Fairy Tail Destiny

Chapter 42: Ch 42 : Ragnarok

"What exactly happened during the Ragnarok back then?" After a moment of thought, Noel asked.

"Ragnarok, huh?" The Celestial Spirit King repeated the words before locking eyes with Noel, his tone solemn. "That was an unprecedented disaster—a catastrophe akin to a nightmare."

"...Was the cause the fall of the Goddess of the Night?" After a brief silence, Noel asked his second question.

The Celestial Spirit King gave Noel a surprised look. "I didn't expect you to know even this. However, you are mistaken on one point."

"Mistaken about what?"

"The fall of the Goddess of the Night was merely a catalyst—just the spark that ignited the flames. If it were only because of that, at most, it would have been a significant conflict, but it would never have led to a catastrophe like Ragnarok." The Celestial Spirit King sighed and explained to Noel.

"Then, what was the real cause?" A trace of urgency unknowingly crept into Noel's voice.

"I don't know either. In fact, halfway through that battle, even the God of Light and the God of Darkness had lost control of the situation. The Gods fought like madmen, endlessly slaughtering one another." The Celestial Spirit King's expression grew even heavier. "Do you know? Originally, this continent was at least ten times its current size. But in that battle, everything was destroyed—even nine-tenths of the land was forever submerged into the ocean due to the aftershocks of the war."

Noel's face changed slightly.

Though the Celestial Spirit King hadn't gone into detail, the mere fragments of information he revealed were enough for Noel to imagine just how terrifying that disaster must have been.

"Then… is there truly no clue at all?"

"There is not. However, before my father perished in that calamity, he once spoke a sentence that might be of use to you," the Celestial Spirit King said to Noel.

"What did he say?" Noel asked urgently.

"This world… no longer allows the existence of Gods." The Celestial Spirit King uttered each word with grave finality.

"This world... no longer allows the existence of gods..." Noel murmured, repeating the words.

He felt as if he were unimaginably close to the root of everything, yet a final, thin veil still blocked his path—an elusive barrier preventing him from grasping the key truth.

The Celestial Spirit King watched Noel deep in thought before speaking. "Then, it's my turn to ask a question, Noel."

"Hmm, go ahead." Noel, snapping out of his thoughts, looked at the Celestial Spirit King and answered calmly.

The Celestial Spirit King gazed into Noel's eyes and asked, "Can you tell me… how did you ascend to Godhood? Based on all the information I have, ever since Ragnarok, there have been no Gods left in this world."

Noel remained silent for a moment, his eyes fixed on the brilliant starry sky.

Then, in an icy tone, he spoke, "Celestial Spirit King, do you know the fate of those who, as mere mortals, dare to reach for a God's throne, who would defy all taboos and desecrate life itself?"

"..."

"That family... they were such a deranged clan. They dreamed of seizing a God's throne with their own hands... To achieve that, they dared to defy the laws of life itself… Even if it meant sacrificing everything," Noel said, running his hand over his right eye, his voice filled with both mockery and agony.

"If it had been only me... I wouldn't have cared, I truly wouldn't have... But they even— they even went that far... I hate them... I hate that insane clan… I hate how powerless I was... I am merely the product of their curse and despair... In the end, they perished by their own **... Killed by the very thing they sought so desperately.

How ironic is that? Hahaha… Hahahahahaha!"

Beneath the moonlit night, a golden-haired boy laughed.

But that laughter was filled with endless sorrow, mockery, pain, and hatred.

The next day, at the Fairy Tail guild.

"A Celestial Spirit? Loke?!" Natsu and Happy shouted in shock.

"Ah... that's right." Loke scratched the back of his head awkwardly.

After all, no matter how he looked at it, he had kept this secret from the guild for a long time.

Natsu looked Loke up and down, examining him before asking curiously, "But you're neither a bull nor a horse?"

"Virgo, whom you know, also appears in human form, doesn't she?" Loke replied with a smile.

Hearing that, Natsu shook his head. "Nope, that girl can also transform into a gorilla."

"Well… that's true." Loke nodded in agreement.

"Loke is the Celestial Spirit of Leo," Lucy explained to Natsu, then turned to Noel, who was sitting nearby. "Noel, you knew all along, didn't you? That Loke was a Celestial Spirit?"

"Yeah." Noel nodded. "This time, it's really thanks to you, Lucy."

"A lion? A grown-up cat? That's so cool!" Hearing Lucy's words, Happy looked at Loke with admiration.

"That's right." Loke nodded with a smile.

"Not at all!" Lucy couldn't help but correct them upon hearing their absurd logic.

"But Loke, is your body okay?" Noel asked as he looked at him. "You shouldn't have fully recovered yet, right? After all, you lost three years of life force."

"Well, I can't say I'm completely recovered yet, but I wanted to come and say hi to everyone. Also, I brought you guys something." With that, Loke reached into his pocket and pulled out a few tickets.

"What's this?" Noel asked in confusion as he took the tickets.

"They're tickets to the Paradise Hotel. I've received a lot of help, especially from you, Noel. These past two years must have been tough on you."

"I've never stayed in such a fancy hotel before!" Everyone immediately became excited.

"I also gave Erza a ticket just now. Let's all enjoy ourselves together," Loke said with a smile before vanishing back into the Celestial Spirit Realm.

"What are you all dawdling for? Do you want to be left behind?" Erza's voice suddenly rang out.

Everyone turned toward the source of the voice and saw Erza already dressed in a swimsuit with a lifebuoy and carrying an overwhelming amount of luggage.

"So impatient!"

Watching the lively scene, Noel chuckled softly.

Suddenly, Lucy turned to him and spoke.

"Noel…"

"Hm? What is it?"

"Noel, if… if because of my mistake, someone in our team got hurt or even lost their life, I think I would suffer just as much as Loke did. But… it should be fine, right? As long as we work together, no matter how big the crisis is, we'll be able to overcome it, right?"

"You're absolutely right," Noel replied with a smile.

"Yeah."

However, at that moment, when everyone was in high spirits, none of them could have foreseen that in the near future, the smiles on their faces would vanish amidst a dazzling light, leaving behind only the ever-flowing tears of regret and sorrow.
