Chapter 71: Chapter 69: The Great Candy Heist...
Minerva immediately noticed the reluctant expression on Leo's face as he read the letter.
A flicker of annoyance crossed his features, making her panic inside.
Flashback…
She had heard the rumors.
Moody, along with two Aurors, had arrived at Hogwarts, carrying an unconscious, severely injured Dumbledore—bleeding from what seemed like every pore in his body.
A worried Hagrid had trailed behind them, his face twisted in concern.
The young and ambitious Hogwarts nurse, Poppy Pomfrey, had eagerly stepped forward, determined to prove her expertise.
After a thorough diagnosis, she announced:
"Severe magical backlash caused by a powerful Occlumency defense."
The professors visiting the hospital wing had been stunned.
Poppy had wasted no time, swiftly mixing herbs and potions, forcing them down Dumbledore's throat to stabilize him.
It wasn't long before Minerva learned the full story from a defeated Moody.
Dumbledore had tried to read Leo's mind—
And suffered a devastating backlash in return.
Minerva had been deeply dissatisfied with the reckless approach the headmaster had taken.
Legilimency without consent was a serious offense, one that had historically sparked deadly duels throughout wizarding history.
And now, because of Dumbledore's blunder, things had become awkward between her and Leo.
She had genuinely enjoyed her conversations with him.
Over the past few weeks, she had frequently taken new students shopping and had made it a point to visit Leo regularly.
Their chats had become something she looked forward to, a refreshing escape from her never-ending duties.
And now…
The old fool had ruined everything.
Frustration etched deep into her features, she had decided to teach Dumbledore a lesson.
With the help of Phineas Nigellus Black, the former headmaster's portrait, Minerva had systematically raided Dumbledore's entire candy stash in his office.
For some unknown reason, Phineas had thoroughly enjoyed watching Dumbledore's desperation, eagerly guiding Minerva to every hidden compartment and secret stash.
Minerva had raised a skeptical eyebrow at Phineas's smug expression.
Was this revenge for something?
She didn't know.
She didn't particularly care either.
With merciless efficiency, she had confiscated every last sweet—all in the name of healthcare, of course.
When Dumbledore finally regained consciousness, he found himself tied to the hospital bed, magically bound by Poppy Pomfrey's enchanted ropes.
The stern nurse had glaringly informed him that if he so much as tried to break free, she would resign immediately and return to St. Mungo's.
Dumbledore, utterly helpless, had watched as the professors left the hospital wing.
Then—
Silence.
Minutes passed.
Then, suddenly—
"Minerva, this is too cruel..."
His voice was a whisper of pure suffering.
"All I wanted was peace… damn… my hands are itchy—I need… I need just one handful of Cockroach Clusters."
His right palm twitched, trembling like an addict in withdrawal.
He swallowed.
The craving was unbearable.
Flashback Ends…
Minerva blinked, snapping back to reality as she continued to watch Leo's expression.
'Damn you, Albus. This was going to be awkward.'
Even though Minerva was nervous inside, she maintained her calm composure.
She silently waited for Leo's answer, wanting to see his reaction before deciding on the right approach to address the earlier matter regarding Dumbledore.
Sigh~
"Minerva, I..."
[ Ding... ]
Just as Leo was about to reject the offer for the Defense Against the Dark Arts (DADA) professor position, he was suddenly interrupted by a familiar sound—
The system notification.
[ System Task: First Step to Light ]
[ Task Description:
Host has been offered the opportunity to become the DADA professor at Hogwarts.
Use this opportunity to take the first step to fool—cough— I mean, inspire students to become better witches and wizards and eventually worship you as their idol.
Task Reward:
DADA Knowledge Pack (Covers only the Hogwarts syllabus), Lucky Charm x1 ]
Leo fell silent.
His eyes narrowed, as he began weighing the pros and cons of accepting the position.
Sure, the full syllabus knowledge of DADA was tempting, but the hassle of becoming a professor was no small matter.
Unlike the system, which merely issued tasks, the final decision was always his.
Would this truly be worth it?
The entire shop grew eerily quiet—the only sound was Delphini giggling as she played with the Puffskeins before her.
The others could sense the heavy atmosphere, watching as Leo stared at the letter in deep thought.
Sigh~
"Leo... I know you don't have a good impression of Headmaster Dumbledore,"
Minerva finally spoke, her tone heavy with guilt.
"But believe me, he is just an old man who only wishes for peace. I sincerely apologize for what he tried to do to you. I hope that incident won't affect your decision."
Her words held a sense of genuine regret.
Raising an eyebrow, Hagoromo Gitsune—who had been observing in silence—casually took the letter from Leo's hand and read it, curious about its contents.
After a brief silence, Leo finally spoke.
"I accept the offer. But..."
His serious tone caught Minerva's full attention.
Her eyes brightened, but when he suddenly paused mid-sentence, her nervousness returned.
"But what?"
she asked, her voice laced with anticipation.
"I have business to run,"
Leo stated plainly.
"And I will have even more in the future. My presence at Hogwarts will not be consistent."
After a brief pause, he made it clear—he would often be absent due to his responsibilities elsewhere.
Haha~
Minerva suddenly let out a small laugh and immediately accepted his condition.
Leo, now visibly confused, looked at her with a frown.
He had just stated outright that he wouldn't always be available, so why was she so relaxed about it?
Cough~
"You know what? Let me tell you a secret, Leo,"
Minerva said with a small smirk.
"Our dear Headmaster Dumbledore? He goes missing for months at a time—no one even questions it anymore."
"Our Potions professor, Horace Slughorn? He spends most of his time outside Hogwarts—except for when he has to teach his classes."
"And our Care of Magical Creatures professor, Silvanus Kettleburn? He spends more time in St. Mungo's Hospital than he does with his magical creatures!"
She ended with a frustrated sigh, but Leo could tell there was also a hint of amusement in her tone.
"...."
Leo stared at her, his expression completely deadpan.
He had underestimated just how ridiculous the Hogwarts staff truly were.
For a moment, he seriously reconsidered his decision.
While listening to Minerva's words, Leo quietly wrote a letter and sealed it with the Morningstar family crest—a bright star, shining even in this world.
Taking an owl, he fed it a few treats, then handed over the letter for delivery.
The owl happily accepted the letter, grasping it in its beak before soaring out of the shop.
By sheer coincidence, the door swung open at that very moment, revealing Eileen, who had just entered the shop along with others.
However, as soon as they stepped inside, they were caught off guard—
A new staircase had suddenly appeared out of nowhere in the shop.
The group exchanged puzzled glances before cautiously walking up the stairs.
When they reached the upper floor, they were met with an astonishing sight—
The entire level had been transformed into a pet store.
There, standing among a few browsing customers, were Leo, Kejoro, and Hagoromo Gitsune.
Although Eileen had many questions, she chose to hold back for now—after all, Leo was currently attending to customers.
However, when she overheard that Leo had accepted the position as Hogwarts' Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, she was visibly stunned.
Since she was here to shop for Delphini, Eileen decided to take the young girl downstairs to the potions section to buy supplies.
Excited about shopping, Delphini eagerly followed her, clutching a few Galleons given to her by her parents.
Earlier that day, her family had visited Gringotts and exchanged Pounds for Galleons in preparation for her upcoming Hogwarts term.
With the young witch gone, the parents finally broke their silence.
Turning to Leo, they began asking serious questions—
What should non-magical humans do if confronted by a Dark wizard?
Is there a way to file a complaint, similar to how the Muggle police work?
What legal procedures exist for Muggles in the wizarding world?
How are the job opportunities here?
And most importantly—
what was Leo's opinion on Voldemort, the biological father of their daughter?
With his usual polite smile, Leo answered each question, explaining the intricacies of the magical world while the parents listened attentively.
Meanwhile, Minerva and Filius stood nearby, their expressions carrying a bitter smile.
They weren't offended by the parents' concerns—instead, they felt frustration at their own helplessness.
How absurd was it that Muggle-born children could enter their world, yet their parents were left clueless about the dangers?
Soon after, Delphini returned upstairs, her arms swinging freely while a floating package filled with her purchased crucible, herbs, and other supplies hovered behind her.
Eileen followed closely behind, her gentle smile never fading.
With a flick of her wrist, she guided the levitating package forward—it was her doing, after all.
Having purchased the necessary potions supplies, Minerva and Filius prepared to escort Delphini and her parents to Ollivanders to buy her first wand.
Just as they were about to leave, a small tug on Louise's dress stopped them.
"Mom... I want one."
Louise turned to see Delphini pointing at the Puffskein section, her big, twinkling eyes filled with hopeful excitement.
The small, fluffy creatures wiggled playfully in their enclosure, letting out soft, contented purring sounds.
Louise hesitated.
"But, sweetheart..."
she began, trying to reason with her daughter.
"We still have many things left to buy, and we don't know if the wizarding currency we exchanged will be enough for everything on your school list."
She held up the parchment with the Hogwarts acceptance letter, pointing to the list of required books, robes, and cauldron supplies.
However, one look at Delphini's pleading expression—those big, hopeful eyes, that slight pout—and Louise sighed in defeat.
With a reluctant nod, she purchased a fluffy pink Puffskein, handing over a few Galleons.
Standing behind the counter, Leo's smile widened as he gladly accepted the payment, handing Delphini her new pet.
The young witch squealed in delight, hugging the soft creature close to her chest as it purred happily in response.
