Chapter 7: Yennefer Berkshire
"O-Okay, we're good—"
Right as those words left Sammy's lips, an overbearing pressure crashed down on Knox, forcing his knees to buckle.
A deep scowl formed on his face as he clenched his teeth in frustration.
"I just knew this sh*tty cliché would happen," he muttered under his breath. "Why am I not allowed to peacefully enjoy my non-crippled body!? Why is there so much nonsense!?"
A voice—sharp, icy, and filled with authority—cut through the air.
"What are you doing to my younger sister?"
Knox's head snapped upward, his golden eyes narrowing. Floating above him was a woman, her cold gaze locked onto him with clear hostility.
Floating.
She was actually levitating in midair!
Although countless questions flooded his mind, Knox knew better than to stand there gawking. If he didn't speak fast, his identity as the Eldest Young Master of the Falazar Count Family wouldn't matter—his head would roll before he even had a chance to proclaim his Young Master status.
The younger and more immature Sammy had only just embarked on the path of cultivation. Her cultivation base at the Marrow Refinement Realm made her a genius, but she had yet to harness Innate Energy.
Her older sister, however, was an entirely different matter.
Yennefer Berkshire.
Peak Foundation Establishment Realm.
A prodigy whose mastery over Innate Energy had earned her the title of "3rd Prodigal Goddess" of the Water Nation—the very nation that housed both the Berkshire and Falazar families.
"If you don't respond within the next two seconds, I'll be forced to—"
"Hold on just a moment, Toots," Knox interrupted, raising a hand as if to halt her impending wrath. "As your adorable younger sister can tell you, I've done nothing but treat her with the utmost hospitality. Seeing as this forest and everything for hundreds of miles will soon belong to me, it's only natural that I take good care of any lost bunnies."
He had no real interest in claiming territory or authority, but she didn't need to know that.
Yennefer's strikingly sculpted brow arched slightly as her piercing gaze scrutinized Knox from head to toe.
Knox, ever aware of his own attractiveness in this life, was used to being ogled. But the way she looked at him… it was as if she were eyeing a prime slab of steak.
"You're the Eldest Young Master of the Falazar Count Family?" Yennefer asked plainly. "I thought you'd be… taller."
Taller!?
Knox's expression darkened instantly.
You b*tch! I'm already 6'2!
Far above average in this world!
What do you want me to be!? A f*cking giraffe!?
You yourself are only 5'4! Are you planning to climb a tree during our smexy time!?
His face twitched violently after only ten seconds of being in this woman's company.
And this was supposed to be his fiancée?
Who cared if her beauty was unmatched?
Who cared if her figure was flawless, unrivaled in both Heaven and Earth?
…Okay, maybe he cared a little.
Just a bit.
Knox took a deep breath, reigning in his irritation.
"M…Miss Yennefer," he said, forcing civility into his tone, "is that really something appropriate for a young lady like yourself to say? Isn't insulting someone beneath a person of your stature?"
He carefully worded his statement, subtly alluding to her short height while making it sound as if he were referring to something else entirely.
Her expression subtly tightened.
Knox smirked internally. Irritated, are we? Good.
Even if she was powerful, this was his home—a place filled with individuals far stronger than even her. His father alone could think her out of existence if he wished to.
For once in his many lives, Knox felt the full advantage of having a high social status.
'Now then, what's your next move, Fiancée o' Mine?'
"You're right, Mister Knox Falazar," Yennefer finally responded, shadows veiling her eyes. "It is indeed beneath someone of my stature. Speaking to a former cripple like yourself is something I shouldn't be doing. How high is your cultivation again?" She feigned a thoughtful expression. "Oh… I guess that was inconsiderate of me to ask."
Knox's smirk disappeared.
'This little…'
Suppressing his irritation, he exhaled sharply and turned away.
"Well, if that's all, I'll be taking my leave now."
"Wait."
The moment she spoke, an invisible force compelled him to halt.
Knox's muscles stiffened.
'Innate Energy Manipulation.'
He gritted his teeth. This was a problem.
"My sister still hasn't told her part of the story," Yennefer continued smoothly. "Even if you are the Eldest Young Master of the Falazar Count Family, that doesn't excuse you from mistreating an heir of the Berkshire Count Family."
She turned to Sammy, her voice softening.
"Come now, tell your big sister if you've been mistreated by this esteemed gentleman over here. And don't worry, you can be frank with me."
Sammy hesitated, her wide, watery eyes flickering between Yennefer and Knox.
She hadn't meant for things to escalate like this. What had started as a misunderstanding had spiraled into something far beyond her control.
"B-Big Sister," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. "H…He didn't do anything to me that wasn't deserved. I'm already over it…"
A deafening silence followed.
Unbeknownst to the innocent angel, her poorly worded statement sent rolling storms into the hearts of both Knox and Yennefer.
"You sick bastard," Yennefer growled, her voice laced with pure venom. "Do you think that just because this is your territory, you can do whatever you want to your visitors?? What scum!"
Knox's eye twitched violently.
He slowly turned his head toward the supposed angel responsible for his imminent doom.
Which Deity had he offended to deserve this Devil-tongued girl!?
But seeing how Yennefer's glare was piercing straight into his soul, he swallowed his grievances and focused on the real threat at hand.
"This isn't what it seems," he said quickly. "Your sister's wording is just screwed way the hell up! I really didn't do anything inappropriate to her!"
…Wait.
That didn't sound much better.
'Sh*t.'
