Chapter 440: Killing Void Devourer
A piercing screech filled the battlefield. It was not just a cry of pain, but a sound that struck deep into the soul, full of suffering and despair.
The spear had pierced the dragonfly's chest. However, its momentum did not stop—it seemed to be eroding the creature's laws and soul from within.
From a distance, Lein observed carefully. Veyron remained still, his hands pressed together, continuously channeling energy into the spear embedded in the creature's body.
This battle had now turned into a clash of pure energy and spatial law. If Veyron could exhaust the dark energy of the giant dragonfly before its spatial law reactivated, victory would be theirs.
"Ugh…"
Veyron let out a faint groan. His energy was depleting rapidly, his body slightly trembling. Lein could sense that the man was reaching his limit.
But before things could take a turn for the worse, a green light shone behind Veyron.
Tauriel appeared silently, raising both hands with a graceful motion. A surge of green energy flowed into Veyron's body, rapidly restoring his vitality.
Lein was slightly surprised.
He had always suspected that Tauriel possessed hidden abilities, and now his suspicions were confirmed. That green energy flow was not just ordinary healing—it was pure energy resonating with the laws of life.
Veyron regained his vitality in an instant. His previously ragged breaths stabilized, and he immediately channeled immense energy into the time-space spear still embedded in the cosmic dragonfly's chest. Golden light swirled around the spear, piercing through the massive creature's body without any sign of slowing down.
From a distance, Lein and the others watched intently. No one dared to look away. Their only hope rested on that spear—to destroy the monstrous being that had become a grave threat.
A few seconds later, their hopes became reality.
Ssss…
Like mist dissolving in the wind, the cosmic dragonfly's body gradually turned transparent. The black energy that once shrouded it faded, and in the next moment—
Braaak!
Veyron's spear shot through the creature's physical form, piercing the void unhindered. A silent explosion shook the space as if the very laws that bound the creature's existence unraveled in an instant.
Veyron released his energy flow, his shoulders trembling slightly from exhaustion. He took a deep breath and turned around. Tauriel stood behind him, her face glistening with sweat, yet her gaze remained calm.
"Thank you, Lady. I am indebted to you," Veyron said sincerely. He knew that without Tauriel's help, he might have run out of energy before he could finish the battle.
Tauriel gave a small smile. "It's no big deal, Lord Veyron," she said casually. "I am Tauriel, from the Silent Forest Realm."
Veyron nodded, committing her name to memory. However, his gaze quickly shifted to the lifeless corpse of the cosmic dragonfly, now floating in the void.
Lein stepped closer with the others. At first glance, the creature's body still looked the same as before—large, intimidating, and seemingly full of vitality. But something was different. It was empty. No life aura. No sign of consciousness.
Hagar was the first to break the silence. "Veyron, with this… our mission is complete!" he exclaimed excitedly.
Kael, standing beside him, let out a long sigh. "Finally…"
Veyron turned to them and gave a slight bow of respect. "Thank you very much, Lord Hagar, Lord Kael," he said with genuine appreciation in his voice.
Without further ado, he pulled out a blue cube from his storage space. With practiced movements, he directed it toward the giant dragonfly's corpse. A bright light emanated from the object, slowly enveloping the creature's body. Lein watched closely as the entire corpse was absorbed into the cube, as if swallowed by a higher spatial law.
Once the process was complete, the cube shrank back to its original size and rested in Veyron's grip.
"Amazing…" he muttered softly, gazing at the object in his hand with satisfaction. Without hesitation, he stored it in his personal spatial ring.
Veyron then turned, his eyes settling on Lein and the others. "Lord Lein," he said sincerely, "I am deeply grateful for your assistance."
Lein observed the young man with curiosity. From his expression, it was clear that Veyron had a significant purpose for the cosmic creature's corpse.
A thought crossed Lein's mind.
"Did the corpse drop a Cosmic Core?"
He wanted to ask but held himself back. There was something in Veyron's gaze that made him hesitate. Perhaps this wasn't the right time to bring it up.
For now, Lein chose to remain silent.
Veyron waved a hand as if dismissing the matter. "We just happened to be passing by, Lord. This isn't something that needs to be exaggerated," he said casually. Aleron and Tauriel beside him also nodded, showing that they had no issue with it.
Seeing their relaxed response, Veyron nodded lightly before speaking again. "Well then, if there's nothing else, let's head back." His tone made it clear that he wanted to wrap things up quickly.
Lein and the others exchanged glances before finally agreeing. Without further discussion, they turned and made their way back to Lein's space vessel, while Veyron moved toward his own ship with his companions.
During the journey, Lein finally voiced the question that had been bothering him. He turned to Aleron. "Lord Aleron, Lady Tauriel, did the Void Devour corpse drop a Cosmic Core?" he asked directly, making no effort to hide his suspicion.
Aleron glanced at him briefly and shrugged, as if the question was nothing unusual. "Yes… of course," he replied flatly.
Lein frowned. "Then why didn't you tell me from the start?" His tone carried a hint of irritation.
Aleron looked at him with a confused expression. "What do you mean, Lord? That was a Boss-tier cosmic creature. It's extremely rare to encounter one, let alone hunt it," he explained. "Moreover, its level was at King Tier 4. Not everyone gets such an opportunity."
Lein absorbed the information, but his mind was still filled with questions. If it was so difficult to find, shouldn't they have been more cautious from the beginning?
Tauriel, who had been listening quietly, finally spoke up. "The creature we were initially searching for, the one Aleron was trying to track, was a much easier target. It was a weakened monster nearing the end of its lifespan, making it simpler to defeat."
Lein remained silent, but his expression showed that he was beginning to understand the situation. Tauriel continued, "To defeat a Boss-tier monster like the Void Devour, you need a space vessel with high firepower and someone with a deep understanding of laws. Otherwise, even if we fought for thousands of years, it wouldn't die."
Aleron added with a serious tone, "The two people assisting Lord Veyron earlier were hunters hired from the Cosmic Hunter Association. Their job was to support Veyron so he could remain focused in battle."
Lein slowly nodded, processing the information.
Tauriel then gave a faint smile. "Also, the space vessel you saw earlier wasn't privately owned—it was a rental ship from a space vessel company."
Lein narrowed his eyes slightly. Now, the bigger picture was starting to form in his mind.
"In short, within the Dominion, you can't survive alone. Even to reach King Tier 9 strength, you need the help of many people," Tauriel said calmly. "One of those things is having a mentor to guide you when studying laws."
Lein listened without interrupting. Every word that left Tauriel's mouth seemed to add weight to his thoughts. This information didn't just surprise him—it made him realize something crucial. The path to ultimate power wasn't just about fighting and gathering resources, but also about building the right relationships.
