Chapter 53: Chapter 53: How is this possible
Everyone had left, including Tang San and Xiao Wu. However, they promised to return after checking the dormitory and confirming the address. The question remained: would they still be needed by then?
Xiao Tianyang could only pick up the shovel and walk toward the uneven ground with a somewhat indifferent expression.
"Tianyang, let me help you." The soft, familiar voice made his heart skip a beat. He turned around to find Saber.
"No, you go check the dormitory with them, and when you return later, you can help then." Xiao Tianyang waved his hand. To be honest, he wasn't sure he should interact with Saber yet, not until he fully understood her background.
The Saber standing before him wasn't the original. Though they shared the same personality, she was actually from the Souluo Continent. She had relatives here, parents, documents, and memories that could be traced. Xiao Tianyang, on the other hand, only had a name.
But unexpectedly, as he turned, Saber stepped forward and gently took his hand, whispering, "I'm sorry..."
Xiao Tianyang blinked, confused. "Why are you apologizing?"
"I should've insisted that my father take your uncle, aunt, and you with us. If I had, the accident wouldn't have happened," Saber said, her green eyes filled with tears that shimmered, making her look extremely pitiful.
"Even so, there's no need to apologize. It was an accident. What does it have to do with you?" Xiao Tianyang turned around, gently placing his hand on Saber's head, offering some comfort. "And I'm fine now. I have friends, a life, a goal, and you, right?"
"You don't blame me?" Saber lifted her head, tears rolling down her cheeks. Xiao Tianyang reached out and wiped them away.
"Well, if I blamed you, would you leave?" he teased.
Saber switched topics. "Of course not! I'll wait until you forgive me!"
"That sounds like you," Xiao Tianyang smiled, but suddenly Saber hugged him. He froze for a moment, and though he instinctively wanted to tease her, he was taken aback when he felt her sobbing against him.
"What's wrong? I don't blame you." Xiao Tianyang's expression darkened, noticing his shirt becoming damp from her tears.
"Mom and Dad... they had an accident... and left me..." Saber buried her head in his shoulder, her tears almost flowing down to her chest. Xiao Tianyang didn't notice the detail, though his eyes twitched. Could this be something the system orchestrated? Was this part of some cruel plan?
But then again, Xiao Tianyang realized it was unlikely. If the system were truly manipulating things in such a way, it would probably have used the real Saber from another world without all this complication. After all, when Xiao Tianyang arrived on the Douluo Continent, he was alone too.
"Maybe Saber had relatives just like me. But when she came back, something happened to them. She still has her identity, and there's no reason for things to be messed up... But now, she has no worries," Xiao Tianyang thought, guilt lessening in his heart.
If a family were torn apart because of his actions, that would be an awful sin. Especially since Saber was such a sweet, strong girl who seemed to care for him.
"Just like you, I went through a dark time, but I found a goal and friends. That's when I regained hope for life," Xiao Tianyang patted Saber gently. "And you came to me seeking hope. Stay with me, and I'll give you what you want."
His words seemed to possess some magic, breaking through the last barrier in Saber's heart. Her tears didn't stop, but she grew more quiet, leaning against him in sorrow. Xiao Tianyang thought it was a good thing—crying was healthier than keeping everything bottled up inside.
Through this, he learned more about Saber. She came from a sailing family, her parents were businesspeople, and they had been family friends with his own family for years. They had known each other since childhood and were considered childhood sweethearts.
As for the accident, Saber didn't know the exact cause, though it was related to a shipwreck. Additionally, Saber had never revealed her strength until she came back to Xiao Tianyang's side. Lastly, she was quite wealthy... which was important to note.
Saber recovered quickly from her grief, and within an hour, she had pulled herself out of the shadow of sadness. Of course, this was largely because she leaned on Xiao Tianyang for emotional support.
Just then, Xiao Tianyang heard footsteps approaching. Looking up, he saw not just Tang San and Xiao Wu, but also Dai Mubai and Oscar. Even Ning Rongrong and Zhu Zhuqing had come. The only one missing was Ma Hongjun, otherwise the whole group of seven would be there.
"Hey, Brother Tianyang, weren't you waiting here for us all this time?" Xiao Wu said, noticing the undisturbed ground and pouting.
"I'm the one who wasted Tianyang's time, sorry," Saber quickly clarified. "Let me handle this. It's getting late, so you should all head back and rest."
"No need to be so polite. We came to help, so we're not in a rush to leave," Dai Mubai said with a grin. "Besides, we brought tools."
Oscar raised a shovel, striking what he thought was a heroic pose, his eyebrows waggling at the others.
"Let's get started early so we can finish early," Xiao Tianyang said with a smile. "If there's time, I'd love to cook a big meal for you all."
Everyone reacted casually, except for Tang San and Xiao Wu, whose eyes lit up. Xiao Wu almost jumped with excitement. "Okay, Brother San! We made a profit this time!"
"It's just a late-night snack. Don't get so excited," Oscar grumbled.
"Hmph, you haven't realized how good Brother Tianyang is at cooking. You'll see later!" Xiao Wu retorted with confidence.
"Think about it—after Tianyang cooked, we were all able to eat those strange sausages. Imagine how much better this meal will be!" Ning Rongrong added, smiling.
Oscar groaned, clutching his chest in mock distress, but no one paid attention.
"Alright, no matter how great Tianyang's cooking is, we can't eat yet!" Dai Mubai declared, picking up his shovel. "We should start digging now and leave the real fun for later!"
"Then let's get to it," Tang San agreed, picking up a shovel as well.
The rest of the group followed suit, even Ning Rongrong, who had princess syndrome, helped with the task which surprised Xiao Tianyang.
