Chapter 60: Ancher Set
In the final hours of the invasion, Shido, driven by sheer desperation, continued to send wave after wave of millions of zombies. His once-thriving undead Japanese empire had been reduced to a crumbling, frantic attempt to stop Six's forces from securing the anchor. But no matter how many undead he threw into the fray, Six's defenses were too formidable.
Six sent his Eyebots to scout the surroundings and received alarming news: several ships were approaching the airport, loaded with even more zombies. Shido was clearly mobilizing every last resource he had, hoping to overwhelm Six's forces in a last-ditch effort.
"Looks like he's pulling out all the stops."
Six muttered, analyzing the data from the Eyebots.
"Those ships are carrying more than just cannon fodder. He's betting everything on this."
Rebecca glanced at the data screen, her face set in determination.
"We can't let them reach the island. If even one of those ships docks, we'll be overrun."
Six nodded, quickly issuing commands to his forces.
"Prepare all anti-ship batteries. Focus the Vertibirds on the water. I want those ships destroyed before they get within striking distance."
The command center buzzed with activity as Six's droids, artillery, and Vertibirds mobilized for the next phase of the battle. The turrets on the island adjusted their angles, pointing toward the approaching ships. Anti-air and anti-ship missiles were prepped, and automated systems targeted the vessels moving across the water.
As the first of Shido's ships came into range, a barrage of missiles launched from the island's defenses. Explosions lit up the sky as the ships were hit, sending debris and bodies crashing into the water. But the sheer number of vessels meant that for every one destroyed, two more took its place. Shido was gambling everything on this final assault.
"Those ships are loaded with zombies."
Six remarked, watching as more explosions tore through the advancing fleet.
"If we don't take them all out, they'll swarm the island."
Rebecca narrowed her eyes, her hands flying over the controls.
"We need to be precise. Have the Vertibirds target the engines and fuel tanks. One well-placed shot can take out multiple ships in one go."
Six quickly relayed the orders. The Vertibirds, armed with precision weapons, swooped down over the ocean, launching their missiles at the weakest points of the ships. Explosions erupted in massive fireballs, and more ships sank beneath the waves, sending plumes of smoke and debris into the air.
Despite the destruction, more ships kept coming. The waters surrounding Tokonosu International Airport were now filled with wreckage and floating corpses, but the threat wasn't over. Shido had truly unleashed everything he had, and the remaining ships were rapidly closing in on the island.
Six grit his teeth.
"We can't afford to let them land."
But then, a new plan formed in his mind. He quickly accessed his settlement creation system, pulling up the blueprint for a massive defensive wall, lined with explosives and turrets.
"Rebecca, cover me while I build a perimeter wall."
Six said, tapping into the system to create a secondary line of defense along the shores of the airport.
Rebecca immediately adjusted the defensive systems, activating every available turret to focus on the incoming ships. As Six erected the massive wall using the settlement builder, the ships reached critical distance.
Moments later, they opened their cargo holds, and hordes of zombies began pouring into the water, swimming toward the island in a desperate attempt to reach the shore.
"They're still coming!"
Rebecca shouted.
"Let them try."
Six replied, his voice cold with determination.
"The second they hit the shore, they're toast."
As the zombies reached the perimeter wall of cement and steel, Six had just erected, a series of explosives detonated, creating a chain reaction that incinerated the undead in massive fireballs. Any that survived were quickly cut down by the combined firepower of the turrets and droids patrolling the wall.
Meanwhile, the last of Shido's ships were being systematically destroyed by the Vertibirds, leaving only a few stragglers drifting in the water.
Finally, after hours of relentless assault, the zombie forces began to dwindle. Shido's desperate push had failed. His gambit, a suicidal charge by sea, had been crushed before it could ever reach the island.
As the waters surrounding Tokonosu International Airport grew still, Six breathed a sigh of relief.
"That's the last of them."
Rebecca grinned, stepping away from the console.
"Looks like we won the battle."
Six nodded, glancing at the system timer. The invasion anchor would set in just a few minutes. Shido had thrown everything he had into this last attack, and now, all he could do was wait for the inevitable.
"Shido's reign ends today."
Six said quietly, watching the destruction unfold on the monitors.
With the threat neutralized and the anchor nearly complete, Six and Rebecca prepared for the final phase of their mission. Shido had nothing left. Victory was assured.
With the anchor permanently set to the High School of the Dead world, Six immediately shifted his forces into a defensive stance, preparing for the long haul. He sent his units to scavenge the remnants of the ships and any usable materials, meticulously storing everything in storage containers for future use.
The airport became a hive of activity as droids and automated systems worked tirelessly to process the salvaged materials.
The vault he constructed beneath the airport rapidly became a fully functioning production facility, manufacturing weapons, ammunition, droids, and automated T-45 power armors.
The switch to using laser and plasma weapons powered by Liquid Naquadah allowed Six to conserve his precious Origin Rounds, which were now reserved for only the most critical situations.
But despite all their preparations, the onslaught continued.
For days, the zombie horde seemed never-ending. Waves of undead relentlessly attacked the airport, trying to breach Six's defenses, but every attempt was met with overwhelming firepower from the laser and plasma turrets, battle droids, and the patrolling T-45s.
The entire island had become a fortress, and the zombies, despite their sheer numbers, stood no chance against the technology and strategy Six employed.
However, as the relentless assault continued, Six began to realize the true horror of Shido's plan. From what his unit scouts could gather, it appeared that Shido had turned the vast majority of the world's population into zombies.
His sick ambition was to keep only a select group of fanatical followers alive—those loyal to him, who would eventually repopulate the planet under his rule.
"He turned the entire world into a wasteland of the dead."
Rebecca said with disgust as she scanned reports from their Eyebots.
"He's not just a madman—he's completely delusional."
Six nodded, his expression hard.
"Shido's plan wasn't just about power. He wanted to rebuild this world in his twisted image, with him ruling over mindless undead slaves and fanatical followers. He's worse than Caesar or House ever are."
Rebecca smirked darkly.
"Well, we're not giving him that chance. Let's take out the rest of his loyalists and clean this place up. It's time to take full control."
In between waves of undead attacks, Six's forces began to systematically hunt down the remaining human followers of Shido. With Eyebots providing constant surveillance, the Vertibirds and droid forces identified the locations of Shido's loyalists across the country.
Over the next few days, they launched targeted strikes, eliminating these fanatics and preventing any chance of them rising up to rebuild Shido's twisted world.
Despite the constant pressure from the undead, Six's forces remained steadfast. The airport defenses held strong, and the newly produced droids and T-45 power armors kept the zombies from overwhelming the settlement. The Liquid Naquadah-powered laser and plasma weapons proved incredibly effective, cutting down the hordes with ease while conserving resources for long-term survival.
Days turned into weeks, and the once-constant attacks began to dwindle. With Shido's living loyalists being eliminated, the zombie horde had been cut off from fast transportation, mindlessly wandering to the airport location. Six knew it would take time to fully rid the world of the undead.
Six and Rebecca stood atop the airport tower, surveying the seemingly endless horde of zombies still shambling toward their fortress from every corner of the world. Shido's insanity had condemned the entire population to this fate, and with over 7 billion zombies now scattered across the planet, Six knew the path ahead would be long and grueling.
"Looks like the whole world's coming for us."
Rebecca said, her voice laced with a mixture of determination and frustration.
"How long do you think it'll take to clear all of them out?"
Six crossed his arms, scanning the horizon.
"Months, maybe years. But we've already got the infrastructure in place. We'll keep churning out droids and automated weapons, establish supply lines, and eventually we'll push them back."
Rebecca nodded, her expression hard.
"And what about Shido?"
"We deal with the zombies first."
Six replied, his tone firm.
"Shido's been hiding, sending wave after wave of his undead. Once his army is wiped out, he won't have anything left to throw at us. We'll deal with him last, on our terms."
As they stood there, the airport's defenses continued their relentless work, cutting down the advancing zombies with precision. The laser turrets and plasma weapons powered by Liquid Naquadah proved more than capable of handling the masses, but with billions of undead to deal with, this war would be a battle of attrition. Fortunately, Six was prepared for that.
Over the following weeks, Six began implementing a more aggressive strategy. He sent out scouting teams of Eyebots and Vertibirds to map out the densest concentrations of zombies, focusing on major cities and towns across Japan and beyond. His battle droids and T-45 power armor units were sent on long-range operations, systematically clearing out the undead and securing key locations.
Meanwhile, Six expanded his vault under the airport, turning it into a fully automated production center. It churned out endless waves of battle droids, vehicles, and new T-45 suits, all equipped with laser and plasma weapons. With these resources, he started to retake the world one piece at a time.
Rebecca, ever the warrior, led strike teams into the heart of zombie-infested regions, taking down hordes and gaining more ground for their forces. As they cleared the undead, they also began securing resources—fuel, metals, and tech—anything that could be repurposed for the rebuilding process.
Throughout all of this, Shido kept sending more and more zombies, seemingly oblivious to the futility of his efforts. Every wave was met with devastating firepower and precise strikes, wearing down his numbers.
Eventually, with the population of undead steadily decreasing, Six began to shift his focus toward rebuilding. He planned to use the G.E.C.K. to purify the land, transforming it back into fertile soil, much like he had done in Goodsprings. The world of Highschool of the Dead would rise from its ashes.
But first, there was one final loose end to tie up—Shido himself. He had been hiding in the shadows, content to let his zombie army do the fighting. But with his forces nearly exhausted, his time was running out.
Six smirked as he turned to Rebecca.
"Once we finish clearing the hordes, we're going after him."
Rebecca cracked her knuckles, a fierce grin spreading across her face.
"Can't wait."
Together, they would rebuild this world. And once Shido was dealt with, Six's reign over this dimension would be undisputed. The Highschool of the Dead world had been ravaged by chaos, but under Six's control, it would be brought back from the brink—stronger, more fortified, and ready for a new beginning.
