Hunter X Hunter: I Got Stronger After I Died

Chapter 97: Kurt – "You, You...!"

After witnessing the battle, Zetsu Zetsura's perception of Moro had completely changed.

He saw in him a terrifying potential.

Winning against stronger opponents wasn't rare in Nen battles.

Real combat was determined by many factors—such as physical condition, environment, experience, and mental resilience—which sometimes mattered more than aura strength or technique.

But the battle Zetsu Zetsura had just seen wasn't influenced by these external factors.

If anything, the two Shadow Beasts, Earthworm and Dokumushi, had the advantage from the start, launching a coordinated surprise attack while in peak combat condition.

And yet, despite being outnumbered, Moro had completely dominated them.

There was a vast difference between a hard-fought victory and a flawless one.

Had he not seen it with his own eyes, Zetsu Zetsura would have thought it impossible.

Standing behind Batra, Zetsu Zetsura tried to compose himself, but his mind remained shaken.

The sheer impact of this reality was too overwhelming.

The other Nen users from Zetsu Zetsura's group, watching from a distance, were equally stunned.

They had all imagined how they would fare in the fight.

And their conclusion?

They wouldn't have even made it past Earthworm's underground assault.

"He's strong… but it's strange."

The Nen users, dressed in yellow military uniforms, silently observed Moro's aura.

With that level of aura output…

If they hadn't seen the battle, they would have assumed they could beat him easily.

Batra had only heard Zetsu Zetsura's evaluation of Moro—he didn't fully grasp the deeper, more terrifying implications.

Even so, he showed Moro the utmost respect.

Stepping past Zetsu Zetsura, Batra approached Moro directly and extended an invitation.

"I'm Batra. I'm recruiting experts to clear Greed Island. The reward is 50 billion. Are you interested?"

He didn't waste words—he got straight to the point.

Moro was slightly surprised, his gaze briefly flickering toward Zetsu Zetsura, sensing the tension in his stance.

"Not interested."

Turning to look at Batra, Moro rejected the offer without hesitation.

Sure, Greed Island was full of Nen users, and it had prime targets like the Bombers—

But the spell card system introduced too many unpredictable variables.

For leveling up, Greed Island was far from ideal.

Batra wasn't surprised by the swift rejection. He knew persuading him further would be pointless.

Thinking back to Zetsu Zetsura's praise, he couldn't help feeling a little disappointed.

"Here's my card. If you change your mind, contact me anytime."

Not willing to give up entirely, Batra handed Moro a business card.

Moro hesitated for a moment but took it, slipping it into his pocket.

Seeing this, Batra placed a hand over his chest and gave a slight nod.

"I hope we meet again."

With that, Batra turned and walked away, passing Zetsu Zetsura before heading toward the cars on the highway.

Zetsu Zetsura glanced at Moro one last time before silently following Batra.

Moro barely acknowledged their departure, turning his focus back to the wasteland ahead.

The road behind him was the only route from Yorknew City to Rin Palace Airport.

But the Shadow Beasts' ambush had changed his plans—he no longer needed to take that road.

"Time to find Kurt directly."

Walking through the barren, silent wasteland, Moro muttered to himself, pulling out his phone.

He sent Argo a message containing the taxi driver's name and license plate number.

He thought of that talkative driver, who had endlessly rambled about his family—

Despite complaining about the burdens of being the breadwinner, his subtle happiness was impossible to miss.

There was nothing Moro could do to undo the random tragedy that had befallen him.

But he could at least make amends.

He asked Argo to send a large sum of money to the driver's family to ensure they would be taken care of.

If Akesai—his old acquaintance from before death and rebirth—heard about this, he'd probably laugh at him.

But Moro didn't care what others thought.

He only did what let him sleep at night.

Putting his phone away, Moro left the highway behind, stepping deeper into the wasteland.

Towering red rock formations rose around him, accompanied by low, dried-out shrubs.

Effortlessly reaching the top of a rock formation, Moro stretched out his hand, palm facing upward.

His aura swirled like flowing water, then stabilized into a flat, disc-shaped form.

"Flying Star."

He flipped his palm over, and the disc floated downward.

Stepping onto it, Moro rose into the sky.

"Looks like he's on an airship."

Sitting cross-legged on the Flying Star, he stabilized himself with aura as the platform soared upward.

If the Flying Star moved toward the sky, it meant Kurt was likely on an airship.

But when had Kurt boarded it?

And where exactly was the airship now?

Moro could sense that the "Star Mark" was still on Kurt, but his ability didn't provide an exact location or distance.

The core framework of his ability was already established—

With tracking, binding, and long-range attacks forming its main structure.

Adding a "precise location" feature would overload the system, destabilizing the entire ability.

Unless he spent extensive time refining it, it wasn't worth the effort.

For now, he didn't need it.

As he ascended, he remembered how the negative aura from the crypt corpses had been absorbed into the Flying Star.

Unfortunately, he hadn't been able to test it in battle—

Fighting two Shadow Beasts alone left no room for experimentation.

But he could always test it later.

As the clouds drew closer, an idea crossed Moro's mind—

"Maybe I should test the Flying Star's life-draining ability on Kurt?"

The thought came and went quickly.

It wasn't about risking Kurt's life—

It was about not revealing too much about his ability.

Above the clouds.

A large airship cruised steadily through the night sky.

Aside from the bar, most of the ship was quiet, its passengers fast asleep.

Inside a VIP cabin, Kurt was still awake.

Or rather, he didn't need much sleep.

That was how he trained harder—

A principle drilled into him as a Zoldyck assassin.

After all, this was a family that subjected newborns to electric torture.

Kurt was already used to it.

"Ren."

He closed his eyes, pushing his Nen to its limit.

Still not strong enough… He had to keep going…

Moro's image flashed through his mind.

His aura wavered, becoming unstable.

Kurt slowly opened his eyes, frowning deeply.

Silent on the outside, Kurt was fiercely competitive.

Born into the Zoldyck family, it was unclear whether this trait was a blessing or a curse.

It hardened his resolve, keeping him from breaking under brutal training—

But it also became a form of self-inflicted torment.

His defeat against Moro, and the humiliating mercy he had been shown, had deeply wounded his pride.

Even after a full day, it still haunted him, interfering with his training.

"Just you wait!"

Clenching his fists, Kurt exhaled sharply, forcing himself to focus.

Unlike Milluki, who had locked himself away for six years, Kurt was hungry to improve.

But that same drive also amplified his internal pressure.

Pressure could be fuel for progress—or a crushing weight.

To cope, Kurt had his own unique method.

He closed his eyes and visualized the future—

A day when he was strong enough to crush Moro under his foot.

He saw himself standing over a defeated Moro, his face twisted in shame and frustration.

Raising his paper fan, he smirked down at him.

"Relax. I'm not interested in crushing an insect."

Heh heh heh…

A smug grin spread across Kurt's face.

Suddenly, a voice came from the window.

"What is it?"

"…?"

"…!"

"Σ(°△°|||)"

Kurt turned—

Outside the slightly open window, Moro was crouching there, watching him.

His expression shifted in an instant—

From confusion to shock to outright panic.

"You, you…!"

Never in his wildest dreams did he expect the very person he had just been gloating over in his head…

To appear right in front of him.
