After The Apocalypse, I Was Transmigrated Into a Cultivation World

Chapter 35: Mental Fortitude

Two days later—

Mu Shen got up from his bed, his eyes so cold and his expression dark.

Last night was a chilling experience for him, dreaming about his past and waking up, not remembering anything at all.

"Why does dreams come when it doesn't even allow one to take the memories it brings? I'd rather it does not come at all."

Mu Shen couldn't shake off that sadness in his heart.

Something, bound with indescribable misery and grief, held his body and soul in a tight grip. Cold shiver kept running down his spine every now and then but then something distracted his thoughts.

A deafening ring, a powerful silencing sound that caused the fabric of space to twist.

Mu Shen knew that this wasn't an attack, however when space is distorted to this extent, it means a spatial turbulence is about to occur.

And then, his eyes widened and something clicked.

"The trial!"

He rushed to the end of the room, his hands grabbing important things for example, his cosmic rings.

Space was already too chaotic which made distance either too long or too short.

After grabbing the necessary, the space around him thinned out making his body vanish from its original position.

Mu Shen appeared inside a shed and a glowing seventeen appeared over his head. He saw the threads of space and reality, each string blending in a strange complexity, deforming the very laws of existence. And along the line, two figures appeared.

Mu Shen did not spare them a glance, however these two men stared at Mu Shen warily. But his interest was piqued when he saw a glowing number above their heads. Six and Nineteen.

"So, numbers are given to cultivators so that their progress can be tracked huh?"

Figures after figures appeared, glowing numbers appearing over their heads until the shed became clustered with cultivators. Mu Shen sighed.

Another trial to endanger his life. Who knows what he was bound to face after this moment?

Just as he was pondering, Yuan Shi suddenly appeared before him — like, they both faced each other. He was number thirty-five.

Mu Shen's lips curved up in a smile while Yuan Shi was filled with shock.

"You're here? And you're number seventeen?"

Mu Shen stared at the crowd before turning his gaze towards Yuan Shi, he ignored the question and immediately changed the subject.

"Where's the Feather God Master?"

Yuan Shi's face twisted in a frown. "Xuan Qi and I had a fight, however he isn't here yet or maybe he's somewhere within the crowd and we can't see him."

Mu Shen smiled darkly.

"I don't why but, I'm feeling that this trial isn't what it is."

Yuan Shi's face suddenly paled.

"Do you feel that way too?"

Mu Shen was pleasantly surprised. "Yes, I feel so. Do you also feel the same?"

Yuan Shi couldn't help but nod. "I got confirmation from Xi Wei, she's an oracle. We stayed together most of the time. But now I can't find her."

Mu Shen tsked.

"Do not depend on an Oracle to be your guide. It'll break you in the future."

Yuan Shi did not argue with Mu Shen knowing and confirming that Mu Shen was much stronger than he is, despite them being in the same domain relm.

The worst shame he had felt so far is — Mu Shen defeating him, a Melder as a Seeker. It was all just too freakish.

More cultivators appeared inside the shed until it was the very last of them and shockingly, a numerous cultivators actually fit a small shed. But Mu Shen already knows why — it is the distortion in space and a small shed fits thousands of cultivators.

Right at that moment a voice spoke in their head. The thing is— everyone's mental fortitude was being manipulated by the higher-ups and now, they had access to their mind, knowing what they think, what they are about to do, the actions they take.

So, everyone received a set of information, however Mu Shen got none.

His brows furrowed into a frown when everyone started to exit the Shed as if they had a destination in mind.

Mu Shen saw Yuan Shi turning to leave and he dragged him back.

"What's going on?" He asked.

"You don't know? Everyone has been given a special destination for us to pass the phase 1 of our trial. It is something we are to do individually under a particular time frame, if we do not complete it on time, we would be disqualified. Weren't you told?"

Yuan Shi left almost immediately, making Mu Shen's face to darken.

"Why didn't I get the information?"

He did not move from his spot until it was just him remaining in the shed.

*****************************************

"Zhi Fei, what's going on? Number seventeen has been standing on a spot for a while now? Did you pass the information?"

"Lan Si, I've been trying. The kid has a very high mental fortitude."

Three figures turned.

Zhi Fei's eyes widened.

"How high?"

"89% high, I mean — we won't be able to communicate unless someone with a much higher domain relm tries to control him."

There was a moment of silence and then, Zhi Fei spoke: "Go call Bai Teng."

A few moments after, the man in pure white garment stepped in.

"Who is that child?"

"Number seventeen. Age; 20 Name; Mu Shen."

The man — Bai Teng stared at the screen and his expression changed.

"Him?"

Lan Si asked. "Do you know him, Sir Teng?"

The man nodded. "I watched him breakthrough and become a Melder."

"Sir, probably you can manipulate him."

They immediately gave the seat to him and he did.

However, the old man's expression changed drastically.

"No access?"

"Please, inform him normally so that he begins the test or his time would be far spent."

"Alright Sir Teng!"
