Highschool DxD: Damn, I'm OP as Fuck!

Chapter 25: Chapter 24: A Hero's Gamble

Kenji walked casually, but his steps were purposeful.

Ahead, Liliruca Arde moved cautiously, her small figure blending into the shadows of an alley.

Kenji didn't stop.

He followed.

From the moment he handed over her share of gold, he had expected this.

And now, he was about to see for himself.

Behind him, Medusa's amused voice echoed in his mind.

"Little Master, are you finally playing the hero to save the damsel in distress?"

Kenji rolled his eyes.

He didn't answer.

Instead, he watched.

And waited.

---

Lily entered a narrow alleyway.

She didn't hesitate—as if this was routine.

Waiting in the darkness were several burly men, each one a member of the Soma Familia.

At their center stood a large man wielding a rusted scimitar.

He sneered, extending a greedy hand.

"Hand it over."

Lily, her small hands trembling, placed her gold pouch in his palm.

The man weighed the bag, grinning.

"This kid's a real fat sheep."

Another laughed coldly.

"As long as he keeps paying, we milk him dry."

"Better not lose him, Lily," a third sneered, stepping closer.

"You know what happens if you mess up."

Lily flinched but said nothing.

Her hands clenched into fists.

Her heart pounded.

She hated this.

Hated them.

Hated herself.

She closed her eyes.

"Someone… please…"

Then—

A voice.

Smooth. Playful.

From behind them.

"Well, well… I didn't know I was such a popular cash cow."

The men froze.

Lily's eyes snapped open.

She turned.

At the entrance of the alley, bathed in the glow of a street lamp—

Kenji stood there, smiling.

His hand rested on his sword.

Casual.

But deadly.

The Soma thugs stiffened.

They knew him.

They had been watching him for days.

And now—

He was here.

---

The leader of the group—a Level 3 adventurer—stepped forward.

He gritted his teeth but forced a smirk.

"You just made a mistake, kid."

"You could've kept feeding us without trouble—but now…"

He raised his scimitar.

"We'll just rob you directly."

Weapons were drawn.

A dozen hostile gazes locked onto Kenji.

He sighed.

"Really?"

His right hand tightened on his blade's hilt.

Orange lightning crackled along the metal.

The air hummed with energy.

Then—

He moved.

Flash.

A golden arc of lightning tore through the alley.

Then—silence.

Seven men froze in place.

Their eyes wide.

Their bodies stiff.

The leader trembled.

"…Impossible."

He barely choked out the words.

"You're just a—"

Thud.

They all collapsed.

One by one.

Lily watched in horror—but also awe.

In mere seconds—

Kenji had ended it.

---

Kenji stepped over the bodies without a glance.

Lily kept her head low.

She expected anger.

Expected punishment.

She had lied to him. Used him.

She had betrayed his kindness.

But instead—

She felt a warm touch on her head.

Kenji's hand.

Soft.

Firm.

She looked up, eyes wide.

"Lily."

His voice was calm.

"I was waiting for you to ask for help."

Lily trembled.

"I… I…"

Kenji knelt to her level.

"I already knew."

Her breath hitched.

"The Soma Familia? Their corruption?"

"I knew."

Lily stared.

"You knew… and you still…?"

Kenji smiled slightly.

"You're stronger than you think, Lily."

"But even the strong need a little help sometimes."

Her eyes burned.

Tears fell silently down her cheeks.

For the first time in years—

She didn't feel alone.

---

Kenji stood up.

His back to the moonlight.

"Lily," he said simply.

"If you want to change—"

His eyes met hers.

"…Then start by choosing your own path."

Lily clutched her chest.

Her heart ached.

But it wasn't pain.

It was something else.

Hope.
