Chapter 4: Chapter 4
"Eek! A Slime that's become a spirit!"
Paimon backed away, hiding behind Lumine and peeking out with her big, adorable eyes blinking rapidly.
Lumine furrowed her brow, lowering her sword but not letting her guard down completely.
"I'm not a bad Slime. I was originally human, but I woke up one day and turned into a Slime."
To clear up the misunderstanding, Famas quickly made up a story.
"I'm definitely not going to tell you I'm the legendary God of Flame, the Fire of War," Famas thought proudly.
Lumine blinked her sparkling eyes, curiously observing the Slime in front of her.
To be honest, Slimes were kind of cute in appearance, but they attacked humans, so they had to be dealt with. This Slime, however, could talk and claimed to have been human. No wonder it hadn't attacked her.
"You really are different from other Slimes. You're so big!" Lumine looked up at the massive Famas.
"I can shrink."
Famas immediately responded.
As he compressed his Pyro energy, Famas's large body began to shrink until it was about the size of Paimon.
"Are you from this world… Teyvat?"
Lumine seemed to accept Famas's existence and carefully picked him up. A gentle warmth spread from her palms to her shoulders.
"Yes, my name is Famas. I've been in this world for a very, very long time."
Famas replied, noticing the excitement in Lumine's eyes.
"Then, have you seen someone who looks like me? A boy with the same golden hair as me?"
Lumine held Famas close to her chest, her excited hands squeezing his body lightly.
"Ouch, I haven't. Wait, be gentle."
"Ah, sorry."
Lumine seemed to realize her mistake, but Famas, being a Pyro Slime, radiated warmth that made it hard not to want to get closer.
"My name is Lumine, and this is Paimon, my best emergency… I mean, my best friend."
"Hey, hey, I think I just heard something weird!"
Paimon, floating nearby, pouted as Lumine began to share her story with Famas.
"...And so, an unknown god took my brother away, and I was sealed by the gods, losing my original power. We used to travel across many worlds, but now we're trapped here… I don't know how long ago that was, but I'll find out. After waking up, I've been wandering alone until two months ago when I met Paimon."
Lumine's gentle tone and the story Famas had heard countless times before made him drowsy again.
"An unknown god, residing in the city above the heavens."
Famas, of course, knew who Lumine was talking about—the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles. Even at the height of his power, leading a mighty rebellion, Famas couldn't have flown up to the celestial city to challenge that god's authority.
"Perhaps only by gathering the power of the Seven Archons could we stand a chance against her."
Just as Famas was lost in thought, Paimon's voice interrupted his musings.
"Then let's go find the first god."
"Our destination is the Statue of The Seven!"
Lumine and Famas both looked at Paimon, who was floating in the air.
"So, Famas, will you come with us?"
Lumine set Famas down on the ground and asked gently.
"Of course. You're heading to Mondstadt, right? I'll go with you."
However, after less than ten minutes of walking, Paimon and Lumine realized a very unfortunate fact: Famas could only move by hopping. At Lumine and Paimon's pace, Famas would inevitably fall behind.
"Why are you walking so fast? Two teenagers bullying a two-thousand-year-old comrade like me? Is this fair? No, it's not. Trickery, ambushes…"
"Famas."
Lumine walked back, her cheeks slightly flushed as she looked at Famas, who was struggling to move while muttering in Slime language.
"Should I carry you?"
Famas froze. If he weren't a Slime, Lumine would've seen his face turn red.
"Then… thank you."
After getting Famas's consent, Lumine bent down slightly and gently picked him up with her slender yet strong arms.
Before Famas could react, he was nestled in a warm embrace.
Comfortable, cozy, wonderful.
Famas's oval eyes curved into crescents, too happy to think about anything else. His round body even took on a faint blush of embarrassment. Slimes didn't have hands or feet, just eyes and a mouth.
Being carried felt amazing.
Lumine held Famas, who was about the size of a basketball. His Slime body was soft and bouncy like jelly, very light, and had a pleasantly warm and squishy texture.
Lumine had never thought a Slime could feel so soft and delightful to hold. It would probably be really comfortable to sleep with at night.
However, Lumine didn't know if Famas was male, female, or genderless like a wind spirit. But since Famas spoke with a male voice, her thoughts began to wander.
Paimon looked at Famas with envy. If only she had pretended she couldn't fly, she would've been the first to enjoy Lumine's embrace.
With Lumine carrying Famas, what would've taken an hour was reduced to just half an hour.
Soon, the three of them finally reached Windrise.
