Chapter 9: Chapter-9. (Little Angels Orphanage).
We were still confused about what just happened. I asked Lilly about that little girl and the blonde man who just came with her. "It was Josh, he is Parker's friend and Parker knows Carmila through Christina. I have heard many things about Josh. They say that he was everything but good, but when he met his late wife, he fell in love with her." It was a little shocking, as he did not seem like he was a bad guy but before I judged him, I needed to know the whole story. "After facing several problems, they got married and that little girl is not his biological child. They both wanted to adopt a child, but before they could do that she met with an accident." What the hell? How tragic can someone's story be? I glanced at Carmila who was walking towards her office. I did not want to interrupt them but I had a feeling that something bad was gonna happen. Even that little girl seemed somehow familiar to me. Why do I have a feeling that I have seen her somewhere? I walked into the pantry. Retriving my phone from my bag, I sent a few texts, when a loud bang echoed. Now, what happened? With this, I walked out of the pantry. Josh had that little girl with her as he disappeared from the bakery. Before I could call him out he was already gone. What should I do now? Should I follow him? I was still in the midst of a dilemma when Parker also came out of the office. This was it. I straight walked up to him, "We need to talk. Now." I said while grabbing his arm. His piercing gaze was already on me. It was evident he was angry and frustrated but I need to confirm some things with him. "Not here, let's talk in my car." He replied as he held my hand in his. It was a little weird as no man had physically contacted me. I seriously need to get these dirty thoughts out of my mind. I scolded myself. In a minute, we reached near his car. Of course, it has been the newest version of a Ferrari, that too in black. I internally rolled my eyes off at his car while he unlocked the car. We both got seated in his car. "What is it?" Straight to the point. Impressive. Shutting such weird thoughts, I asked, "Is that little girl's name Sophia?"
His brows arched as if it was not what he was expecting yet he replied, "Yeah, so what about it?" Before I could explain anything to him, I got a notification on my phone. "Excuse me." I retrieved my phone and unlocked it. Fuck yes, I was right about it. I called the number and in two rings the call was picked up, "Hello Mother, can you send me some pics of Sophia."
"But what happened? Is something wrong? God, can you explain what in the world you are trying to do?" Why do all mothers have to be so worried about little things? "Mumma, I will tell you later but please send her photos now. It's urgent." Mother's annoyed voice came from the other side, "Fine. God give me the patience to bear with you and your dramas." I could not help but smile at her statement, "Yeah, yeah. l love you too." I hung up the call when my eyes met with the man who was sitting beside me. His gaze intently watched my every action, "What?" I asked. He shook his head, "Nothing. You were saying something." I knew he was trying to change the subject but I let his weird action let go and glanced at my phone. I opened the chat. Pictures were sent. The picture consisted of me, my mother, and a little girl who was carried by my mother. She had the same pair of big brown eyes. Her curly hair was tied with a cute bow.
I flashed that picture in his direction, "Is it Sophia?" Parker scanned the photo and something flashed in his eyes. "She is Sophia, right?" Parker did not say anything but responded with a nod. Silence fell through for a few moments when Parker asked, suspicion evident in his voice, "Do you know Sophia?"
"Yeah, and I think, her parents are still alive." I finally revealed my suspicion. "What? Tell me in detail." I took a deep breath and started explaining, "It was a few years back, my mother worked for an orphanage and I sometimes used to go with her. One day, we found Sophia at the doorstep of that orphanage. Through surveillance cameras, the association found that the man left her at midnight when no one was around. We tried to find that person's identity but nothing special was found. The association accepted her and named her Sophia. My mother and I somehow were connected to her and I used to spend most of my time with her. This was the reason when I saw her today, she seemed a little familiar to me." Parker's attention was focused on my words. When I completed, he asked back, "But Josh found Sophia from another orphanage which was situated here in New York."
I rubbed my chin recalling the past events, when something clicked. "At that time, my father became seriously ill, so my mother had to focus on his health and she stopped visiting that orphanage. I was also a little child and the orphanage was far away from my home, so, my visiting also stopped. After a few months, we got the news that the orphanage was shifted to some new location."
"What was the name of the orphanage?"
"Little Angels Orphanage." I shot back that instant. Parker rubbed his temple and whispered, "Fuck, the name is also similar." I heard him and replied, "You people have good connections. Try to find out who are her parents. They deserve to know about her whereabouts."
"Do you really think that? You only mentioned she was left by some man. What if it was her own father who intentionally abandoned her?" My breath hitched. I thought for some time when I spoke, "You may be right but what if Sophia grew up and if she got to know about it? Even if she did not want to go back she would need closure to move ahead in her life. Please, for her sake find the whereabouts of her parents."
