Chapter 38 Lanci's Fire Safety Awareness_1
The sunlight fell through the green leaves, landing on the stone steps of the Sage Academy Tower Library.
On the adjacent road, only a few early birds were hurrying by in the morning glow, and a gentle breeze brought a mixed aroma of flowers and ink.
"So, what would it be like to challenge the Shadow World as part of a team?" Lanci asked.
Lanci wasn't rushing to join a team, choosing to continue the conversation with Vivian.
Becausue first-year students are not allowed to challenge the Shadow World alone, Lanci couldn't participate in the matches on his own.
Once they enter the Void Gate, the Shadow World automatically matches the difficulty level based on the overall situation of the challenger's rankings.
In situations when a team is understaffed, it often gets matched with other Challengers who enter through the Void Gates from around the world.
"You will have Silver Level second and third-year students guiding you in the Shadow World. I'm guessing that with your perception, you will quickly get accustomed to real combat in the Shadow World," Vivian answered Lanci's query.
When they saw the library, a significant landmark of Sage Academy, they knew they were within Sage Academy's jurisdiction.
Gold-level registered Challengers are almost all third-year students, and not ranked lower than Fifth-order.
Even disregarding the reasonable aspect, such a Challenger wouldn't be able to team up with a second-order like Lanci by regulation.
The South Continent Shadow World Management Association has a rule that, for the safety of all Challengers, teams cannot contain members with more than two ranking differences, to prevent significant increases in difficulty.
So, even if Lanci joined a team, the most he would get is a Fourth-Order senior Silver-level upperclassman leading and guiding him.
"So I basically just need to follow orders and play the support role, right?"
"The answer is yes."
"Let me consider it a bit more."
Although Lanci's answer was subtle.
Vivian knew he was declining.
Rewards for completing the Shadow World are often related to the accomplishment of the challenge and the final individual evaluation.
If one simply slides through the Shadow World without contributing much, the rewards wouldn't be many, and the South Continent's Shadow World Management Association wouldn't give high scores when reviewing the challenge after the fact.
But commonly, it's considered a positive outcome if a newcomer can successfully complete a challenge without trouble
Let alone gaining high personal evaluations during the challenge, unless one is a reincarnation of an emperor, wreaking havoc in the Shadow World.
With a thought, Vivian asked,
"Are you planning to command the team yourself?"
She doubted her question.
Would Lanci be so bold?
Even if some teams have their command posts led by support roles, there is no possibility for a newcomer to lead a team.
After all, challenging the Shadow World is a life-risking ordeal for the whole team!
"Of course not, I'm not very good at commanding a lot of people."
Lanci quickly denied the assumption.
"Challenging the Shadow World needs to be handled cautiousl. It is far more dangerous than you may think! Especially for newcomers like you, don't be too full of yourself. Learn to observe and learn."
Vivian advises seriously, she felt that Lanci didn't seem to realize the danger of the Shadow World.
"If you feel our team is suitable for you after all your considerations, feel free to contact me. Be careful of those teams with strong abilities but poor character."
She wasn't rushing to recruit Lanci, just advising him.
There would be many other teams for Lanci to compare and consider. She didn't want him to join their team out of convenience.
Unbeknownst to them, their arrival at a towering red-brick building, reminiscent of a mansion hotel.
"Alright, thank you, Vivian."
Lanci smiled gratefully as he walked through the automatic rotating glass door of the Sage Academy's Dormitory.
From what it seems, some people in the school are interested in him. Regardless of whether or not he joined a team, his Shadow World challenges would attract attention.
Registered challengers participating in the real Shadow World, according to the rules, must carry the South Continent Shadow World Management Association's official [Shadow World Record Program] magic card.
It records all situations and intel during the challenger's time in the Shadow World. It is a crucial asset for many research organizations to analyze and evaluate the Shadow World's information.
It is also a necessity for the Shadow World Management Association to calculate the challenger's promotion points after the challenge.
But the most critical aspect is that the [Shadow Realm Record Program] has a live broadcast feature similar to the "Artificial Shadow World Activation Terminal."
For example, Ichrite Academy, as an official partner of the Shadow World Management Association, allows its Internal Advertising Department at the Magic Engineering College to broadcast particularly educational or fascinating student challenges live to the whole school via the Magic Fluorescent Screen.
If Lanci gains enough attention, he might be caught by the academic staff of the Magic Engineering College!
He doesn't want to be publicly executed.
He wracked his brain. The reception to his second round test [The Hidden Flame of Winter] didn't seem to be high.
In the midst of his thoughts, fresh air rushed towards him, accompanied by a burst of cheerful music.
Upon entering the Sage Academy Dormitory, one can see the grand and elegant platinum chandeliers in the lobby, like bright stars illuminating the entire space.
The lobby on the first floor has sofas and coffee tables for students to rest at any time. Even in the early morning, there were students drinking tea and chatting on the sofas, looking relaxed and happy.
They didn't pay much attention to Lanci and Vivian. To them, seeing new students move in had been a common sight these past few days.
