Hunter X Hunter: I Got Stronger After I Died

Chapter 100: Fingers x Tree Hollow

In the early hours of the day following the Yorknew City auction, Nolan Gambino received the news of Earthworm and Mosquito's deaths.

The moment he heard it, the composure that had been ingrained in him for years shattered completely.

Nolan's facial muscles twitched violently for a few moments, his features contorting into a mix of rage and disbelief.

Why was it them who died?

His unshakable faith in the Shadow Beasts made it impossible for him to accept this reality.

A long time ago, Nolan had personally witnessed the Shadow Beasts in action—ruthless, brutal, and efficient.

Their sheer, lethal power had captivated him, igniting his desire to create his own version of the Shadow Beasts.

But such a feat was easier said than done.

The Shadow Beasts were the ten strongest members handpicked from the Mafia's elite, directly serving the Ten Dons.

While Nolan had spent over a decade cultivating his own organization, its core strength was still far inferior to the Shadow Beasts.

And even if the Shadow Beasts lost members, replacements could always be selected from the vast underworld of the Six Continents and Ten Districts, or even from the personal bodyguards of the Ten Dons.

But Nolan's own Nen users? Every death was a permanent loss.

Recruiting replacements wasn't simply a matter of money—loyalty was an even bigger concern than power.

Inside the dimly lit, spacious room, Nolan sat in silence for what felt like an eternity.

The rage on his face gradually faded, but his index finger continued to tap rapidly against the armrest of his sofa, producing a sharp, impatient rhythm.

The only sound in the entire room was the repeated tapping of his finger against the wood.

A long time passed before even that noise subsided.

Expressionless, Nolan rose from the sofa, grabbed the still-vibrating phone on the nearby table, and strode toward the closed door.

As he pushed the door open, the bright lights from the hallway spilled in, dispersing the room's darkness.

Nolan descended the stairs to the mansion's main hall.

Beneath the grand crystal chandelier, seated on a white leather sofa, was an old man with an aura of cold ruthlessness.

His slicked-back silver hair was perfectly combed, and he clutched a cylindrical cane, resting it firmly between his legs.

As Nolan stepped down from the staircase, the old man turned his head slightly, casting an icy gaze in his direction.

Nolan quickened his pace, lowering his head respectfully as he approached.

This old man was none other than Gambino, one of the Ten Dons—and Nolan's father.

No matter what, Nolan never dared to show even a hint of disrespect in his presence.

Gambino's expression remained unreadable as he spoke slowly:

"You're getting bolder and bolder."

"I turned a blind eye to your involvement in Kakin's virus research, but now—

you had the nerve to falsely use my name to mobilize the Shadow Beasts?"

"Father, I was wrong."

Nolan bowed even lower, not offering excuses—just a straightforward admission of guilt.

Gambino clicked his tongue, his gaze sharpening.

"Remember—there won't be a next time."

His low, chilling voice left no room for argument.

With that, Gambino slowly rose from his seat.

The bodyguard standing beside him immediately stepped forward, ready to assist.

But Nolan was faster—he reached out and firmly supported his father's arm, ensuring he could stand up with ease.

Gambino didn't resist Nolan's assistance.

This small detail reassured Nolan slightly, but he knew—his father's warning just now had been one of the most serious ones he had ever received.

After seeing his father off, Nolan returned to the main hall.

Sitting on the sofa, his hands clasped beneath his chin, his eyes grew colder and more calculating.

With his father handling the fallout from the Shadow Beasts' deaths, there was no immediate danger on that front.

But eliminating the actual threat—that was now his top priority.

"Come here."

Nolan suddenly called out.

A figure emerged from the side chamber, stepping forward to stand before Nolan.

After a moment of silent thought, Nolan spoke coldly:

"Send word to 'The Fingers'—I want them all back."

"Understood."

The subordinate nodded and left.

Nolan lowered his gaze, murderous intent surging in his eyes.

The Fingers—Nolan's Personal Elite

The Fingers were the five strongest members of Nolan's organization:

Thumb – Retona (stationed at the virus research facility)

Index Finger

Middle Finger

Ring Finger

Little Finger

He had built this team as a counterpart to the Shadow Beasts.

Due to his menu business spanning multiple continents, these elite operatives were stationed in different territories to oversee operations.

Thumb Retona had been in charge of the virus research facility on the Guganyu border, using the region's lucrative smuggling trade to generate massive profits for the organization.

But now, that facility was destroyed. Retona was dead.

This cost Nolan dearly—he lost a major client's trust and a vast source of income.

And the one responsible for all of it…

That same bastard had now killed two Shadow Beasts, nearly dragging Nolan into the wrath of the Ten Dons.

On top of that, his assassination order for the other target had failed.

Nolan realized that if he wanted this handled properly, he couldn't rely on outsiders.

So, he was recalling all the Fingers to end this personally.

This decision, however, came at a cost.

With his key enforcers pulled away, his business in different regions would be vulnerable to rivals.

Still—this had to be done.

His ambition had made him expand too quickly, reaching beyond his father's jurisdiction before he was fully stable.

Though he had managed to establish his roots, the rapid expansion meant his top forces were too spread out.

Now, he had to risk destabilizing his operations in order to eliminate the threats standing in his way.

And Nolan Gambino had already made up his mind.

He would kill them all.

September 15 – Five Days After the Yorknew Auction

Moro and Kurt arrived in the Saherta Federation, back on the Yorbian Continent.

Nolan was somewhere in Saherta—and since Moro had intercepted Kurt mid-air, they had to return there to proceed with their mission.

Upon landing, Moro had already disguised himself.

At Kurt's suggestion, he dressed in Illumi's favorite brand of sportswear, wore a wig, and put on a pair of sunglasses.

At first, Moro even considered wearing a needle-covered outfit, but Kurt reminded him that in 1996, Illumi hadn't developed that style yet.

"Expose your forehead completely, but let a single strand of hair hang down."

Kurt gave precise styling advice.

Moro complied, adjusting his appearance.

"Well? Do I look convincing?"

Kurt studied him carefully, momentarily dazed.

With his eyes hidden behind sunglasses and wearing a familiar outfit, the illusion of resemblance was quite strong—six or seven points of similarity, at least.

If not for height and build differences, he might have looked even more identical.

"It'll do."

Kurt looked away, unwilling to stare any longer.

With the disguise settled, Moro turned to their next problem—securing the Ruby Avian Blade…
