Chapter 9: Chapter 9: The Truth Revealed
Dr. Maria's words sent a shiver down Jack's spine. He couldn't believe what he was hearing.
"What does this have to do with my parents?" Jack demanded.
Dr. Maria's expression turned somber. "Your parents, Jack, were part of the research team on Project Mew. They were brilliant scientists, but they began to question the ethics of the project."
Cynthia's eyes narrowed. "What do you mean?"
Dr. Maria hesitated. "The project's goal was to create a Pokémon with unparalleled power. But your parents realized that such a creature could be catastrophic in the wrong hands."
Jack's mind reeled. "So, what happened to them?"
Dr. Maria's voice dropped to a whisper. "They tried to leave the project, but...they were silenced."
Jack felt a wave of anger wash over him. "Silenced? You mean...?"
Dr. Maria nodded. "I'm afraid so, Jack. Your parents were murdered to keep them quiet."
The room fell silent, the only sound the hum of the machinery.
Cynthia spoke up, her voice firm. "We need to get out of here, Jack. Now."
But Jack stood frozen, his mind reeling with the truth.
Suddenly, the lights flickered, and the machinery whirred to life.
Dr. Maria smiled. "It seems our conversation has triggered the experiment's initiation sequence."
The room began to shake, and the glass container holding the Mew began to glow brighter.
"What's happening?" Jack shouted.
Dr. Maria's eyes gleamed with excitement. "The Mew is about to hatch. And when it does...nothing will ever be the same again."
