Chapter 41: Locking The Heavens
A low hiss caused Mu Shen's self awareness to spike tremendously — and from its massive fangs lay a very dangerous venom capable of melting even the sturdiest of steel.
Its thin tongues slithered out in a hiss.
"I know you ssss."
It was staring in Shi Feng's direction. "Youzsss wantssss my sssegggsss? Come get itzssss."
Mu Shen cringed.
Its language was always imbued with the letter 'S' and 'Z' and it was irritating.
Shi Feng grabbed Mu Shen. "What is the plan?"
However, Mu Shen crushed Shi Feng's hope of survival.
"You did not give a proper explanation of the situation, so I expected something very different — more of a direct confrontation. However, it met us first so my plan can only be dropped."
Shi Feng's expression was damn and his face, pale. Was it really his fault?
He had omitted most information for a good reason — just in case Mu Shen wasn't going to keep his promise, he would eventually have to face the wrath of the murderous serpent. But, a realization dawned on him.
Could he have made a mistake?
Have their chances of survival plummeted further down?
Shi Feng studied Mu Shen's expression, but the guy was so unusually calm as if the serpent itself is not something to panic about.
"Sss Ooo presssssumptuousssss!" The serpent furiously bellowed because it had seen Shi Feng whisper into Mu Shen's ears and Mu Shen had replied so calmly as if the serpent was non-existent.
Immediately it attacked, two titanic jaws snapping and crushing the fabric of reality and deadly venom, squirting out instantly dissolving and melting whatever comes in contact with it.
All Mu Shen needed to do is — activate Skywheel Technique.
And instantly, motes of light and components gathered infinitely in the sky and formed an impregnable defense around them.
The Stormsea had utterly reduced the devastating power of the Skywheel but here in the forest, its full potential was being usurped.
Mu Shen glared at Shi Feng with cold eyes.
"Why didn't you tell me the truth?"
Shi Feng shuddered and answered without delay.
"I'm sorry, I thought I couldn't trust you completely. Besides, you're just like any other cultivator, cunning and care more about yourself than others so I made a backup plan just in case."
Mu Shen's pupils stretched in anger that he struggled to control his untethered rage.
"Every cultivator strives to live and would not trust blindly. You should know that a cultivator is tied to their promises that failing it results in a backlash. If I had wanted to kill you, I would have done that a long time ago without even thinking twice about it."
Shi Feng shivered under the oppressive pressure of Mu Shen's words.
Kill him?
It was all too easy. A single barrier was able to stall an enormous serpent to the point that it was actually going all-out.
Suddenly, Shi Feng's face paled.
He shouted.
"Mu Shen, it is about using Locking The Heavens. Let's leave now or we would never have the chance to leave — ever."
Mu Shen's pupils were constricted.
"Locking The Heavens?"
Shi Feng grabbed Mu Shen's shoulders. "Have you ever considered how vast the heavens are? I mean even countless parallel universes wouldn't exhaust the inconceivable expanse that the heavens bear. But then, there's something that actually locks the heavens."
Chills immediately ran up Mu Shen's spine as his face darkened.
"Is there any special way to avoid it?" Mu Shen asked. However Shi Feng shook his head.
"None, we can only run for our lives. Let's do that now that we are able to."
Mu Shen stared at the Serpent which stared back at Mu Shen. And then, Mu Shen's Skywheel Technique shrank rapidly, vanishing into thin air and at the same time — an unfathomable rolled up shockwaves that caused the earth to split.
Mu Shen did not leave immediately as Shi Feng had asked him to, instead he ran behind the serpent as his target was the eggs behind the golden lusterless serpent.
"Dessssssspicable!"
It hissed and rolled up, its massive tail coiling and flogging down at the sky and everything around fractured and shattered.
