Extra's Perfect Ending
Chapter 67: Inqaries
The priests approach Theia and Hilda. Their bodies clenched as they got closer to the priest. At the last moment, she decided to stay put and have Theia prepare the turtle. The priest approaches the two ladies, and one of them steps up to the front
"Hello, miss Koshav"
Theia heaves a sigh of relief since they open with a conversation, at least they are not hostile.
"Hello, um..." She doesn't know what to call him. So she could only make an awkward expression.
"Call me Gon," The priest said with a smile "I just have something to ask you about."
The priest reaches into his robe and pulls out two pieces of paper, one has a drawing of an object inside and one of a person. Theia looks at the picture with cold sweat, one of thing things they show is exactly what they have.
A gun
When Reeva blackmails the blacksmith to get his hand on this thing, he has a few of them. Theia and Hilda have one each and Reeva has two. They also got a brief explanation of how to use it. Theia finds it quite simple when she only needs to point at things and press one button.
Theia could see why such a thing would be banned by the church. An era of mysticism would be over if everyone could have such a weapon in their hands. The body of a mystic at a low circle is still human, as long as they didn't coat themselves with mystic force this weapon would end them in seconds.
However, they didn't know Hilda and Theia had them.
Another paper that they showed was a picture of a man with messy hair. his body is not in good condition and his clothes were only there to cover his private parts, not to give him comfort.
This one, the girls aren't familiar with.
"Have you seen this object or this person before?"
Another priest asks with his voice echoing a bit. Hilda quickly deduces that it's a divination to detect lies.
"We haven't seen this person before"
Hilda answers for Theia since the girl doesn't have much experience in dealing with truth divination. After the priest receives the answer he nods his head to the other to confirm that it's the truth.
"What about this thing?"
The priest holds up a picture of a gun. And ask in a cold tone.
"I haven't seen anything exactly like this before"
She skirts around it, the picture is not an exact copy of the gun that they had with them. The result came out as True.
"Do you know something similar?" The priest catches on to the wording
"I saw something like it a while ago."
Hilda grits her teeth, the priest's question is getting closer and closer to finding out that she has one of these things.
"Where?"
"Around Grand Road building,"
She gives the location of their hotel in a roundabout way since the last time she saw the guns was when she was leaving to find her master. The priest looks at her then he nods.
"You're clear, thank you for your cooperation," Gon said with a bright smile on his face. "I'm sorry for the sudden inquiries, there's a person with a curse object running around and we need to find it before they could hurt someone. We advise you ladies to go back to your house. You ladies shouldn't be out here at night."
"We will consider it...." Hilda then gets a good idea "Um, have you seen my master? He was reported to be visiting the church"
Her idea is simple, if her master really went to the church, the priest must have seen him.
"Mister Koshav? I haven't seen him" Gon then turned to the back and asked the other priest "Have anyone seen Mister Koshav?"
One priest perked up with an answer, it was the same one that was guarding the stairs.
"Oh, I remember seeing him inside the church. He properly escaped when they were an explosion."
"Explosion?"
Theia also raises a question. Gon quickly fills in the information that the priest gives.
"There was an attack on the church, people were using curse items to cause an explosion. We are tracking them down."
That statement confuses both of the girls. If the story is true, only Reeva could have had the item, yet they were looking for a random homeless guy. Reeva must have done something to confuse the church.
"I think he was likely arriving late due to that," Gon said "The church has already sent everyone home and we can guarantee that no one was hurt in the attack, So he was most likely home by now."
"Thank you for your time"
"No worries," Gon said "And don't thank me, thank the lord for this fortunate encounter. Praise the sun!"
"Praise the sun!"
After they said their goodbye, the priest left in a hurry, following the clue that Hilda had given them. Leaving only Theia and Hilda alone on the road.
"They are not here, right?"
"They left a while ago. The church must have scared them"
They're of course talking about the two people that have been trailing them. Both of the hooded figures manage to slip off before the group of priests close in. Theia doesn't understand why, but she feels a deep sense of unease when they disappear.
"What do we do now? I believe brother is not the type to get held up this long"
Theia emphasizes the "Brother" in the sentence. It's been rolling off her tongue rather easily now after pretending for a long time.
"You don't have to say that when we are alone"
Hilda said with her usual cold tone.
"What do we do? Go back or go to the church?" Theia glosses over it.
"Let's go back to the hotel"
Hilda weighs her options and decides that it's time to trust her master since he would get himself into trouble.
Right?
Theia also agrees with the idea, with Reeva's tendencies, he doesn't like to take uncertain risks. There must have been some mishap and he got caught by the church somehow and ended up having to use his gun.
