Chapter 459: Chapter 459: The Farstrider
Faced with her sister's teasing and Alaric's earnest "assist," Alleria finally couldn't hold back her outburst.
"Stop it! Is teasing your elder sister that much fun?"
"Yes."
"Absolutely!"
"Seeing the usually composed Alleria turn red is just so adorable."
"Yeah, yeah, the contrast with her usual expressions is just too amusing."
"You… you two are… just mean!"
Hearing each other's responses, Alaric and Sylvanas exchanged glances, feeling a surprising sense of mutual understanding.
In his past life, Alaric had been quite fond of Sylvanas, and the second Windrunner sister found this human in front of her rather intriguing.
Not only did his appearance align with her aesthetic preferences, but he could also match her wit and humor.
Unlike some of her subordinates in the Farstriders, who turned red-faced and stammered whenever they saw her, Alaric could actually hold his own.
Sure, having an admirer wasn't entirely unwelcome, but it was often those who could stand shoulder to shoulder with a "goddess" or even make her look up to them that truly caught her attention, wasn't it?
While the two found themselves increasingly impressed with each other, Alleria, on the other hand, was thoroughly flustered.
Her younger sister and her newly acknowledged "little brother" had ganged up on her to make fun of her.
Other than calling them "mean," what else could she say?
Why had it come to this?
For the first time, she had encountered a human male she admired. For the first time, she and her sister shared a similar opinion about a human.
Two such joyful occurrences intertwined.
These two sources of happiness should have granted her a dreamlike, blissful time. Yet, why had things turned out like this?
It was me—me first! I was the first to meet him, the first to admire him, and the first to develop feelings for him. But why… why are you and Sylvanas so in sync?!
Thus, during the walk to the Farstriders' Square, an awkward silence fell among the three.
Leading the way, Alleria was trapped in endless shame and self-doubt.
Behind her, Alaric and Sylvanas exchanged only subtle glances, too afraid to speak lest they provoke Alleria again.
When they finally arrived at the Farstriders' camp, most of the rangers were gathered in the training grounds, either chatting or practicing.
Upon noticing the three, nearly everyone greeted the Windrunner sisters warmly, a testament to their high standing within the Farstriders.
Naturally, Alaric's presence drew curious and somewhat hostile gazes, especially when the rangers realized this human seemed to be on good terms with the Windrunner sisters.
Some glances were even tinged with jealousy and challenge.
"So, these Farstriders seem pretty sensitive about humans, huh?"
Alaric mused to himself but didn't care much.
The hostility of admirers and losers alike held no weight for him.
That said, the presence of the Farstriders wasn't entirely useless—at least, they successfully diverted Alleria's attention, easing the strange tension among the three.
In the training grounds, Alleria gathered all the rangers and began introducing them to Alaric.
"Lor'themar Theron, one of our best rangers." She pointed to a male elf.
This elven ranger, clad in full armor and holding a helm adorned with leaf patterns, stared intently at Alaric with deep brown eyes beneath his corn-colored hair.
His gaze was anything but friendly.
Of course, Alaric recognized Lor'themar Theron.
This excellent ranger would one day become the leader of the elves, the Regent Lord. He had even heard of Lor'themar's less-than-flattering nickname.
On a side note, the rangers were not equivalent to the hunter class in the game. In truth, the real Azeroth had no such "hunter" profession. There were only ordinary archers and rangers.
The former were essentially soldier-archers, leaning more towards warriors. The latter, however, were a blend of hunter, survivalist, and warrior.
They boasted exceptional archery, survival skills, trap-making, animal handling, and even swordsmanship and stealth abilities.
In short, rangers were incredibly versatile, excelling at both long-range and close-quarters combat.
Most rangers might specialize in only some of these skills, but that didn't diminish their effectiveness.
Alleria went on to introduce more individuals. Among them, Alaric noted Halduron Brightwing, who he knew would one day become the Farstriders' commander.
Finally, Alleria pointed to her sister.
"Sylvanas Windrunner, my younger sister. I'm sure you've already figured that out. But I must emphasize—she'll likely soon become the leader of the Farstriders, our Ranger-General."
At this, Alaric caught a glimmer of pride in Alleria's eyes.
Sylvanas, however, quickly interjected, "Actually, that position should've been yours, sister. If not for your decision…"
She trailed off, casting a glance at Alaric.
"You better not let my sister down. You have no idea what this silly girl has sacrificed for you."
"Syl-va-nas! Who are you calling a silly girl?!" Alleria exploded in anger. "Do you even respect me as your elder sister anymore?"
The cordial atmosphere between the sisters instantly shattered.
Still, Sylvanas' words made Alaric realize something.
During the past few days, while he had been attending banquets, building relationships, and expanding his influence, Alleria must have sought out her mother and elder sister, hoping to gain their support.
Alleria was resolute in her determination to dedicate more resources to aiding humans and focusing on the safety of all Azeroth, rather than solely protecting Quel'Thalas.
Under such circumstances, the position of Ranger-General, which should have been hers, was passed on to Sylvanas by their mother, Lireesa Windrunner.
After all, the Farstriders were primarily Quel'Thalas' military force.
Regardless of whether Alleria relinquished the title for Alaric's sake or for Azeroth's greater good, Alaric had to admit—she had made considerable sacrifices for him.
"Thank you, Alleria. Thank you for everything you've done for me," he whispered as he approached her.
"W-what are you saying all of a sudden…" Alleria was startled by Alaric's unexpected sentimentality.
His warm breath brushed against her sensitive long ears, making her cheeks flush bright red.
