Chapter 8: Chapter 8
Akio's flight speed was incredibly fast, and in a short time, he had crossed hundreds of miles, arriving at Mount Yougou.
"Is that the Grand Narukami Shrine?" From a distance, Akio could already see the Sacred Sakura tree beside the shrine.
The real Grand Narukami Shrine was much larger and more exquisite than in the game. The shrine complex had many buildings where the shrine maidens lived and rested.
Descending from the sky, Akio's sudden appearance startled the shrine maidens, who looked at the young man who had fallen from the sky with caution.
"I am Kuki Miyuki, a shrine maiden of the Grand Narukami Shrine. Who are you?" The leading young shrine maiden stepped forward, looking at Akio. She didn't believe an ordinary person could fly.
"My name is Akio. I'm here at the invitation of the Guuji of the Grand Narukami Shrine, Yae Miko," Akio explained.
"Invited by the Guuji?" Kuki Miyuki was taken aback. She turned to another shrine maiden and said, "Nana, go inform the Guuji."
"Understood," Kano Nana nodded and turned to enter the shrine.
"Please, this way," Kuki Miyuki led Akio to a resting area and poured him a cup of tea.
Akio observed the young shrine maiden in front of him. He had to admit that those chosen to serve as shrine maidens were all beautiful.
Kuki Miyuki wasn't just a generic face like in the game.
In his previous life, she would have been at least a campus belle-level beauty. But why was her hair black? Her sister, Kuki Shinobu, had green hair, right?
Seemingly a bit shy under Akio's gaze, the young maiden's face flushed slightly, and her eyes darted away.
It had to be a country modeled after Japan. They really knew how to play. He had heard that shrine maidens were pure servants of the gods, remaining unmarried for life, their bodies reserved for the gods' favor. But with so many beauties in the shrine, and the deity being a woman…
"Akio!" Just as Akio was getting bored, Yae Miko walked out. Seeing Akio sitting there, she quickly approached.
"Miko, you're here," Akio nodded and stood up.
"Guuji!" Kuki Miyuki quickly stood up and greeted Yae Miko, retracting her furtive glances at Akio.
"Miyuki, don't stop Akio in the future," Yae Miko nodded. "From now on, Akio will be the Great Divine Official of our Grand Narukami Shrine. Besides me, he's also your superior."
"Uh-huh… Huh?" Kuki Miyuki nodded, then suddenly realized something was off. The Great Divine Official?
As a shrine maiden, she naturally knew about the Great Divine Official, but she had heard that the position hadn't been filled for a hundred years. Now, the Guuji was reinstating it?
"What's wrong? Can't you accept it?" Yae Miko raised an eyebrow.
"No… it's not that," Kuki Miyuki quickly shook her head, sneaking another glance at Akio.
"That's good. You'll have to listen to him from now on~" Yae Miko teased, hooking a finger under Kuki Miyuki's chin.
"I… I understand, Guuji," Kuki Miyuki lowered her head, her voice soft.
"Hmm," Yae Miko hummed. "Then, go inform the other shrine maidens."
"Understood, Guuji," Kuki Miyuki nodded.
"Oh, and to welcome our Great Divine Official, arrange a grand feast for tonight after the worshippers leave," Yae Miko added.
"I'll take care of it, Guuji," Kuki Miyuki nodded.
"Come on, Akio, let's talk inside," Yae Miko said.
Akio nodded and followed Yae Miko to her room.
It smelled wonderful! The first thing Akio noticed upon entering Yae Miko's room was the faint, pleasant fragrance that filled the air, soothing and refreshing, much like the scent Yae Miko carried.
Yae Miko's room was simple and clean, not cluttered, with everything neatly arranged. There were mainly books, documents, and a decent-sized bed.
"My, my, Lord Akio, you're the first boy to enter my private chambers," Yae Miko teased as she watched Akio survey her room.
"I've heard from an old friend in Liyue that a girl's private room is very personal," Yae Miko said with a playful smile. "It's only open to the man she fancies. Can you feel my heart's intentions?"
"Is that so? I'm afraid I don't sense it," Akio knew Yae Miko's mischievous nature well. If he said he felt it, the next words out of her mouth would probably be, "Dream on."
"What a cold and unfeeling deity~" Yae Miko pretended to be on the verge of tears, pouting. "You've broken my heart."
"Alright, Miko, stop messing around," Akio said, exasperated.
"Fine, fine, you're such a clueless man," Yae Miko rolled her eyes. "Akio, you'll be staying at the shrine from now on. The room next to mine is yours. I'll have someone tidy it up for you."
"Your monthly stipend is 200,000 Mora. If that's not enough, you can always send the bills to the Grand Narukami Shrine," Yae Miko calculated. "Oh, and we have a cafeteria here, so meals are free."
"Oh?" Hearing this, Akio's eyes lit up. He had already noticed in Inazuma City that the purchasing power of Mora in reality wasn't as low as in the game. It was roughly a 1:10 ratio. So, 200,000 Mora a month was equivalent to about 20,000 yuan in purchasing power, and the shrine provided food and lodging.
Most importantly, he could send the bills to the Grand Narukami Shrine. How great was that? Where was the wealthiest place in Inazuma? Definitely the Grand Narukami Shrine!
Not to mention Yae Miko's Yae Publishing House, whose business spanned the entire continent of Teyvat. Even Collei learned to read from Yae Publishing House's novels.
It was safe to say that no one knew just how wealthy Yae Miko was. Add the Grand Narukami Shrine to that, and it was a solid financial pillar.
Akio was practically laughing inside. Coming to Inazuma, he had directly landed a government job, a position in the Grand Narukami Shrine. That was definitely an official government role, at least at the ministerial level.
"Here, this is your Divine Official's token, representing your status," Yae Miko produced a token, its body a cherry blossom pink.
Akio took the token and saw the emblem of the Electro Mitsudomoe on the front, representing the most revered Narukami Ogosho, and the Sacred Sakura pattern on the back, symbolizing the Grand Narukami Shrine.
Casually hanging the token at his waist, Akio looked out the window. Outside Yae Miko's room was the Sacred Sakura tree.
Akio naturally knew that within the Sacred Sakura tree was a remnant of Makoto's consciousness.
As the Herrscher of Rebirth, Akio could also sense the faint, almost imperceptible consciousness within the tree, like a candle in the wind, a lamp in the rain, soon to dissipate.
Since that was the case, the means to handle Yae Miko and Raiden Ei would officially begin now.
