Chapter 5: Purification of Azhdaha
After the blinding white light faded, a deafening sound echoed across Liyue. A massive crater had formed, and Azhdaha was now petrified.
"Friend, now is your time to act."
Morax turned to Qiu Bai.
"Hm."
Without hesitation, Qiu Bai teleported directly in front of Azhdaha, channeling a large amount of Yang energy into the dragon's body.
"Tsk, this isn't nearly enough... I'll have to burn my essence!"
Clenching his teeth, he poured his primordial Yang energy into Azhdaha. A radiant white light illuminated the land, washing away the devastation.
The once-barren crater, a scar of destruction, bloomed with life. Flowers and greenery sprouted rapidly, and within moments, a vast forest had taken root.
"Friend, what are you doing?!"
Morax sensed the abnormality.
The Adepti quickly realized what was happening.
"No! The Immortal Lord is sacrificing his own essence!"
Morax's expression grew heavy. He had never expected his friend to go to such lengths to save Azhdaha. This act wouldn't just put Qiu Bai into a thousand-year slumber—his very consciousness would be weakened.
Guoba: "Lululu (^▽^)."
But what Morax didn't know was that Qiu Bai had a system backing him up.
"Morax... I may be asleep for a long time."
"But you're a friend worth having. When I wake up, let's have some tea together..."
With those words, Qiu Bai's eyelids grew heavy, and his body slumped forward.
"Friend!"
Before he could collapse, Morax caught him, his gaze complicated with emotions—guilt, surprise, and an unmistakable sense of loss.
"...Alright. When the time comes, I promise I'll share a pot of fine tea with you."
Morax looked at the sleeping Qiu Bai, his voice solemn.
"Lord of Geo, Immortal Lord!"
The Adepti, too, watched with complex expressions. Ganyu covered her mouth, tears welling in her eyes, unable to believe what she was witnessing.
"Leave the Immortal Lord to me. He told me before—when he falls into slumber, he wishes to be sealed within his domain."
At that moment, Cloud Retainer took on her human form. Her long, white hair cascaded down her back, her elegant Daoist robes adorned with a crane insignia. Even in this solemn moment, her striking figure was impossible to ignore.
"Alright."
With a heavy heart, Morax carefully handed Qiu Bai over to Cloud Retainer.
She held him gently in her arms, gazing at his face with a worried expression, lost in thought. Then, without another word, she took off, soaring toward Jueyun Karst.
Morax stood watching, his eyes following her figure until she disappeared beyond the horizon.
If Qiu Bai were awake right now, he would undoubtedly be shouting, Damn, she's stunning! Sorry, Ganyu—Cloud Retainer, I'm coming for you!
...
Nearby, cracks spread across Azhdaha's petrified form. His colossal, rock-covered body slowly shrank, transforming into that of a middle-aged man with a pair of dragon horns. His expression was dazed, his eyes filled with confusion.
"Morax... Where am I? How did I get here?"
Azhdaha looked at Morax, seeking answers.
"Azhdaha... Let me explain everything."
Morax's voice was heavy as he recounted the events that had transpired.
Upon hearing the full story, Azhdaha's expression turned complicated.
"To think... After centuries apart, you've already made new friends."
There was a hint of emotion in his voice.
"And I never imagined that even I could be corrupted by this so-called 'Black Calamity' without even realizing it."
Morax's expression darkened. "That place beneath the Chasm—you must investigate it. If there is no way to eliminate the source of this corruption, seal it off. No one in Liyue must ever set foot there."
Morax fell into deep thought.
"Black Calamity... I can't believe such a thing exists in Liyue. Azhdaha, I will go investigate it soon. For now, return and focus on your recovery."
After speaking for a while longer, Morax, Azhdaha, and the Adepti parted ways, each returning to their respective dwellings.
...
The seasons changed—spring turned to winter, winter to summer.
In the blink of an eye, five hundred years had passed.
A catastrophic tide of dark beasts, unleashed by Khaenri'ah, swept across all of Teyvat, attacking the Seven Nations.
But the beasts weren't the only threat. Lurking in the shadows of the distant seas were powerful demons—followers of the fallen gods. These beings held a deep-seated grudge against Morax for having sealed away their deities during the Archon War. Their wrath was not aimed at mortals, but at the Adepti.
Under the command of the Geo Archon, the Qianyan Army formed defensive lines to resist the invasion.
"The Yaksha clan will defend Liyue to the death! Not a single beast shall set foot in our land!"
"Has Morax gone elsewhere? No matter—Liyue still has me! These monsters will never breach our borders!"
Azhdaha, assuming his true form, stood like a living mountain, guarding the isolated region of Guyun Stone Forest.
The endless tide of beasts crashed against him, but their attacks and bites were no more than an itch to the massive dragon. With a single step, he crushed entire swaths of them. A single roar was enough to shake the heavens and slay thousands.
Summoning massive rock constructs, Azhdaha hurled them into the horde, crushing the enemy beneath their weight. With a shift in elemental energy, he froze the very sea itself. Yet, despite his overwhelming power, the beasts kept coming, an unrelenting flood of darkness.
Meanwhile, Xiao—also known as Alatus fought tirelessly at the front lines in Dihua Marsh, leading the Qianyan Army in a desperate stand against the onslaught.
Across all battlefronts, the Adepti stood their ground. The skies above Liyue were blanketed with ominous clouds, and the black tide of beasts surged like an unending ocean. Countless homes were reduced to ruins, and many brave warriors laid down their lives in defense of their nation.
The war between immortals and demons had begun.
For half a month, the battle raged on. Many Yakshas, overwhelmed by karmic corruption, fell into madness and perished in agony.
"Hold the line! Do not let them advance beyond sixty-two miles from the Chasm!"
A Yaksha named Bosacius led a vast number of the demonic beasts away, ultimately sealing himself along with them in the depths of the Chasm.
Because of Azhdaha's presence, the fate of Liyue had changed. At the very least, most of the city's people and homes remained standing.
Just as the battle was nearing its end…
...
Somewhere in the vast lands of Liyue, a young girl was gathering medicinal herbs when she lost her footing, slipping off a cliff. Tumbling down, she landed deep within a secluded realm—a place untouched by mortals. In the fall, she injured her right leg.
Panicked and in pain, she sought refuge in a nearby cave, hurriedly tending to her wounds.
Before she could finish, faint, otherworldly noises reached her ears—sounds that did not belong to this world.
Unbeknownst to her, she had strayed into the very heart of the war between immortals and demons. Caught in its aftermath, she had no chance of escaping unscathed. The sheer force of the battle raging outside was beyond what any human body could endure. Stricken with numerous injuries, she lay on the cold ground, too weak to move.
In that moment, her blurred vision caught sight of something—or rather, someone.
A young man, breathtakingly beautiful, lay motionless atop a bed of Cor Lapis, his figure untainted by the chaos surrounding them.
She wanted to cry out for help.
But she could not.
Her body was failing her, the cave entrance had been blocked by falling boulders, and outside, celestial and demonic forces clashed in an unrelenting battle. The battlefield beyond those rocks was even more perilous.
She had no means of escape. Unless a miracle occurred, her life would continue to slip away with every passing second.
As the last remnants of her strength faded, she whispered her final wish:
"If only time could stop… if only I could return to the past… how wonderful that would be."
With that thought, tears streamed from the corners of her eyes, trailing down her face as her consciousness waned.
She wanted time to stop.
She wanted to go back to when she was still alive and well.
It was her most desperate, final wish.
Perhaps it was the fear of death.
Perhaps it was the relentless will to live.
Perhaps it was an overwhelming longing for the loved ones she would never see again.
Whatever the reason, in that moment—
A shimmering Vision appeared beside her.
The element of Cryo, the power of ice and preservation, had answered Qiqi's dying wish.
However, for a girl already at death's door, even a Vision could not free her from the hands of fate.
