Demon Slayer Flower Village Arc-Script Version

Start of Episode 2: 

INT. ASAI'S HOUSE-DAY

Tanjiro wakes up quickly. He rubs his back while gathering his surroundings. He looks around to see Inosuke and Zenitsu snoring on the floor. Tanjiro smiles at them and checks on Nezuko lying beside him. She was snoring just as loud as them. Tanjiro stands up slowly, walks over to the front door, and slides it open. The sun hits his eyes. In the distance he saw a man at a memorial, it was Asai. He was kneeling at the memorial. When Tanjiro got closer he could see a photo of a woman, a beautiful one at that. 

ASAI 

You can come in.

INT. ASAI'S FAMILY SHRINE ROOM-DAY

This caught Tanjiro off guard as he saw Asai's eyes closed. Did he sense him? Tanjiro entered the room with the shrine. Without hesitation, he knelt beside Asai and joined him in prayer. He could feel the loss in his heart and wanted to weep but Tanjiro kept his composure.

TANJIRO

I'm sorry to ask but who is she?

ASAI

My wife; she passed a long time ago. 

TANJRO

Oh, I'm sorry to hear.

ASAI

Thank you, um…?

TANJIRO

Oh! Right! I'm Tanjiro Kamado, I'm a member of-

ASAI

-Of the demon slayer corps. I know why you've come.

TANJIRO

Oh! That's great! Then let's go-

ASAI

-The answer is no, Tanjiro.

Tanjiro paused.

TANJIRO

Bu-but why?

ASAI

I have my reasons. I'm sorry

TANJIRO

But you are a slayer too, aren't you? 

ASAI

Yes, I used to be. However, I have vowed to never raise my sword again to attack. I have vowed peace since my wife perished. 

Asai reached to his side and grabbed a tea kettle on his right. He grabbed two cups as well and started pouring tea into each one. He grabbed his cup and Tanjiro reached for the other. Both took a sip and Tanjiro enjoyed it.

TANJIRO

Ahhh

Tanjiro looked at the photo again and sighed in grief. He felt the weight of the loss. It was a moment of silence until Tanjiro noticed another three photos behind the woman. One was of a tall man with a blue kimono and a woman with a pink one holding hands and they had their hands on the shoulders of two children. The other photo was of two children by themselves smiling. Tanjiro was curious who they were and Asai picked up on this.

ASAI

That's my family. They're gone too. 

TANJIRO

I'm sorry.

ASAI

Most of them died on the same day except for my older brother. He died when I was younger. I miss them. 

Tanjiro noticed a tear falling down Asai's face as he stared at the pictures. 

ASAI

(Con.)

I still believe to this day that it was my fault. I could've stopped it. I could've stopped that demon from destroying everything if only I was there. 

Tanjiro knew the feeling. He wished he was there for his family. 

ASAI

It was a sunny day that day. I remember how much the sun glowed in the sky…

Tanjiro looked at the photos on the shrine more deeply as we transitioned to the past.

EXT. A VILLAGE-DAY

ASAI

(V.O., cont.)

I remember I just got wedded to my wife. I remember the sparkle in her blue eyes as she looked at me. 

TAIYO

Hey Asai, we should go to the market today.

ASAI

But we should head home for the day.

TAIYO

Oh come on, the one day the corps lets you have free time you want to spend it at home?

ASAI

Sigh

Alright Taiyo, we can go to the market. 

Taiyo laughs and smiles at Asai and he can't help but smile alongside her. They make their way to the market where they pass by a soup shop…

SHOP OWNER

Hey! Asai and Taiyo! Want some noodles?

ASAI

No, thank you!

…a clothes shop…

CLOTHES SHOP OWNER

(Female)

Asai and Taiyo! Would you like to try my new collection? Guaranteed to be comfortable even when hunting those pesky demons!

ASAI

Sorry! We're not looking for clothes at this moment but soon!

CLOTHES SHOP OWNER

(Female)

You better Asai! I'll hold you to that promise!

ASAI

Of course! Of course!

…they also pass a little shop run by a little girl…

TAIYO

What are you selling?

LITTLE GIRL

Um…

TAIYO

It's all right, you can tell me.

Taiyo crouches down.

LITTLE GIRL

Um…It's cookies made by my mommy!

The little girl picks up a pan of cookies sitting behind the table and offers them up to Taiyo.

TAIYO

Wow, these look delicious! How much for one of them?

The little girl darted her eyes away for a moment. 

LITTLE GIRL

Um…They're one a piece.

TAIYO

Oh Wow! Only one?! Hmm…let's see how much I have.

Taiyo reaches into her pocket and grabs some change.

TAIYO

How about I take them all? 

LITTLE GIRL

Really? You'd do that?

TAIYO

(Smiling Gleefully)

MhHmmm…

Taiyo handed the little girl the money and took the sheet of cookies with her. 

LITTLE GIRL

Thank you!!

They waved at each other as they made their way to the marketplace but Taiyo suddenly changed directions.

ASAI

Taiyo, where are you going? The market is this way.

TAIYO

We don't need to go after all, it seems I gave that little girl all my money, whoops.

ASAI

Taiyo, what were you thinking?

TAIYO

Guess I wasn't after all.

Taiyo starts giggling and Asai couldn't stay mad at her and he joined her in a giggling fit.

ASAI

Come Taiyo, let's go home.

She took his hand and they made their way home.

INT. HIDEKI FAMILY HOME-AFTERNOON

ASAI

(VOICE-OVER)

We made it back to my family home where our parents greeted us welcome.

HANA

Welcome home, Asai!

ASAI

Hi, Mother.

MEPURU

My son!

ASAI

Hi, Father.

Asai looked around and saw Taiyo's parents as well.

ASAI

What are you two doing here? 

TSUKI

Well, we've come to welcome you back home, Asai!

HANA

How long has it been, Asai?

ASAI

I'd say a good two months, mother.

Hana hugs Asai and he walks over to Taiyo but before he can reach her Nisshoku, Taiyo's father, stands in front of him. 

NISSHOKU

We need to talk. 

Nisshoku grabs Asai and pulls him aside where his father also joins in the secret discussion. 

NISSHOKU

(Whispering)

So, what gift did you get her?

ASAI

Gift? What do you mean?

MEPURU

You mean, you didn't get her anything? 

ASAI

Well, we were planning on heading to the market but we didn't end up going.

NISSHOKU

So you didn't her her anything for the occasion?

ASAI

Occasion? What Occasion?

MEPURU

This guy doesn't get it, does he?

ASAI

Get what?

MEPURU

Never mind that, listen, my son, you got to head to the market as fast as you can and get her the perfect gift. Here…

Mepuru reaches into his pocket and pulls out a few coins and palmed it into Asai's hand.

MEPURU

(Cont.)

Take this my son and go, I would be quick about it. The celebration is going to start very soon.

ASAI

Celebration? What are you-

Before he could finish his sentence Mepuru and Nisshoku started pushing him out the door. Mepuru grabs Asai's sword from his hip. 

ASAI

Hey that's my-

MEPURU

You're not gonna need it and you'll be able to run faster.

ASAI

But it's nighttime, demons are going to be prowling about. 

MEPURU

What utter nonsense, no demon has been here in centuries, go on Asai, and hurry.

ASAIASAI

But-

Before he could say anything the door was already slammed shut. Asai sighed and quickly made his way to the market which was still open at night. Demons out this far never seemed possible or at least haven't been in centuries. 

EXT. MARKET PLACE-NIGHT

Asai quickly rushed to the market, bought something he thought his wife would like, and made his way over back to the Hideki household.

ASAI

(V.O.)

I wish I had been more insightful, I wish I saw the signs, but I let my guard down and it cost me everything. I know now why she was so badly wanting to go to the market. 

EXT. HIDEKI HOUSEHOLD-NIGHT

Asai returned to his household with the gift in hand. Strangely he noticed that the lights were all out. Did they go home? What happened? Asai opened the door and stepped in…

INT. HIDEKI HOUSEHOLD-NIGHT

ASAI

(V.O.) 

…Blood…so much of it…everywhere…I saw her parents lying on the floor with their throats cut. I rushed to the hallway where I found my parents…the same way…I only was thinking of Taiyo…I rushed to find her in our room on the floor. She was alive…however…

ASAI

(Through Tears)

T-TAIYO!! 

Asai knelt by her side and grabbed her.

TAIYO

(Gurgling)

Don't be sad dear…the tears on your face…wipe them for me…always wipe them for me…and for your son…

ASAI

M-My what?

ASAI

(V.O.)

Taiyo reached down to her belly and I knew without her having to say a word…

TAIYO

Please…Asai…wipe your tears always…don't cry…and always remember…us…

ASAI

(V.O.)

She smiled at me one final time. I rubbed her belly and smiled myself…I couldn't help it…she died in my arms smiling…I know why she wanted to go to the market…

INT. ASAI'S SHRINE-DAY

ASAI

I made a promise to her and my son that day that I wouldn't raise my sword again to fight. So, I hope you can forgive me, Tanjiro.

Tanjro wiped his tears and looked back at the pictures. 

TANJIRO

It was a demon, wasn't it?

ASAI

Yes, I found out later it was a demon. I came across it years later and I had it dead, I could've killed it right there but I hesitated. I don't know why I hesitated but I let the demon escape. Soon after, I left the corps and came here to live out my life in peace. I come to this shrine every morning and thank her for the memories we shared and the memories we had yet to. I also thank my unborn son for the memories we had yet to share. I keep coming here to remind myself of the promise I made and to honor their memory. So you see, Tanjiro, I can not accept. I am truly sorry. 

Tanjrio sat his teacup down and stood up. With one last bow he left the shrine area. 

INT. ASAI'S HOUSE-AFTERNOON

Tanjiro walks back to his friends and they are waiting for him. 

TANJIRO

Let's go you guys.

ZENITSU

He said no? Then what are we gonna do?

INOSUKE

AH! WHO NEEDS HIM!? WE GOT THIS!

TANJIRO

(Inner Thoughts)

Such sadness, I hope he finds his peace. Farewell, Asai Hideki.

They open the front gate and leave. 

INOSUKE

LETS GOO!!

ZENITSU

WA-WAIT FOR ME YOU GUYS!!

Tanjiro and his friends make their way out to the forest from which they came through…

…In the shadows someone was watching them. It was a demon.

OKURIMONO

Soooo…It's time we dance again, Tanjiro Kamado. I feel bad for you and your friends Tanjiro, my master wishes to dance with you all.
