Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Cultivating the Land
Xi quickly brought out two plates and carefully placed them on a stone table.
Pamela leaned in for a closer look, and her face immediately turned green. She almost threw up.
One plate was filled with fist-sized worms that were still wriggling, glowing with an eerie green light. The other plate contained red fruits, but they emitted a sinister red glow, making them look extremely unappetizing.
Kino frowned and asked, "Xi, is this your food?"
Xi nodded seriously and replied, "Demon worms and fire fruits are the primary sources of food for demons. These are the only foods that weak demons can obtain. Stronger demons choose to devour souls, which not only satisfy their hunger but also enhance their power."
Kino sighed and rubbed his forehead. "Frank, go prepare some proper food. Make sure every demon has a good meal."
"Yes, young master," Frank responded before leaving Hell, having gained permission to travel freely between Hell and the mortal world.
With a sudden thud, Xi dropped to her knees, bowing her head. "I have disappointed Your Majesty. Please punish me."
"Stand up. This is not your fault; it is my problem," Kino said as he reached out and helped Xi to her feet.
As he observed Hell's desolate environment, a thought arose within him, awakening an instinct imprinted deep in his soul.
"Pamela, let's transform Hell. Let's turn this place into a real world."
Upon hearing Kino's words, Pamela's eyes instantly lit up. The discomfort she had felt from seeing the food earlier vanished, replaced by pure excitement and anticipation.
"Yes!" she exclaimed joyfully, her hands instinctively clenching into fists, her entire being brimming with determination and energy.
She had once considered retreating to a secluded place to create her own plant kingdom after becoming a monster, but after meeting her beloved, she abandoned that idea.
"Transform Hell?" Coulson looked utterly incredulous. He slowly turned to gaze beyond the plaza, where volcanoes spewed thick smoke into the dark sky, and rivers of lava flowed freely across the land.
"That's impossible," he muttered, shaking his head. The idea sounded like pure fantasy.
"Young master, if it's just creating a small oasis, it is possible," Banner interjected. "For plants to grow, four major factors are required: sunlight, oxygen, water, and soil. We have oxygen here. Sunlight can be artificially generated. As for the terrain, the mountain demons could modify it. Water can be transferred from Earth, and plants can be cultivated here."
Among Banner's seven doctorate degrees, geology and meteorology were included. Kino had done him a great favor, and now, he was seriously considering ways to make this work.
"Banner, I don't want just a small oasis. I want an entire world."
Banner stroked his chin, studying the infernal landscape with a focused gaze before shaking his head. "Young master, this would be an incredibly massive undertaking. If you want Hell to become a self-sustaining ecosystem, you must modify its geological structure, create a soil layer, and control the weather. Ideally, it would need all four seasons, along with proper plant cultivation and humidity regulation. These are all significant challenges..."
As he spoke, Banner began sketching a simple diagram on the ground, his expression serious and focused.
"The plant problem is easy to solve. Pamela, show them what you can do."
Pamela sat up from Kino's embrace, her hands glowing with a soft green light, radiating warmth and vitality like the dawn of spring.
Tiny specks of green light appeared across the blackened plaza. Within moments, small sprouts emerged from the barren ground, growing rapidly before everyone's eyes, their tender leaves unfurling.
In the blink of an eye, flowers bloomed in vibrant colors, dazzling and magnificent. Grass spread across the plaza like an emerald carpet, lush and dense.
A gentle breeze carried a sweet floral fragrance through the air. The previously dark and oppressive scene was now filled with life and energy.
The demons stood frozen, staring at the grass beneath their feet in utter disbelief. Their eyes were filled with wonder, as if witnessing a miracle for the first time.
Even the battle between Hulk and the Minotaur demon came to an abrupt halt. Hulk curiously reached out and gently touched a delicate flower at his feet, a puzzled expression on his face.
The Minotaur demon sighed in relief upon seeing Hulk lose interest in the fight. "This guy just keeps getting stronger the longer he fights... terrifying," he thought.
He took a deep breath, inhaling the refreshing scent of nature. Unable to resist, he grabbed a handful of grass and stuffed it into his mouth.
His eyes widened in delight. "Delicious!" he shouted before plopping onto the ground and devouring the grass with great enthusiasm.
Seeing this, Hulk hesitated for a moment before plucking a flower and taking a bite. He immediately frowned and grumbled, "Not good."
The surrounding demons, intrigued by the Minotaur's enthusiasm, hesitantly sampled the plants.
Some were overjoyed, greedily shoving mouthfuls into their mouths, while others spat it out in disgust, finding the taste unbearable.
For a moment, the plaza was filled with chatter and commotion.
Basa knocked out Abomination with a punch and tossed a parchment on the ground before walking toward the grass. He lay down, gazing at the red sky above. No creature could truly despise the scent of nature—not even demons.
His eyes held a trace of nostalgia, as if recalling fond memories. Long ago, he had visited the human world, seen forests, and tasted delicious food. He had never forgotten that experience.
Coulson and Banner were still in shock, staring at the grass beneath their feet. Coulson reached out, running his fingers over the blades of grass.
"Is this an illusion?" he muttered in disbelief.
Banner crouched down, examining the leaves carefully before shaking his head. "No, this is real life."
Xi knelt and gently stroked the grass, her expression dazed. "Life... appearing in Hell... This has never happened before."
Her eyes shone with a mixture of joy and uncertainty about the changes to come.
Pamela stopped channeling her power, slightly out of breath. "Darling, this grassland will last for at most a week before it begins to wither."
"That's fine. This is just the beginning."
Banner adjusted his glasses, his expression serious. "Young master, even with such abilities and with demons assisting, this is at least a century-long project."
"That's why I plan to start a company and recruit people. I think those mutants would be perfect. They seem like they'd be great at farming," Kino said with a sly grin, recalling Storm's ability to control the weather.
"No! You can't recruit the mutants!" Coulson instinctively objected, his face full of concern.
Kino raised an eyebrow, his tone laced with mockery. "Why not? Don't humans despise mutants? Wouldn't they rather see them rot in Hell? I'm doing you a favor."
Coulson sighed helplessly. "That's not the kind of 'going to Hell' I meant."
Kino's eyes gleamed with interest. "Coulson, why don't you join me?"
Coulson gave a wry smile and shook his head. "Mr. Kino, I'll end up in Hell sooner or later, but there's no need to rush it."
"A barren land is only a challenge waiting to be conquered."
