddened to see you like this."
"Don't mention that fraud and hypocrite. She deceived me. I only regret not seeing through her sooner." Mordo shouted, brandishing the Staff of the Living Tribunal.
"That's how you see the Ancient One? That's a shame." Daniel's figure instantly appeared before him, moving so fast that Mordo had no time to defend himself.
With a swift strike, Daniel pierced Mordo's chest with a sword, and with his left hand, he twisted Mordo's left arm and fingers, removing the Sling Ring.
"You…" Mordo, feeling his magical power dissipate, stared at Daniel in shock.
"Why are you looking at me like that? You were right earlier; there are too many sorcerers in this world." Daniel said with a smile as he looked at Mordo's shocked expression.
Knowing Mordo was an enemy, Daniel had no intention of letting him go. Allowing him to live would only invite trouble later.
A darkened Kamar-Taj sorcerer could be extremely dangerous. Look at what Kaecilius did—he let Dormammu in. Who's to say Mordo wouldn't let some other powerful dimensional being in the future?
There are countless powerful beings in the dimensions. Take the Darkhold, for example; it contains many spells to summon powerful entities. While most people wouldn't be able to use it, Mordo could.
"The Ancient One took you in as an orphan, raised you, taught you magic, and you can't even think to repay her. Instead, you call her a hypocrite and a fraud. Did you really think you were some kind of saint?" Daniel said as he summoned a flame to burn Mordo to ashes.
Daniel didn't know how to deal with Mordo's twisted sense of justice, which he found deeply detestable.
Some people easily forgive enemies for any evil they commit, but if one of their own commits even a minor wrong, it's treated as an unforgivable sin.
If a villain does one good deed, they're considered reformed. But if a good person does one bad thing, they're labeled a hypocrite. This world is far too harsh on good people. Not to mention, the Ancient One hadn't done anything wrong; she had merely absorbed the Dark Dimension's power.
Of course, Mordo's twisted sense of justice was only part of the reason he turned dark. The bigger issue was likely that the title of Sor
cerer Supreme hadn't been passed on to him. From the jealousy hidden in his gaze, this was easy to discern.
Perhaps another reason Mordo resented the Ancient One was that she hadn't taught him how to absorb the Dark Dimension's power without being corrupted.
The Ancient One didn't choose Mordo as the Sorcerer Supreme because of his character. For a Sorcerer Supreme, neither extreme righteousness nor extreme darkness is appropriate; the middle path is the most suitable.
Daniel's actions exemplify this; while he sought power, he had his limits. Mordo, on the other hand, targeted an ordinary person as soon as he turned dark, breaking all moral boundaries.
"Sorry about this." After burning Mordo's body to ashes, Daniel cleaned up the remains, took the magical items from Mordo, and glanced at the lifeless body of Jonathan Pangborn before leaving through a magic portal.
Perhaps tomorrow's newspapers would report that the rising basketball star Jonathan Pangborn was murdered in an alley. If the case gained attention, it might cause a significant stir for a while.
The reason is simple: racial tensions. Many people were already unhappy with Jonathan Pangborn's rise.
Daniel, of course, wouldn't concern himself with such matters. At this moment, he was examining the magical items he had taken from Mordo. The Ancient One had been quite good to Mordo; while many had no magical items, Mordo had two.
The Staff of the Living Tribunal wasn't of much use to Daniel. If this were the comic book version of the Marvel Universe, the Staff would be a powerful weapon, but unfortunately, this wasn't the case here.
The Boots of Valtorr, however, were quite useful, as they could enhance jumping ability.
"Without the Ancient One around, I feel much more at ease." With this thought, Daniel transported himself to the world of giants, where he had stored the Space Stone and Mind Stone. Now, the Time Stone would join them.
"Sure enough, it's much weaker, though it's not unusable."
"Those two have reconciled? I guess this outcome isn't so bad." Daniel, who had initially been concerned about taking Strange's place as Sorcerer Supreme, was relieved to see that Strange had reconciled with his girlfriend after his hand was healed.
He then had Helen Herman waive Strange's medical bills.
"Should I go after the Celestial Dragons now? Maybe not. I should take advantage of being the Sorcerer Supreme and explore new worlds." With the Ancient One gone and her words echoing in his mind, Daniel felt he no longer needed to be so cautious about exploring dimensional spaces. The quantum realm wasn't likely to pose any significant danger.
He could always go after the Celestial Dragons later; there was no rush. The ones in a hurry were the World Government, the Navy, and Sengoku. After Daniel's recent trip to the pirate world, he had dropped another leaflet.
This leaflet advertised the reopening of the Number One Auction House on Sabaody Archipelago. This information, previously known only to a select few, was now openly exposed, causing Sengoku to spit blood once again. The nearly rebuilt Marine Headquarters was once again destroyed.
Taking advantage of this, the Revolutionary Army's activities had intensified. Compared to the original timeline, they were much stronger now. While Daniel hadn't directly assisted the Revolutionary Army, his provision of food, weapons, and leaflet content had prompted many neutral individuals to join their cause.
Perhaps influenced by Daniel's leaflets, the Revolutionary Army had recently ramped up its propaganda efforts, forcing the World Government and Navy to take action against them. Even the Admirals got involved, with not one but two of them engaging. However, despite this, they failed to gain much ground against Dragon.
Upon hearing this news, Daniel's first thought was that Admiral Kizaru had probably gone easy on them.
When facing Dragon, Kizaru was the only Admiral who had an advantage. Aokiji and Akainu didn't fare as well since Dragon could fly.
Dragon's ability to control wind and lightning gave him a massive advantage in a world surrounded by oceans. Without Aokiji's freezing powers, no amount of Marines would be able to stop him once he stirred up the sea.
"I wonder where this time will take me."
