Born to Rise : Becoming Vice President

Chapter 3: Chapter 3: My Name Is Gevran. I'm Not Ordinary.

Chapter 3: My Name Is Gevran. I'm Not Ordinary.

It was the second day at Daesan International School, an elite institution. The school building looked more like a modern palace—with gleaming white marble, towering pillars, and a vast garden that looked better suited for fashion magazine shoots than a place for students to gather.

But Gevran was ready. Dressed in a casual Armani set and black leather shoes, he walked with a cool and confident aura.

"Morning, Gevran!" called out Han Jimin as he approached the school gate. He looked much more spirited today. The bruise on his cheek was treated and neatly covered. Jimin wore his old blazer, but now stood a little taller.

"You look refreshed," Gevran said with a small smile.

"Because I have a reason to keep going," Jimin replied firmly.

Gevran simply patted his shoulder. "Let's start changing the world from here."

---

In class, the atmosphere was the same. The elite kids lounged lazily, playing with iPads and fancy phones. But today, one thing was different: they glanced at Gevran with a mix of curiosity and caution.

"Did you hear? He bought Minho's car yesterday!"

"Whose kid is he anyway?"

"New money? But he acts… like a diplomat's son…"

The whispers didn't bother Gevran. He opened his laptop, began typing lecture notes, and… waited.

Sure enough, as he predicted, Minho and his gang entered the classroom. This time, more cautiously. Minho looked at Gevran, calculating. But no confrontation—yet.

---

During break time, Gevran and Jimin sat in the school's back garden. It was quieter there, with a small pond and blooming cherry blossom trees.

"I haven't had the chance to say… thank you," Jimin said softly.

"You don't need to thank me. But if you want to repay me—help me."

"Help you with what?"

"Make this place fairer."

---

Weeks passed. Gevran quickly became the center of attention. Teachers admired his intelligence. Students were puzzled by his background. But most surprising of all was his courage—he didn't bow to the school's social hierarchy.

He formed a free study group for scholarship students.

He stood up for a student mocked for his accent.

And unknowingly, he began to attract sympathy from the "bottom" and fear from the "top."

---

One afternoon, while Gevran was sitting in the library, Jimin came in with news.

"Minho… they're talking about you. They say you should know your place."

Gevran looked straight ahead. "Good."

"Good?"

"Because that means I've started to shake their system."

Jimin swallowed hard. "Aren't you scared?"

"I died once because of bullying. This time, I live to end it."

---

That night, Gevran wrote in his digital journal.

> Day 30 of my second life. I'm not just surviving. I'm leading.

But this is just the beginning. I haven't forgotten—my end goal is to change the system from its roots.

And for that... I have to be more than just a smart student.

I must become a symbol.

And that symbol must be unshakable.

(Continuation)

One day, after International Economics class, a blond student with Korean-English heritage approached Gevran's desk. His name was Leo Han Whitmore, the son of the CEO of Asia's largest finance corporation.

"I heard you started a study group?" he asked, glancing at the book Gevran was reading.

"Yeah. For anyone who wants to learn—not just the smart ones."

Leo nodded, a sly smile playing on his lips. "You're different from us… and usually, people who are different don't last long in a place like this."

Gevran looked at him calmly. "Maybe. But the different ones are the ones who often change everything."

Leo said nothing more and walked away. But Gevran knew—the warning had been given.

---

In the teachers' lounge, a homeroom teacher, Mr. Bae, chatted with a colleague.

"There's something odd about that new kid, Gevran. He's too... mature."

"Yeah. And the way he talks—it's like he's lived multiple lives already."

---

A few days later, flyers about the study group "Phoenix Class" began circulating. The name was Jimin's idea—a symbol of rising from the ashes. Many scholarship students were interested in joining. But quite a few were also being ostracized by elite students just for getting close to Gevran.

One night, as Gevran was walking home from school, a black car followed him from a distance. When he reached the gate of his house, the car stopped—then sped off.

"The game has begun," he muttered.

---

On Friday, a shocking incident occurred. A scholarship student named Eunji was found locked in the equipment room, crying. Someone had accused her of stealing an elite student's luxury watch.

But before the teachers could act, Gevran showed up with CCTV footage from the hallway.

"The watch was planted in her locker by the real culprit. And I have the footage."

The teachers and students were stunned.

"Who did it?" the Principal asked, rushing over.

Gevran looked at Minho and Leo standing nearby. "That's your job to investigate. But know this—if there's no justice here, I'll release this to the media."

The school was in uproar.

---

That night, in his room, Jimin stared at his phone screen, reading a small post on the elite school's forum:

> "New kid threatens school system. Hero or troublemaker?"

Jimin sent a message to Gevran:

You realize? Everyone's watching you now.

Gevran replied:

That's what I wanted from the start. Their attention will be the beginning of change.

---

A week after the watch incident, Gevran's name became even more well-known. Among scholarship students, he was starting to be called "The Hero Kid." But among the conglomerate kids, he was being seen as a growing threat.

On Monday morning, as Gevran entered school, something was different. His eyes were drawn to the school's bulletin board. There, pasted all over, were photos from the past lives of scholarship students: rundown houses, their parents doing manual labor, and even an old photo of Jimin—carrying cardboard boxes in a narrow night market alley.

"What… is this?" Jimin whispered, trembling.

"It's not just photos… this is humiliation," said Gevran softly, but firmly.

People began to gather. Some laughed, others looked uncomfortable, and the rest just watched like it was a drama unfolding.

From the second floor, Minho leaned on the railing with a smug smile. Next to him, Leo yawned lazily.

"You want to be a hero? Enjoy being the next target," Leo thought to himself.

---

That day, Gevran didn't go to class as usual. He took Jimin and some students to the teacher's office. But no one responded.

"We'll investigate, but we can't accuse anyone without evidence," said the Principal, trying to sound neutral, though his face was clearly nervous.

Jimin, who was usually cheerful, looked gloomy. "They exposed our past… made everyone feel ashamed."

Gevran looked at him. "You're not shameful. You're a fighter."

---

That night, Gevran's house was attacked. A rock crashed through their window. Tied to it was a note, written in harsh capital letters:

"STOP BEING A HERO. OR WE'LL EXPOSE YOUR PAST TOO."

Gevran read the note at the dinner table. His mother, Yi-Ana, sat in silence, hugging a frightened Kasang. His father, Jido, stood with clenched fists.

"This is just the first step, Gevran," Jido said. "If you want to change the world, be ready to become the enemy of the powerful."

---

The next day, Gevran stood in front of the school bulletin board. With a red marker, he wrote in large letters over all the photos:

> "BEING POOR ISN'T A SIN. BULLYING IS."

Then, he looked directly at the CCTV camera pointed at him—and smiled.
