Genshin Impact: I'm a Slime

Chapter 5: Chapter 5

Not far ahead, the first thing that caught the trio's eyes was a large, lush tree covered in green leaves. A gentle breeze brushed past them, like a soft hand caressing their faces and hair.

Famas squinted his eyes, enjoying the pleasant wind, feeling an inexplicable sense of joy.

In the ancient war-torn nation of Natlan, even the fiercest winds carried the scorching heat of flames. A gentle breeze there would only fan the flames, not bring the comfort of the free winds here.

Swaying his body as he felt the breeze, Famas couldn't help but relax.

In front of the tree stood a Statue of The Seven, dull and lifeless, resembling an ordinary stone sculpture.

"Lumine, let's go," Famas, nestled in Lumine's arms, spoke up.

"Okay~"

Lumine jogged over with Famas in her arms, stopping right in front of the statue.

"The statues of the gods are scattered across the land, symbolizing the protection of the Seven Archons! Among the seven elemental gods, this one controls the wind. I don't know if the god you're looking for is the Anemo Archon, but there's a reason I brought you here first!"

Paimon, flying alongside them, took on the role of guide.

"As everyone knows, language and poetry drift with the wind. There's bound to be news of your brother! That's what I think, anyway. Of course, whether the god will respond is something we'll only know after trying… Now, let's pray."

Lumine nodded at Paimon, carefully set Famas down, and clasped her hands together, closing her eyes in devout prayer to the statue.

As Lumine placed her hands, still warm from holding Famas, on the statue, it lit up with a teal glow. She immediately felt a gentle breeze wrap around her, making her feel lighter and more agile.

"I can feel it… some kind of power?"

Lumine turned to Paimon and Famas, who was hopping on the ground.

"Did you sense the elements of this world? It seems like just touching the statue allows you to harness the power of Anemo," Paimon explained, answering Lumine's unspoken question.

"As long as you don't lose your nobility, the world will open itself to you."

Famas, staring at the statue of Barbatos, suddenly blurted out this line.

"Huh? Famas, you…"

Paimon turned to look at Famas, her mouth agape in surprise.

"If you head west from here, you'll reach the city of freedom, Mondstadt. Mondstadt is the city of wind, where the Anemo Archon is worshipped. Plus, there are many bards in Mondstadt. You might be able to find news of your brother there."

Famas spoke to Lumine, who was still staring at the statue in awe.

"That's my line! Famas!"

Paimon, snapping out of her shock from Famas's sudden seriousness, realized her role as the guide had been stolen by a Slime who had only been with them for half a day.

"I know more too, Paimon. 'The area ahead is full of treasure…'"

"Ahhh, stop it! I hate you, Famas…"

Lumine watched the playful banter between the Slime and Paimon with a gentle smile, then shook her head.

"Let's get going! If we don't hurry, we'll have to camp out in the wild again."

"Hmph, I won't stoop to arguing with a Slime!"

The bickering between Paimon and Famas finally ended with Paimon conceding defeat. Lumine picked up Famas again, and the trio headed west toward Mondstadt.

The journey was quiet for a while.

"Lumine, if you're tired from carrying me, you can put me on your wrist."

After walking for some time, Famas noticed Lumine's breathing was uneven, likely because he was a bit heavy.

"It's fine, Famas."

Lumine shook her head, causing Famas to sway gently in her arms.

"I'm not tired, and you're too big to fit on my wrist anyway."

"Hmm."

Though the scent of the girl made Famas reluctant to leave, he was still a gentleman at heart.

"I can shrink further. The smallest I can go is about the size of a palm."

Without waiting for Lumine's response, Famas began to shrink until he was about half the size of her hand, small enough to be worn as a charm on her waist.

"I knew it! Famas, you're just after Lumine's body! Ugh, how despicable!"

Paimon, seeing Famas shrink even further, loudly accused him of foul play.

"Paimon, don't say that. Famas didn't mean it…"

Lumine's face turned red as she defended Famas, though Paimon's words lingered in her mind.

"Alright, let's talk about something else."

Lumine sighed, looking at the overthinking Paimon and the innocent-looking Famas. The now-tiny Famas wrapped around her forearm, only his eyes peeking out.

"Mondstadt is known as the 'Crown of the North,' the 'City of Wind,' and the 'City of Pastoral Songs.' It worships the Anemo Archon, and at the highest point in the city stands a massive statue of Lord Barbatos."

A few minutes later, the lively Paimon began recounting the history of Mondstadt and her adventures with Lumine.

"Huh?"

As they were about to leave the Whispering Woods, Paimon heard a strange sound.

"There's something up ahead," Paimon said, puzzled.

"Let's go check it out."

Lumine sensed an unusual elemental fluctuation, as if something ahead was signaling them.

The trio quietly hid behind a tree, peeking out cautiously.

"Whoa! What's that? Is that… a dragon?!"

Paimon's eyes widened as she saw a vibrant blue dragon lying on the ground, its body shimmering with light and adorned with three pairs of wings.

"Is that the dragon we encountered earlier?"

Lumine asked curiously.

"You've met it before?"

Famas whispered to the two.

"Yeah, we almost got blown away by the wind it stirred up last time."

"So it's him… Dvalin, the Dragon of the East."

Hearing Paimon's answer, Famas looked up and saw a boy dressed in green, wearing a cape and holding a teal lyre.

"Barbatos…"

It was the Anemo Archon himself, Barbatos—or as he's commonly known, Venti.

Famas was about to call out to Barbatos but stopped when he saw the gentle exchange between Venti and Dvalin.

In the past, Famas hadn't been on good terms with Dvalin. The war-torn nation of Natlan required vast amounts of weapons and equipment, and Dvalin's feathers were perfect for making arrow fletchings. As a result, Famas had often "borrowed" some feathers from Dvalin.

"Can you really call it stealing if it's for a scholarly purpose?"

"Maybe I should wait until Barbatos finishes his reunion with Dvalin before approaching him."

Looking at his current Slime form, Famas decided it was best to prioritize his safety.
