Chapter 99: The Subtle Uses of Star Convergence
The second photo Kurt pulled out was of Illumi.
This was exactly what Moro wanted.
As a transmigrator, he naturally knew some of Illumi's facial features.
But he had to let Kurt make the decision—this was equivalent to getting permission.
"This one."
Moro made his choice without hesitation.
Seeing this, Kurt suddenly examined Moro's face more carefully.
Strangely enough, this bastard did resemble Illumi a little.
Especially his nose and mouth—they were quite similar.
But their eyes were completely different.
Illumi's eyes were larger and much colder, while this bastard's eyes had a softer look.
Age-wise, they seemed to be about four to five years apart.
With just a bit of disguise and a pair of sunglasses, it wouldn't be a problem.
Wait, why am I even worrying about this?
It's his problem if he gets exposed, not mine.
Still… what the hell is he thinking?
On one hand, he wants to stay hidden. On the other, he insists on getting involved in an assassination job.
Kurt found himself overthinking again.
Suddenly, he remembered something important.
Thinking of Nolan's real motives for tracking Moro and the two Shadow Beasts he encountered while passing the message, Kurt's expression turned serious.
"There's something you need to know."
Moro noticed the sudden shift in Kurt's demeanor and asked curiously:
"What is it?"
"Nolan is hunting you, and two very strong Nen users are involved."**
Kurt's tone was grave.
"Even though you've left the Saheerta Federation, to be safe, we should avoid meeting until you finish disguising yourself. No need to cause unnecessary complications."
He had accepted the assassination job because he was confident in his ability to track Nolan's movements and wait patiently for the perfect moment.
During an assassination, he would never opt for a direct confrontation.
But now that Moro was interfering, the job had changed from "waiting" to "taking action."
Kurt had to consider all possible complications. He didn't want any unnecessary trouble.
Moro instantly understood Kurt's concerns and smiled.
"We'll do it your way. But these two powerful Nen users—are they Shadow Beasts?"
"Yes."
Kurt nodded, then suddenly realized something. His brow furrowed.
"Wait… did you run into them?"
His gaze instinctively fell on Moro's torn clothing.
Then he remembered how Moro had traveled across an entire country to get here.
Kurt had previously encountered those two Shadow Beasts up close and witnessed their abilities firsthand.
One of them—Earthworm, was it?—could completely conceal his presence.
With that ability, combined with coordinated attacks, even if Moro was strong, he shouldn't have had the upper hand.
So Moro must've realized he was outmatched and escaped using his ability.
And then… he came to bribe me to solve the problem at its root.
Kurt quickly figured it out.
Before Moro could even answer, Kurt's frown relaxed, and his tone turned smug.
"Oh… so you ran away."
"Huh?"
A question mark popped up in Moro's head.
Kurt lowered his gaze to hide his glee and continued.
"Those two Shadow Beasts really are strong. It makes sense that you'd have to flee. We'll need to be cautious during the operation—especially against that exhibitionist…"
"No need to worry. They're dead."
Moro interrupted.
"Their… abilities… wait, what? They're DEAD?!"
Kurt's sentence cut off. His head snapped up, staring at Moro in disbelief.
Moro calmly repeated:
"Both of them are dead. You don't have to worry about them."
"!!!"
The smugness drained from Kurt's face, replaced by pure shock.
How is that even possible…?
As someone who had lost to Moro, he acknowledged that Moro was strong.
But compared to those two Shadow Beasts, there was still a clear gap.
Especially since one of them specialized in coordinated combat.
With such an obvious power difference, how could Moro kill them both with nothing but a few rips in his clothing?!
Seeing Kurt's dramatic reaction, Moro smirked slightly.
"It's okay. Being happy when others struggle is just part of being a kid. But you should work on that habit."
"I was NOT happy!"
Kurt snapped, but his eyes darted away involuntarily.
Moro didn't press the issue and instead pulled out a familiar object.
"Here, your paper fan."
"…"
Kurt stared at the fan but didn't take it right away.
Seeing this, Moro simply shoved it into his hand.
Kurt regained his senses, huffed, and turned his back.
But his mind was anything but calm.
He knew there was a power gap between them—he just never imagined it would be this big.
Would he ever catch up to Moro?
Would he ever step on Moro and make him suffer?
He had only just begun his journey, yet he already doubted himself.
Still… he desperately wanted to know how Moro had killed those two Shadow Beasts.
Damn it! I should've stayed to watch!
Was it that star-mark ability?
At that moment, Kurt suddenly remembered something important.
"One more thing!"
He spun around, trying to look fierce.
Moro raised an eyebrow. "What?"
"Since we're partners now, shouldn't you remove this damn mark?"
Kurt yanked open his robe, revealing the star-shaped mark between his collarbone and shoulder.
Moro looked at it and suddenly had an idea.
"Of course."
He smiled, but inside, he was already calculating.
Kurt felt relieved.
Sure, he could find a Nen exorcist to remove it, but that would take time.
If he could get rid of it right away, even better.
"Hurry up, then."
Kurt urged.
Moro replied, "No rush. There's a condition."
Kurt's eyes narrowed. "What condition?"
Moro smiled.
"You need to dodge three of my attacks within my ability's range—without counterattacking."
"If you get hit, the count resets. And if you fail too many times, the mark will strengthen. Eventually, even I won't be able to remove it."
Kurt's face turned serious.
During their last fight, he only dodged once before the mark appeared.
Now, to remove it, he had to dodge three times under the same conditions.
That seemed fair.
But it still required Moro's cooperation, making it a tricky condition.
"Let's do it now."
Kurt immediately agreed.
Moro chuckled and released his Nen.
"Star Convergence."
In an instant, brilliant starlight flooded the VIP cabin.
Kurt had no time to admire it.
Moro raised his index finger, channeling a tiny flying star at the tip.
Kurt tensed like a cornered animal.
"Here comes the first one."
Moro flicked the star forward.
Kurt was ready to dodge—but then…
The star shattered into dozens of thin spikes, all converging toward him.
"What the—?!"
Kurt froze for half a second—just enough time for the spikes to hit him.
They didn't hurt, but they counted as a hit.
"Why didn't you dodge?" Moro asked, puzzled.
Kurt took a deep breath, then growled:
"Are you FING with me?!"*
Later That Night…
Inside an empty cabin, Moro quietly practiced a new technique.
"Zoldyck's signature movement skill… Limb Bends."
With Kurt's movement data stored in his Star Convergence ability, Moro slowly recreated the technique.
His body gradually adapted to it.
Eventually, his afterimages appeared in the dim light.
"Success."
A smile crept onto Moro's face.
Now… this skill is mine.
