Chapter 29: Chapter 28: Lev Appears, the 64th Demon God Pillar
Amidst the lingering tension, the sound of clapping echoed through the dark cavern, growing closer with each passing second.
Ryuu instinctively gripped Rebellion, fully aware that the true mastermind behind Artoria's corruption was finally making his move.
Mash and Artoria immediately took a defensive stance, ready for any sudden attack.
Meanwhile, Olga Marie's breath hitched as she looked up—her eyes widening in disbelief as a familiar figure emerged from the shadows.
"Oh? You actually managed to accomplish this much? Truly unexpected. You've deviated from the plan far beyond my tolerance, 48th Master."
"You're... Professor Lev?"
"Professor Lev?! Did you also Rayshift like the Director?"
The first thought that crossed Chaldea's minds was that Lev had somehow traveled to this Singularity just like them.
In Olga's heart, Lev Lainur Flauros had always been a pillar of Chaldea—a guiding figure since her father, Marisbilly Animusfia, first became its director.
When she saw him, a weight lifted off her chest, her previous tension fading into relief.
"Lev! Thank goodness, you're still alive! If it weren't for you—"
"Idiot! Don't go near him!"
Ryuu grabbed Olga's arm, stopping her just before she could rush forward.
He had no interest in interfering with Chaldea's internal matters—but after learning what had happened to Artoria, his hatred for Lev had only deepened.
"Let go of me! He's Lev! Lev!"
"I'm sorry, Director, but while I hate to ruin your happy reunion... this man gave me the Holy Grail."
"What...?"
The color drained from Olga's face.
"That's impossible! What nonsense are you—how could Lev—"
Lev's laughter cut through the cavern, sending shivers down everyone's spine.
"Still as naive as ever, Olga!"
"Professor Lev, this must be a mistake! Why would you—?"
"Mistake? Heh, no. If anything, it's your survival that was the mistake."
Lev's tone darkened, his amusement unwavering.
"I had placed a bomb right at your feet, yet here you are—alive. That is what truly irritates me."
The room fell silent.
Olga's entire body trembled as her eyes lost their light, the reality of Lev's words sinking in.
But Lev wasn't done yet. A cruel smile played on his lips as he continued:
"No, it's not that you survived… You're already dead, Olga."
A sharp gasp escaped Mash and Ritsuka.
"You... what do you mean?" Olga whispered, her voice barely audible.
"You never had the qualifications for Rayshifting in the first place. You lacked the aptitude when you were alive. The reason you're standing here now is simple—you died. That's why you were able to be transferred here at all."
The weight of his words crushed her.
"Once you return to Chaldea… your consciousness will vanish."
"N-No..."
Ritsuka shook his head violently.
"The Director... will die? No way, that's—"
Lev smirked but didn't bother elaborating further. Instead, he turned toward Ryuu, who had already positioned himself for battle.
"Now then, Demon King Ryuu. I've seen all of your fights—your power is impressive. Why don't you join me? I can grant you an audience with my lord, Solomon."
Ryuu scoffed, eyes burning with contempt.
"You expect a Demon King to kneel? What a joke. You're just a Demon God Pillar—if you want to talk to me, send Solomon himself."
Lev sighed theatrically.
"So that's a no? What a shame. Then, I'll have to erase you along with the rest of humanity."
"Try me, bastard!"
Ryuu wasn't one for lengthy conversations with the enemy—especially not one who had manipulated an entire timeline.
He already knew Lev's true identity: Demon God Pillar Flauros, the Sixty-Fourth Pillar of Solomon.
A flicker of surprise crossed Lev's expression.
"Oh? You figured that out fast."
With a snap of his fingers, the ground beneath them trembled violently.
Ryuu yanked Olga back, dragging her toward Ritsuka and Mash before releasing her.
"If you want to cry about your Professor, do it after we kill this bastard," he muttered coldly.
Without hesitation, Artoria lunged forward, her holy sword blazing with corrupt energy.
"EX—CALIBUR MORGAN!"
A torrent of pure darkness surged toward Lev.
He remained unfazed.
"Pathetic."
A translucent barrier formed around him, nullifying the blast entirely.
Seeing this, Ryuu shot forward, his Rebellion glowing with crimson energy. The moment he got close, his Geass activated—red sigils spinning violently in his left eye.
"In the name of the Demon King—Lev Lainur Flauros, die!"
A red-winged sigil shot from Ryuu's eye into Lev's.
For a brief moment, Lev's body stiffened. His own hands moved against him, driving straight into his chest.
With a sickening crunch, his fingers tore through his ribs—piercing his own heart.
For a fleeting moment, Ryuu thought he had won.
Then, Lev laughed.
"Hahahaha! Is that all?"
Ryuu's eyes widened as an unseen force slammed into him, sending him crashing into the cavern wall.
Blood trickled from his mouth.
"Shit... I should've known. His will is too strong for Geass to control."
Mash rushed to his side.
"Mr. Ryuu! Are you alright?"
"Cough... Yeah, just pissed off."
As Ryuu wiped the blood from his lips, Lev turned to Artoria, his expression one of mild amusement.
"To think you'd betray us after being given the Holy Grail. Truly disappointing."
"My sword exists only for my Master," Artoria declared, her grip tightening on Excalibur Morgan.
"Such a shame. Even with a physical body, you're no match for me."
From the ground, grotesque black tentacles emerged, writhing with glowing red eyes.
Artoria dodged swiftly, striking back with her holy sword—yet no matter how many times she slashed, the tendrils remained unharmed.
Watching the battle unfold, Ryuu clenched his fists.
"Dammit... our attacks aren't doing shit to him."
Lev was at a completely different level. His true power far surpassed anything they had encountered before.
Ryuu could already tell—this was an opponent that couldn't be defeated through sheer force alone.
Lev sighed, brushing imaginary dust from his shoulder.
"Unfortunately, I'm out of time. I had hoped to entertain you all a bit longer, but I suppose we'll meet again soon."
The cavern trembled violently as reality itself seemed to distort.
With a smirk, Lev took a step back into the shadows.
"Allow me to introduce myself properly… I am Lev Lainur Flauros, head of the 2016 Human Incineration Plan. My lord and I will be watching your struggle with great interest."
Ryuu's eyes narrowed and with a sarcastic tone, he said:
"Yeah? Well, let me introduce myself too. I'm Ryuu—from 2022.
And in my timeline, humanity is still standing."
Lev paused for a split second—before vanishing completely into the void.
The cavern finally stabilized, leaving only an eerie silence behind.
For now, the battle was over.
But war… had only just begun.
