Chapter 38 Lanci's Fire Safety Awareness_2
Lanci and Vivian, walking across the quaint carpet covering the floor, arrived in front of the reception desk in the lobby.
The administrator looked up at them.
"Moving into the dormitory from today?"
The administrator, wearing an Ichrite Academy name tag, smiled and asked Lanci and Vivian.
"Yes."
"The male dormitory is in the left wing, the female dormitory is in the right wing, and the dining hall is in the back. Room selection operates on a first-come-first-serve basis. The two of you are the earliest to register from the male and female dormitories, so you can choose whichever room you like; there is currently availability on every floor."
The administrator explained with a smile. Due to the recent departure of the former third-year seniors, the dorm rooms they lived in were now vacant.
"Then I'll choose the second floor, see you later."
Vivian quickly made her decision.
Then, accepting the key handed over by the administrator, she turned around and left.
"Goodbye."
Lanci waved his hand.
He felt that Princess Vivian seemed to be proud and aggressive, but she was not a difficult person to talk to. She always responded to others in a sincere and heart-felt manner.
In his hesitation, Lanci also felt that the second floor of the boys' dormitory would be a good choice.
It made for convenient floor transitions, and, unlike the first floor, didn't have a damp atmosphere or as much noise from the constant coming and going of people.
"Just to clarify, the first floor, besides the lobby, also has a few rooms. It's not particularly popular, so in order to make use of these rooms that remained vacant for so long, the school decided to combine the first floor rooms, which therefore resulted in the first floor accommodation being twice as spacious than the other floors."
The administrator spoke with a hint of helplessness.
The Princess had promptly made her choice of the second floor before he even had the chance to recommend the first, without wasting a moment. He didn't dare to beat around the bush with the princess.
He had no idea how this dark-haired, green-eyed boy could remain so calm and composed in front of the Princess.
"In that case, I'll stay on the first floor."
Lanci replied agreeably.
He felt that the dormitory administrator seemed to be very eager to have someone stay on the first floor.
"Alright, this is the key to room 101."
The administrator handed over the silver key, engraved with an inscription of a spell, while smiling.
Although every year they attempt to recommend the first floor rooms to students, it doesn't always work out.
This year, the first student chose the first floor, which made the administrator quite happy.
"Thank you, could I ask where the fire safety equipment is?"
After Lanci took the key, he asked politely.
"!?"
Even though the administrator knew that Lanci's question was a very reasonable one,
he had never encountered a student whose first question upon moving into the dormitory was about fire safety.
This somehow gave him an inexplicably eerie feeling!
The reception desk in front of the first floor of the Sage Academy Dormitory became momentarily silent.
The administrator was sizing up Lanci.
Lanci tilted his head, with an innocent and puzzled expression in his eyes.
"Ahem."
Soon after, the administrator cleared his throat.
The student in front of him looked gentle, polite and modest, so he surely couldn't be a threat.
"Of course, student, our school places great emphasis on the safety of our students. Fire safety is indeed one of the key concerns. The entire dormitory building complies fully with all fire safety regulations and construction standards of the Hutton Kingdom…"
Fulfilling his professional responsibilities, the administrator began explaining to Lanci the locations of the dormitory building's safety exits and fire safety equipment.
Lanci listened earnestly, nodding his head now and then.
This only made the administrator feel increasingly anxious…
"Student, perhaps my question may be a bit offensive, but you haven't brought any dangerous items with you, have you?"
After detailing the answer to Lanci's question, the administrator added another question.
"No, you can rest assured."
Lanci assured confidently.
Upon hearing this, the administrator felt relieved.
The dormitory is equipped with the latest automatic security screening devices from the Magic Engineering College, so it's impossible for anyone to bring flammable or explosive materials into the building.
After bidding goodbye to the administrator, Lanci happily took his key to find his room.
He tried not to bring too much luggage from Nanwantian Border, planning to buy more stuff after he settled into his dormitory in the Royal Capital.
This included items for card-making and the like.
It would be nice if the dorm was spacious enough to set aside a corner for an art studio and Cardmaking Workshop.
This was one of the reasons he was leaning towards choosing a room on the first floor.
On another note, failure was always a part of the card-making process, which was just how card-making went.
Talia was already teasing Lanci, calling him a "Bomb Card Master".
So, if he planned to practice card-making in the dorms, the first floor should be safest, right?
Lanci thought to himself.
Within a short walk, he located dorm number 101 along the corridor facing the lobby.
Inserting and turning the key, he opened the sturdy wooden door with a crisp sound, unveiling a classical-style entrance. A large hat stand and shoe rack in European classical style provided convenient storage for coats and shoes.
The whole entrance hall was simple, functional, and elegant. Lanci crossed the entrance and reached the primary spacious living room of his accommodation.
The living room had a comfortable sofa, a matching coffee table and a Magic Fluorescent Screen mounted on the wall.
Soft cushions and blankets on the sofa were in warm tones, with a vintage floor lamp standing beside. The daylight reflecting off the various brown wooden furniture created a soft and warm space.
It didn't take long for Lanci to figure out the layout of his new home; the living room was connected to four areas: a bedroom with an ensuite bathroom, a balcony, a study, and a seemingly empty room that looked like a giant storehouse, which should be available for students to freely modify and arrange as per their needs.
Although the room was somewhat excessively large, a cramped space would probably result in complaints from students.
While he was contemplating, someone knocked at the door of Lanci's dormitory.
Upon opening the door, he realized that a staff member from the student service center had delivered some luggage he had left there.
Next.
The packing was done smoothly and all was set by noon.
Fully equipped with a variety of furniture and ample, practical storage space, this was the most satisfying aspect.
Lanci sat on the sofa, leisurely flipping through the "Southern Continent Card Maker Association Regulations" whilst waiting for lunchtime.
It was his first step towards becoming a world-renowned Card-Making Master.
The minimum requirement to take the entrance test for the Registering Card-making Master was third-order, wherein they are expected to be able to create three types of Magic Cards including the spell Card, Equipment Card, and Call Card.
Lanci would have to hone his card-making skills for a bit longer.
And try his best to advance to the third order as soon as possible.
Then he could give it a try at the Ekrite Branch of the Capital City in the Southern Continent Card Maker Association to participate in the Card Maker examination.
Only by becoming a Registered Card-making Master and receiving certification can one acquire patent protection.
He could also avoid many tedious appraisal guarantee steps and partial fees, and utilize the official trading platform of the Cardmaker's Association to efficiently sell under his own name.
"In the Shadow World Management Association, I have the Iron-level Registered Challenger status, I wonder where my Card Maker assessment would end up..."
Lanci murmurs while flipping the pages of the book in his hand.
The Registered Card Maker examination, also known as the Grading Exam.
The grading follows seven levels similar to the Shadow World Management Association, which are Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Demon Crystal, and Master.
The initial grading for the Registered Examination depends on the potential of the card maker.
Usually, the opportunity for anyone to pass and be graded as an Iron is great, of course, there are some exceptional card-makers as well with immense potential, who perform extraordinarily and are directly graded as Bronze or Silver.
Being a Silver-level Card Maker is already very impressive.
Even within the school, Gold-level Cardmakers are rare, let alone the entire South Continent, where Gold-level Cardmakers are much less populous compared to Gold-level challengers.
"Ah, my craft is still too unstable."
Lanci sighed and closed the book in his hands.
Although he has independently made Magic Cards of Purple Rareness quality named [Basic Etiquette] and [Friendly Exchange],
In these few months, he has only been successful in making these two cards and a few Blue Preciousness quality first-order cards.
As for the other failed Magic Cards of the therapeutic series, they were all purchased from the Association, luckily these cards were sold at a minimal price, thus they were inexpensive.
"Anyway, I'd better go and venture into the real Shadow World first! If I don't become a third-order, I can't even take the Card-making Master exam."
Lanci has always been quite optimistic and tends not to worry about future day-to-day things.
Just like the saying - enjoy the day and its pleasures, tomorrow is another day!
Becoming a master in cardmaking wasn't something that could happen overnight.
What he needed to know right now was —
His brand new campus life at Ichrite is about to begin!
