Chapter 32: LexCorp...Final hours of the Beta
"Secretary, I want you to call all of the marketing department, have them meet me in the board room within half an hour."
"Yes, Mr Luther."
The woman rapidly fled the room as the well-groomed, pompously dressed form of the CEO of LexCorp looked out over Metropolis. Light glimmered softly off of his bald head as his angular jaw was set in an expression of consternation.
His day, like many others, had started well. Breakfast had been delightful, the desert even sweeter, but alas, all good things must come to an end. The beta for a game he had been tracking for days had finally began... And it was more threatening than he had first assumed.
*Beep* *Beep*
A phone rang beside his bed, resting upon a beautiful décor piece that was bought from some auction in the past. It rang out once more before he decided to walk over and take a look. No name was given to the number, but the number was familiar to him... One sourced from the Senate of the USA.
Scowling a touch, he tapped to accept and swung the phone up to his right ear.
"Who is this...?"
"Mr Luther, I am sorry to annoy you... But I wanted to hear your, proposal, for what should be done about this 'game'."
Luther growled slightly in his throat as the wheezily voice of one boot-licking politician slithered out from his phone directly into his eardrums. The sensation was akin to sinking oneself into oil, from head to toe... All from one sentence spoken by this man. Luther blinked slowly as if attempting to control his temper.
"Well, although it was none of your business to call me... I am, gladdened, that you would consider my perspective."
"Of course... Such an insight would, require payment to be considered..."
Luther covered his phone to the point the senator couldn't hear anything.
"Easily manipulated scum..."
He uncovered the phone calmly, slowly, only to hear the oily slick voice of the man anxiously asking if he was still there.
"Understandable, senator. My suggestion would be to question the legality of bringing people from our world into a virtual one with unknown means. There could be, ethical problems, or, medical complications... IF, you understand what I am laying down."
A sickly laugh resounded through the phone-speakers as Luther's secretary stepped in once again, quietly waiting for him to finish his conversation.
"Naturally, Mr Luther! Payment would be... Let's say, $20,000,000?"
"Oh? This has only been a small consultation, senator, don't you think your a touch off of the true amount that should be payed...?" A tense cough echoed through before some small scratching mutters flowed through.
"It is always, beneficial, to receive your advice Mr Luther. Perhaps... $10,000,000?"
"Tsk, $5,000,000 is all you will get... Any more and we shall cut off all connection with your campaign in the next election cycle."
"Ahhhh, YES! Yes I'll take that deal... It is goo-"
Luther hung the phone up and sighed deeply. His morning was ruined by this viper and the only turning point was the beautiful visage of his secretary who was wearing dignified but clinging clothing at the doorway entrance to his penthouse.
"Lucy?
"Mr Luther, the marketing department has been called to the board room, they are waiting for you."
"Thank you, Lucy."
As he passed her, his hand seized a firm hold of her behind, lingering just long enough to make it clear it was no accident. Her cheeks flushed, her posture faltering for the briefest moment before she scrambled to follow him. He didn't so much as glance back, his hand already falling to his side as if dismissing her entirely. When he shoved the double doors open, they swung back sharply, forcing her to sidestep with a sharp intake of breath to avoid being hit. Luthor strode forward without a word, utterly indifferent to her presence.
"M-Mr Luther...?"
He continued to move forwards, his pace unchanging.
...
The final hours of the Beta were upon us now and I was excitedly nervous. I had had time to reflect on my goals, on my ideals. Realism had to connect with the motives I wanted to run from. Thus, power could never be fully ignored. Power was essential to dodge issues with the government and other businesses. Working with certain people was essential to survival of my plans.
I needed people I could trust to work for me. Staff to aid me expand the business. Additionally, there would need to be a distinction between the brain of the company and the working wing of it...
Not hiring American citizens was a bad call and would call into doubt our financials. It would also cause investigations by the FBI, CIA and IRS into the origin of my money and identity, more so than they already were trying.
The secret of my identity needed to be maintained, but the company needed some level of transparency. Thus, my summons would make the 'brains' of the operation with normal every day people being hired into low positions as menial workers or distributors. My plan currently was to expand the company into the computer industry and produce world altering hardware that could enhance the gaming industry's productiveness.
BUT, first of all, was the need for employees for running the company. For that, I would want a group of people...

I didn't even need to search deeper... I had found an amazing deal straight up. The Uchiha clan was amazing. The distinction, 'Starter Level', was strange to me. That inquiry was answered however as the System explained deeply the structure of this purchase.
[ 'Starter Level' Indicated a power level for a clan/group. In this case, for the Uchiha clan, this would imply that the Uchiha clan you are purchasing is limited to the Base Sharingan, Basic Ninja Skills and their Fire Jutsus.]
[This 'level' can be invested into further at any point in time. Essentially, you will be able to dictate an ability you want them to have from their list of already existing abilities, in lore, and purchase it for them all... However, the cost will lower if you single out specific members of the clan.]
[New abilities can be taught to them, or gained by them. But these cannot be forced into them by purchases and need to be gained in the reality they are joining.]
'Wait, so that means I can upgrade them to Madara's level or Sasuke's?'
[Yes, with points, anything is possible]
[Points: 280,224,110]
I stopped as I was close to clicking on the button to purchase the clan... Last time I did this, it was spur of the moment. This time, I needed to be more prepared, better setup and much more ready for the potential issues. Not to mention that I'd need identities for them all and the buildings to house them all in.
Preparation was my friend... Unfortunate though, that this was a daily special... Time was not something I had. I would need Picard's help and Susan's...
"Picard? Susan?"
Both of those mentioned looked over at me, their monitoring of the entire beta fading out of focus as they answered me.
"Yes Freya?" Picard slowly intoned his question into his words, caution lining said tone.
"Freya?" Susan was more curious than anything else.
"I need both of your help."
There was a pause.
"Picard, could you purchase two mansions near here?" Turning to meet his gaze I noticed the questioning in his expression. His forehead was creased in thought as the blue eyes of his narrowed in analysation.
"Are, you, bringing more here?"
I simply nodded in relation to his query, his face tightening even more in dislike of this power.
"Before I accept this, are you sure that this is the best way forwards?"
"Yes. We need power enough to protect ourselves, we need a trustworthy workforce for the brains of the company. I need to think realistically, and more manpower will aid me in that venture as it frees me up from concerning myself about micro issues, to concerning myself with macro issues."
"Very well, I'll take your card and go purchase two more mansions." He didn't argue much this time, simply walking forwards and holding his hand out. I trusted him to do as he was asked, our burgeoning friendship already being strong enough for me to believe he will do something when he says he will.
"Thank you." He nodded and walked off calmly.
"You are welcome, I hope this aids us both though."
He left the room whilst Susan was looking at me with heavy interest... It seemed she saw me as an enigma, further enhanced by the company I had invited today. Her eyes were latched onto the shadows that covered my face still. She knew that it was a mutation, I could sense her nervousness, or more aptly, her concern; through the slight leads that my psychic powers gave me in that area.
"Susan. I will explain things soon, when I have come to know you for more than a week. When I know that I can trust you fully. For now, could you please contact the builders and get them to come back here and complete the HQ's refurbishments, book it from tomorrow onwards."
"Sure! I hope that I can earn your trust." She pulled out her phone and began to call the construction company, my own attentions panning back to the Beta test... Where we were only an hour or so away from the end.
'This was a successful Beta. Now I just need to speak with Bruce Wayne and Tony stark, perhaps establish some good will to spread company influence into Gotham and California, piggybacking off of them to start with.'
My experience for business was kicking in... With their help I could do so much and connect with so many people that Yggdrasil Interactive could quickly become very influential to America. Politics wasn't my main focus, but not having any power would be dumb... I saw that now, after my panic attack.
"Freya, the construction company said they'll need to quote it first, they'll be here in an hour and then you can talk through the cost with them."
"Thanks Susan. How about you take a break? It'll be a payed break, I just need a little time to think by myself."
She smiled widely and walked out of the space, closing the doors behind her as I watched over the real bodies of the beta players. My telekinesis could even feel Bruce Wayne's little security measure... Not needed but surely in line with his night-time persona.
'Dangers everywhere and powers that want to crush me potentially... I hope the Uchiha clan will be easier to handle than Picard was.'
