Chapter 11: Chapter 11 - The Search

After his meeting with the Ancient One, Vorrak said his goodbyes and returned to his investigation. However, his efforts were ultimately in vain; Howard Stark's location was a closely guarded secret, with the military ensuring that all of his activities remained under wraps.

Overall, his day was quite a whirlwind of emotions, swinging from fear to excitement during his encounter with the Ancient One.

Fortunately, he didn't lose his cool and attack her; if he had, he likely wouldn't have made it out alive. As the protector of Earth, the Ancient One takes her role seriously, committed to safeguarding the planet from any potential threats.

If she perceives something as dangerous, she won't hesitate to take action. But if she sees it as harmless, she'll allow it to continue while keeping a vigilant watch.

Now that he was deemed as non-threatening to Earth, Ancient One decided to let him go.

As long as he doesn't do anything that draws her attention.

Looking ahead, Vorrak feels uncertain. On one hand, his very presence has already disturbed the timeline.

By existing at all, Vorrak has caused some disruption, like with Kirabo, who should have died but was saved because of him.

And then there's Kedu Okonjo, who passed away, and the silverback gorilla who had a son. If those two had lived, they might have impacted the future significantly through their choices.

Since Vorrak has already given Kirabo instructions for his mission, every little thing he does alters what's to come.

However, as long as the changes are minor, the major milestones should still occur.

Now that he thinks about it, he realizes he hasn't named his son. He's left that to their caretaker, which makes him feel like a failure as a father.

Just the thought of his sons seeking revenge for leaving them behind sends a chill down his spine, and he prays, hoping they won't go down that path.

Because if they did, he would have to be the one to end them, something he desperately wants to avoid.

Returning to his mission, unaware of Howard Stark's whereabouts, Vorrak decides to enlist in the military, believing he might track Howard down through military channels.

Given the ongoing war, as long as he's in good health, he can join the military.

With his knowledge, meeting the military's standards feels as effortless as sipping water. In fact, he could even bring an early end to the conflict with ease.

But why would he bother? He's not exactly a hero ready to stop the war prematurely. The longer it drags on, the more beneficial it is for him and Kirabo.

From what he recalls, the date is December 28, 1942—only six months before Steve Rogers takes part in Project Rebirth through Abraham Erskine.

Once the new year rolls around, he plans to submit his application to the army. In the meantime, he'll focus on locating Howard Stark in New York, who he suspects might be indulging in wild parties at a hotel with a bunch of girls.

Since Stark Industries was established back in 1939, tracking down Howard shouldn't be too difficult. However, with the war in progress, and Howard being a vital asset to the military, he's likely under constant threat from enemy spies. That's why, during his search, Vorrak hasn't come across any hints of his whereabouts.

By enlisting in the military, he's confident that he'll eventually cross paths with Howard once he climbs the ranks—perhaps even up to brigadier general.

It may seem a bit ambitious, but that rank would definitely give him the chance to meet him.

He might even get the opportunity to witness the iconic moment when Steve Rogers transforms into Captain America for the first time.

Corruptor kept searching until evening and eventually returned to his apartment. As soon as he got home, he went straight to bed, but his mind was racing with thoughts about his next steps.

After meeting with the Ancient One, Vorrak realized he needed to hold back on his actions, or it could disrupt the timeline, leading the Ancient One to come after him.

He didn't want that to happen because he still had plenty of time to grow, and acquiring DNA from Asgardians and some Celestials would be a tremendous advantage.

By the time the 21st century arrives, he wanted to be strong enough to take on anyone without worrying about the consequences for the future.

The Marvel universe is full of mysteries, and he wasn't sure if mutants existed in this world.

If they do, he knew about key figures like Professor X, Wolverine, Magneto, Jean Grey, and Darwin, who can adapt to any situation.

Then there's Deadpool, infamous for breaking the fourth wall and even going so far as to kill his own creator, which is pretty wild.

That's why he needed to be careful about his actions.

With the Ancient One now aware of his presence, Corruptor resolved to minimize his involvement in the events to come.

Since the storyline hasn't kicked off yet and the Ancient One hasn't intervened in his plans, Vorrak feels confident enough to push forward without provoking her wrath.

He thinks it might be wise to familiarize himself with the Ancient One; perhaps building a rapport could give him some flexibility in pursuing his goals, as long as she recognizes that he won't overstep his bounds.

Tomorrow, he intends to resume his search and seize the opportunity to have a conversation with the Ancient One.

Finally, he relaxes, closing his eyes to unwind.

---

In the heart of Greenwich Village, an unremarkable building loomed, often overlooked by those passing by, who failed to notice its strange atmosphere.

Most people didn't even realize they had just walked past it. Inside, a figure in an orange robe stood, bald and surrounded by a mysterious glow, watching the lively street filled with pedestrians.

The Ancient One squinted as a green light burst from the necklace around her neck. It opened up to reveal a glowing green stone.

Suddenly, her head darted around almost as if she were in multiple places at once.

After a brief moment, the Ancient One stopped, the light from the stone fading as she closed her hand over it.

"Vorrak... I need to keep a lookout for him," she murmured quietly, appearing lost in thought.

"There are many scenarios in which he could become destructive, yet each time I try to see the future, my visions falter. I can't look beyond that point."

The Ancient One frowned, frustrated that her foresight, aided by the time stone, had been unreliable whenever she tried to glimpse the future involving Vorrak.

"However, there's also a chance he might not cause chaos, and in that vision, I see Vorrak appearing content and normal in his life."

"Vorrak appears to have settled into a place he feels he can call home, likely somewhere in the Philippines, which I find intriguing."

The Ancient One finds it peculiar that Vorrak has relaxed as if he truly belongs.

"I should look into the Philippines for the next few decades," she resolved, settling on her next course of action.

She planned to keep an occasional watch over Vorrak's future.

"And then there's Vorrak… He really is fascinating. Every time I glimpse his future, I see that we share a strong bond, like that of a mother and her son, unlike Kaecilius, who betrayed me. Unfortunately, I can't interfere with the Sacred Time.

Yet, I still believe that Kaecilius has the potential to change."

"Vorrak… He might just be the one to steer Kaecilius away from making poor choices," the Ancient One mused, smiling softly as she thought about her bond with Vorrak.

From the future she had witnessed—right from the time Vorrak arrived until her own end—there were no negative moments between them.

Every moment they shared was imbued with warmth, and she felt it was unusual to have such a maternal bond with Vorrak.

Maybe, beneath the surface, she'd always craved a family—a realization that only dawned on her when Vorrak entered her life, bringing that desire back to the forefront.

---

Morning broke, and Vorrak stepped outside, greeting the rising sun with a smile.

He wasted no time in continuing his search for Howard Stark. Having already combed through Lower Manhattan, he decided to shift his focus to Midtown and Upper Manhattan today.

By exploring these areas, he hoped to gather clues about Howard's whereabouts.

This time, he was determined to find a way to come up with some cash, even if it meant robbing someone in a back alley.

Without a moment's pause, Vorrak dashed toward an alley, where he swiftly knocked someone out. He briefly connected with the person's mind to extract memories and experiences before wiping their memory of the encounter.

Had it not been for his meeting with the Ancient One, he might have thought nothing of eating the person whole.

However, after that encounter, Vorrak had learned to be more restrained to ensure his own survival.

He didn't care if anyone called him a coward; surviving was his primary concern.

Forget those who say he should fight and die with pride and honor under a powerful figure.

What good is pride and honor if it leads to death? That's just nonsense—true strength lies in being clever and knowing when to act.

Lacking both strength and the wisdom to choose the right moment is just foolishness. Only a fool would charge into death.
