Chapter 321 Easter Island Guardians
Daylight revealed the most stunning scenery Uriel could have imagined. Easter island was truly as beautiful as it was to be expected from a place that used to be filled with tourists before the arrival.
If a place like that was good for tourists back then, words couldn't describe what someone like Uriel, who always lived in a gray city, experienced when he saw the endless sea surrounding the soft hills of the island.
For a minute, he closed his eyes and wished his friends didn't disappear and pictured himself having fun by the beach with them. "Nika would be drinking cocktails, Medusa would act all shy in front of him while nagging at Sam for peeping on the locals while Luna, well, I think she would remain inside the zeppelin arguing that her research is more important." Uriel chuckled to himself.
But showing Easter Island's true beauty wasn't the only effect sunlight had, as it also allowed Uriel to see far and wide. The houses, the boats in the distance, everything was indeed abandoned, but that wasn't all.
In all the places where the Moai were supposed to be, there were none and Uriel started questioning himself if even someone like Jon Hunter had the resources to pull something like that.
"What on earth!?" Uriel gasped once he noticed the deep holes left behind by the stone sculptures and the drag marks that left deep furrows in the ground. He followed one of them and soon noticed it was heading west, back where he came from and where the zeppelin was landed.
Fearing that Jon hunter may be plotting to steal the Pegasus to transport the Moais back to the continent, Uriel finally summoned the Jaguar spirit and rushed back to the airport. There, he was greeted with the sign that read 'Mataveri airport' in english, which he thought was odd but soon dismissed it as the sudden realization finally hit him.
"Where is his ship? He must have come in a zeppelin, but only the Pegasus is landed here." Uriel spoke to himself as he looked around for any marks in the ground or broken asphalt, though there was nothing.
All the marks seemed to be near the beach, which prompted Uriel to head over to the pier where, at long last, he was finally able to see the Moai.
They were all near the beach, on a spot where the waves clashed against the rocks. There were so many of them Uriel couldn't count them at the distance, but then the strangest thing happened.
One of the waves that seemed way bigger than the rest clashed on the rocks, but instead of breaking into foam, a cryptid appeared from it. It was a strange beast with scales like a fish, but tentacles like a squid.
The cryptid attempted to venture inland, but it was stopped by something that looked like a huge rock golem.
"I can't believe it! The Moai aren't just stone heads, they're full human figures!" Uriel shouted in absolute amazement. Something like that was nothing short of deserving a masters degree or a book, though all Uriel could think about was to take out his smartphone and start recording.
Cryptids didn't show up on the camera and unfortunately moais didn't either, but that didn't make sense since they had been photographed many times over the years.
The only explanation Uriel could think of was that they couldn't appear in pictures while they were active and the reason they were able to be captured on camera before the arrival was that they were on standby.
"Hello folks, this is Uriel Sage and this is my vlog. I'm here on Easter Island, completely by myself it seems. There's quite a few mysteries I'd love to share, but the reason why I'm recording this right now is because I just found out that Moais aren't just stone heads. They are full antropomorphic figures.
Some look more like humans than others, some have more limbs and they're all different in size and appearance, but the most relevant piece of information is that they are currently fighting against a cryptid behind me.
"I know you can't see them, but I'm at a distance where the cryptid's FOD doesn't affect my device and I'm able to record this message. They're about 1 kilometer behind me, right by the beach and I just witnessed them fight against a cryptid that looked like the mix of a squid and a fish.
And when I say fight, I mean they completely destroyed it within seconds, not just that, I think they consumed its flux orb in order to repair themselves.
"My theory is that the moais are the guardians of this island, tasked with protecting its citizens and buildings.I will now go as close as possible to them and see if they are friendly, neutral or hostile towards me, but I'll keep the camera rolling as long as possible." With that, Uriel commanded the Jaguar spirit towards the beach, though that proved to be a grave mistake. All the stone statues turned to him and before he knew it, he was being surrounded by the lumbering sculptures. Because of their size, they moved way faster than he expected from such heavy looking creatures, and only then did Uriel realize his blunder.
"Crap! This cat is also a cryptid!" Uriel said as he rushed to cancel the summon, but it was too late.
A slim moai, with a head too big for it's lean frame, moved way faster than the rest and was able to land a well placed kick that sent him flying back at least thirty meters. It was the same as being run over by a truck, but the worst part was that they didn't stop.
The guardians of Easter Island weren't interested solely on the cryptid, they also showed hostility towards Uriel who couldn't even get on his feet before being stomped to death by the many stone sculptures that surrounded him.
