Chapter 133: Chapter 133: Let the Rich Handle It
Dr. Omori said, "While Tights may not care about her family's wealth, she's undeniably a spoiled and willful young lady in other ways. You simply can't talk her out of things..."
Jaco added, "Exactly! Totally reckless!"
Tights stuck out her tongue playfully, attempting to dodge the criticism.
Noticing that Yamiru remained silent, she asked, "Do you think I'm reckless too?"
"Huh?" Yamiru looked up, confused, and after a moment said, "Not at all. Risking your life for your dreams — no one has the right to criticize that, no matter who they are." He smiled. "Besides, I think I'm the last person who has the right to call you reckless."
Tights burst out laughing, rocking back and forth. "Exactly! You're the reckless one here." Resting her chin on her hand, she muttered, "Maybe it was your influence that gave me the courage to do it in the first place."
Dr. Omori and Jaco, of course, had no idea what they were talking about.
"I was just thinking..."
Yamiru had been reflecting on what Jaco and Dr. Omori said earlier about activating the prototype time machine to save Tights, stopping time for fifty seconds. This reminded him of a strange, fleeting unease he'd felt at some point the previous day — an inexplicable sensation that seemed simultaneously brief and eternal. It was as if he had seen or experienced something, but he couldn't recall it clearly.
"...Could it be," Jaco interrupted Yamiru's pensive description, "that your mind somehow stayed active during those fifty frozen seconds?"
"That's impossible," Dr. Omori countered. "Yamiru wasn't inside the time machine when it was activated. According to his description, he didn't physically move during those fifty seconds either. A body frozen with time, but a mind that remains active? That's a contradiction!"
Yamiru murmured, "If it did happen, then for me, what I experienced was a out of body experience, or a stretch of my consciousness?" The thought sent a chill down his spine as he recalled a short sci-fi thriller he'd read before called Mind in Motion.
He shook his head vigorously to clear his thoughts.
"What are you all talking about?" Son Gohan approached, holding the Saiyan child in his arms.
The moment they got close, the Saiyan child wriggled free from the old man's arms and lunged straight at the golden, sizzling roasted meat dripping with oil on the rack. He didn't care how hot it was and bit into it with enthusiasm, his mouth quickly covered in grease.
"What's so great about that? So stupid," Jaco scoffed at the roasted meat. "Dr. Omori, I want milk and cheese."
"There's no such thing here. Can't you be a bit more polite?" Dr. Omori, being older, didn't like greasy food and ate very little.
"This is so boring! Three whole days..." Jaco sighed dramatically.
Dr. Omori said, "If you don't want to wait, why don't you just tell us what's going to happen in three days? What's so special about the full moon?"
"I've been emphasizing it from the start, haven't I?" Jaco glanced at the monkey-tailed boy, who had already devoured half of the roasted meat in no time. "You'll have to see with your own eyes."
Noticing that Yamiru wasn't as curious as the others, Jaco leaned in and poked him on the cheek, asking, "Hey, kid... don't tell me you actually know something about Saiyans?"
"?" Yamiru responded with a blank, exaggerated expression.
"Forget it." Jaco sat back down. Honestly, he didn't think an Earthling kid could know anything about Saiyans.
"Hey, I was just thinking," Tights changed the subject. "Jaco's spacecraft is pretty advanced, right? Grandpa Omori, if you could replicate its gravity-control device and sell it, wouldn't that easily cover the cost of the precious materials needed to repair Jaco's ship?"
Jaco: "Oh, right! That could work too!"
He hadn't considered it before, as anti-gravity flight technology was so basic in his world that he hadn't realized how advanced it would be on Earth.
Dr. Omori: "What nonsense. Gravity control isn't my area of expertise. I don't even understand the principles behind it. If I try to sell it, flaws will appear quickly, and there's a risk of it being identified as alien technology. Besides, I don't have the necessary research equipment. Even if I were to secretly sell the designs, I don't know of any trustworthy company... Uh, wait a second.".
Halfway through his sentence, Dr. Omori suddenly remembered the identity of the young woman speaking to him — she was the eldest daughter of the Capsule Corporation!
"Heh!" Tights blinked playfully, smiling. "Although I don't like troubling my family, in this case, there's no other choice."
Jaco: "Is Tights' family really rich?"
Yamiru: "Probably the richest on this planet... Maybe even all the wealth on Earth belongs to them."
Tights asked Yamiru, "Do we really have that much? I'm not too sure. My sister might know."
Yamiru: "That's just an exaggeration I made up on the spot."
Dr. Omori: "..."
Tights added, "But don't start treating me differently just because of my family's status, okay?"
Son Gohan chuckled, waving his hand dismissively. Nobody believed that this carefree old man would care much about material wealth or influential people.
Jaco agreed, "Of course not, Miss Tights!"
Tights: "..." She turned to Son Gohan. "Excuse me, is there a phone here?"
Son Gohan: "Nope."
Jaco: "What's a phone?"
Dr. Omori: "It's a communication tool used on Earth."
Jaco nodded in understanding and said, "The communication device on my spacecraft can connect to every communication network on Earth. If Tights wants to contact her family, she can use my device."
Tights hesitated. "But isn't your communication device broken?"
Jaco protested, "It's just the long-range functionality for contacting HQ that's down! For a small planet like Earth, it's perfectly fine!"
Dr. Omori muttered in irritation, "A small planet... Such an impolite alien."
Soon, with Jaco's guidance, Tights successfully contacted her family's home phone in West City. Returning with a smile, she said, "He agreed. He'll probably arrive by tomorrow morning."
Yamiru silently observed.
He didn't remind them that Dr. Brief and Bulma had already obtained gravity control technology from Jiora's spacecraft. Still, he figured that having technology from different alien sources might complement each other.
On another note... he glanced at the monkey-tailed boy lying on the ground, rolling around after overeating, and wondered, "Will Bulma come along too?"
Kakarot or Son Goku... Who would've thought a question that should've been nothing more than overthinking would actually become a real dilemma?
Yamiru felt a pang of bitterness and could only vent by gnawing on a piece of meat.
Kakarot damaged his head and became the innocent Son Goku. But... is that really the truth?
