Chapter 53: "You're… trying to kill me…"
It's bright, a bit cold, and there's a hint of disinfectant in the air. Definitely the hospital.
Goddammit what happened yesterday?
I slowly opened my eyes and sat up from my position. I looked to my right and saw Naruto sleeping on a bed with his entire right arm bandaged. Then I looked to my left and saw Sasuke sleeping on a bed with his entire left arm bandaged. Then the memories of the Chunin Exam came streaming back.
"Did the arena blew up?" I asked Sakura who is sitting on a desk not far away from me.
Sakura looked at me and smiled. "Not really, thanks to you by the way," she said while walking towards me and start flashing me with her flashlight. "Though, since you only protected the audience side of the arena…"
"The walls on the other side blew up?" I asked her.
"Yes, unfortunately," Sakura then walked over to Sasuke and looked at him with a sad look on her face. "Their entire limb was broken on the inside," she said. "I almost failed to save their arm, heck, if they used a tiny little bit more power there won't be anything left to save."
I looked at the one armed Naruto and Sasuke around me. "Are they going to be okay though?" I asked her.
Sakura nodded a little. "Yes, but I'm sealing their chakra," she said with a no nonsense tone on her voice. "I'm also giving them a reinforced cast equipped with paralyzing seal," she added and I know that she really means business now.
"Have you chewed them out for this yet?" I asked her.
"They haven't woke up since yesterday," Sakura replied. "But their vital signs are alright, so it's probably just the fatigue."
"So, I guess we still have a tournament arc with no clear winner huh?" I asked Sakura.
The girl shook her head. "Since Sasuke and Naruto tied, Haku and Shikamaru 'tied', that just leaves the remaining contestant," Sakura giggled a little. "Aburame Shino wins the Chunin Exam by default, for not fighting a single opponent during the finals."
I laughed a little after hearing that one. The one person that nobody expects to win, actually wins by default. And this is a complete accident. "So how's he's taking it?" I asked her.
"He said that he felt deeply honored and very insulted at the same time," Sakura replied. "Something about getting victory handed to him without a single effort. And that he's been saving up something great for the Chunin Exam."
Well, poor Shino, but at least he brought a tremendous honor to both our village and his clan. So that's that and he should be glad about it.
I sat up on my bed and stretched my arm. "Haku?" I said while looking around. "Oh, she's not here."
"Stop treating her like a summon," Sakura said.
"I'm treating her like how she wants me to treat her," I retorted.
Sakura was about to say something when knocking sound came from the door. Sakura opened it, revealing Hinata and Haku standing on the door with flowers and gifts. "Yo!" I greeted them.
"Good morning," the two of them said.
"Good morning you two," Sakura said. "The boys hasn't wake up yet," she added.
Hinata walked over to Naruto and put down a freshly made bento on the bedside cabinet. She then ever so gently stroked his head with a sad smile on her face. "Stupid Naruto kun…" she whispered. "You're awesome, you don't have to fight so hard to show it."
Then I noticed Haku standing beside me. "Mistress, I brought you your breakfast," she said while handing me a bento and a thermos that should better be filled with coffee. She then materialized a thin ice tray on my lap and put the bento on to it.
I smiled a little at her. "Good work Haku," I patted her head a little. "You're the best maid anyone could ask for."
"A maid?" I heard Sakura exclaim in disbelief but I ignored her.
"Thank you mistress," Haku said.
I opened the bento and realized that Haku has finally outdid herself. There's rice with sprinkles of dried seaweed. Little sausages cut in the shape of octopus, some folded scrambled eggs, fresh fried salmon, and some chicken teriyaki.
In other words, I had a very good breakfast. Coupled by the fact that Haku did brought me some coffee, I feel much better already. "Mistress, since you're done eating, the Hokage is requesting your presence in the Hokage Tower," and just like that she ruined my morning.
"No, I'm not done," I put aside the tray and grabbed Haku's body with the force. She yelped a little when I pressed her body against mine and lay down on the bed. "The kyubi is not around and I haven't had my morning cuddles," I closed my eyes and moved my mouth close to her ear. "You know what that means… ne, Haku chan?"
I can feel Haku's breathing getting heavier. "I-I don't…" I hugged her tighter before slowly turning sideways. "Mistress…" she whispered, her voice getting weaker and weaker.
"Just relax Haku chan… I'll be gentle," I whispered to her before slowly opening my eyes. At that moment, I found myself staring at a very flustered Haku. Her face is beet red and she could barely meet my gaze.
I smiled at her and gently stroked her back. I can feel her shivering slightly as a light moa…
"That's enough you two!" something hard smacked my head, ruining the mood. I looked at Sakura and found her looking at me in annoyance. "Haios, the Hokage called you, this is no time for fan service."
I rolled my eyes a little. "Fine," I looked back at Haku and found her looking down in slight embarrassment. "Alright, you can go continue whatever it is you were doing," I told her before climbing out of the bed.
"See ya Sakura, Haku, Hinata," it was then that I noticed that Hinata is watching Naruto sleep. "Not gonna comment on that one," I muttered before flying out of the window.
[LINE BREAK]
As I flew above the streets of Konoha, a sudden foreboding hit me like a freight train. I mean, most people would feel this sinking feeling that slowly gets worse, but this one is a sudden strike of paranoia that makes me thinks of Genjutsu.
Except for the fact that Genjutsu doesn't work on me…
When I landed in front of the Hokage Tower the feeling of paranoia became unbearable. I looked at the Chunin standing guard on the door and found them looking at me in concern. "Haios san, are you alright?"
I'm fine. "I'm fine," I told them. "Why?"
"You look like you just saw a ghost," the chunin said while leaning down towards me. I instinctively took a step back and put a shield in front of me. "Is something wrong?"
I shook my head. "No… The Hokage summoned me," I said before rushing into the tower and went past the receptionist. There's something really wrong with my sense of danger right now, after this, I'm gonna have Sakura check my mental state. I mean, it felt like I'm going to have a boss fight!
I was in front of the Hokage Chamber before I know it. "Come in, Haios san," a voice appeared from inside it. I held my breath and put my hand on the door handle. Why is it so hard? You've been in this room a hundred times already, it's just the stupid old fossil.
With more force than I expected, I pushed over the door and banged it to the wall. I looked at the old man sitting in front of me with a paperwork in his hands. "Calm down Haios san, is something matter?" he asked.
I bit my lip and walked towards the Hokage. "Nothing, old man…" I muttered. "I just… Have this feeling that something just went horribly, horribly wrong and…" I clenched my fist. "And there's nothing I can do about it…"
The Hokage took a whiff of his pipe. "I see," he said as a cloud of smoke came bellowing out of his mouth. "I don't blame you for having these feelings," he said. "As powerful as we think we all are, there's not much we can do to struggle against the inevitable."
My blood ran cold and I looked up to face him. On the outside, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with him. But his eyes, once sparkling with wisdom, now dull and gray. Then I noticed the sorrowful yet empty expression on his face.
I took a step back and created a tight force field around my body. "Hiruzen… What's going on…" I wildly scanned my surroundings for an opening to escape. "Alright, what happened to old man and have you done with him?"
The old man sighed a little. "When I was assassinated shortly after the Chunin Exam…" I froze in shock after hearing that one. "…I was brought back to life with the Impure World Resurrection, at the cost of my free will."
FUCK! FUCK FUCK FUCK, GOD FUCKING DAMMIT!!!
I did a one eighty and blasted out of the hokage chamber. Intel gathering be damned, anyone strong enough to kill the old man is way above my pay grade. Right now, all I gotta do is tell everyone about this so we can plan our… next… move…
Where am I? Why am I in a cave? This doesn't make any sense… Genjutsu? Maybe now I'm vulnerable to Genjutsu? I mean, how the heck do you explain…
Portal, behind me, a swirling orange portal that leads into the Hokage Chamber. It's closing down and I am not giving anyone who put me there the satisfaction of closing the portal on my face.
Number one, surroundings, I'm currently inside a massive cave. It's hard to see, but this cave feels more like large opening than an actual network of tunnels. It's like this place is natural and artificial at the same time.
Number two, self-assessment, I'm unharmed and ready to kick ass. I have a demon wind shuriken inside a storage seal, but I need chakra to get it out. I also have a bunch of explosive tags, a shadow clone kunai, and my trusty spork.
Wait, shadow clone! I took out a kunai out of my pocket and grinned victoriously. "Naruto, oi," I whispered to the kunai before stabbing it on the ground below me. With a puff of smoke, the shadow clone turned into a Naruto shadow clone.
The clone then straightened his posture and saluted at me. "Clone 18273 ready for combat!" he exclaimed.
I nodded a little. "Okay, listen, I'm kidnapped," the clone's eyes widened after hearing that. "There's more, the Hokage was assassinated after the Chunin Exam, don't panic!" I exclaimed in the end before the clone could say anything. "Look, when you dispel, I need you, the original, to tell Sakura that the Hokage is controlled using the Impure World Resurrection, okay? Don't worry about me, Konoha is in serious danger right now."
The clone clenched his fist. "Sir, yes sir!" he exclaimed. "Shall I depart now?"
I was about to say yes when I remembered my sealed artillery. "Hold on, I need you to open this for me," I took out a sealing scroll out of my pocket and handed it to him. The clone swiftly unraveled the scroll and in a blink of an eye, four pitch black demon wind shuriken lay down right in front of me. "Nice…" I gave the clone a thumb up. "You can dispel now, I'll take it from here," I told him.
The clone gave me one last salute before it disappeared in a puff of smoke. I grabbed all four giant shuriken with the force and have one strapped behind my back, two revolving around me, and the last one folded for my hand held weapon.
What? I'm not stupid enough to enter a boss fight with a spork!
"Well? Anybody home?" I exclaimed as I walked around the empty cave.
A hail of white shuriken soared towards me. I erected a force field to deflect it, noticing that they're all razor sharp paper shuriken. "Paper huh?" I commented with a smirk. "You're so damn lucky Sasuke's not around because if he…"
I jumped back just in time to dodge a hail of explosive cards. Then I floated up and the twin demon shuriken around me started to spin faster and faster. "Okay, now you're being a dick, where the hell are you?!" I exclaimed before flying around the cave with the spinning blade of death swirling around me.
Soon enough, I managed to spot her, a blue haired woman standing in the corner of the cave. I threw the demon shuriken straight at her and she erected a paper shield to stop it. The shuriken shreds through her shield but slows down considerably for her to safely dodge it.
Unfortunately for her, I have two. So I threw the other one straight towards her torso. It seemingly sliced her in half, but the absence of blood and screaming tells me that it doesn't hurt her at all. In fact, her whole body seems to be composed of paper and is now regenerating.
"Okay, who the fuck are you? What the fuck do you want?" I exclaimed while making the two shuriken revolve around me once again. If I can't hurt her, that means I just have to survive until help arrives… Whenever that will be, but they will surely arrive…
The woman suddenly vanished from her spot and I barely managed to strike her with my shuriken behind me. I didn't take to account her paper physiology though, because she suddenly exploded into pieces of paper and is now surrounding me.
I quickly erected a tight force field around my body, but then hundreds of sizzling sound appeared all around me and my blood ran cold. "You're… trying to kill me…" I whispered before my vision turned white.
