I Became a Police Officer in a Superhero Genre

Chapter 50 - Even the Police in This World Have Jinxes(8)

I think I heard somewhere that human intelligence rises tremendously, albeit momentarily, when facing a crisis.

Like developing superhuman strength to move a wall in a crisis situation, or being able to run incredibly fast. You know, the kind of thing you might have heard somewhere on the internet.

I think I’m in that state now. The original knowledge scattered like fragments in my hazy memory. More precisely, information about Park Jung-hoon started to urgently coalesce and return to its original form.

Park Jung-hoon. Later villain name Train. Even before becoming a superpower user, he was human scum who would do anything for money, including human trafficking, fraud, contract killings, murder, etc.

He accidentally awakened as a superpower user. After that, whether he died or what, the official record ends with him going quiet as a mouse and his whereabouts becoming unknown.

But according to the novel, his disappearance was planned. After gaining superpowers, he thought. Couldn’t he make money with this?

Park Jung-hoon bastard planned to change his appearance through plastic surgery when the sudden emergence of superpower users calmed down, and make money by doing cult-like activities with his superpower, but.

As the world gradually became a mess and crimes by superpower users, social problems, and discrimination issues between ordinary people intensified, making the country a mess, that bastard thought.

Oh, I could expand this a bit more, couldn’t I?

According to the novel, at first he wasn’t plotting crazy things like trying to overthrow the country, as Yunari said.

He simply planned to put the Chosen Ones civic group on the surface while behind it, entangling people who followed him like a god in a pseudo-religion, continuing his criminal business as before.

He intended to build connections with political circles, expand his base, and even eye the political world to gather money – but isn’t that how humans are?

When you gain power and money, you want more than you have, and as that happens, your sense of reality gradually goes bad.

This bastard really started to delude himself that he was some king of superpower users, and that superpower users are superior to non-superpower users and whatnot.

Park Jung-hoon, whose insanity intensified, eventually aimed to overthrow the country through real terrorism, and tried to use innocent superpower users to achieve what he wanted, but was defeated by New Hope.

Afterwards, Park Jung-hoon was arrested, but those who had been fighting purely for superpower users’ human rights were enraged that he had betrayed them and attacked the police station to kill him.

With Park Jung-hoon’s murder, this country eventually falls into complete chaos – that was the original novel’s development.

Looking at it like this, this bastard doesn’t seem that dangerous compared to other super villains so far, except for gathering superpower users, but that’s not true.

This bastard is the most dangerous among the villains that have appeared so far. He doesn’t have overwhelming power like Food Ghost, or the ability to enchant people like Dokkaebi, nor does he have money and wealth like that Minus guy.

But this bastard’s ability ‘Passing On’ makes even the strongest superpower users hesitate to face him, except for Sai.

What this Passing On is, is literally the ability to pass on one’s own, or someone else’s misfortune to someone in the world.

It’s an invincible ability where Park Jung-hoon can remain fine even if he’s attacked, falls ill, or has bad luck, by passing it on to someone in the world.

Moreover, the target of the passing on is someone that the person attacking Park Jung-hoon thinks of first. So probabilistically, an acquaintance or family member of the person attacking Park Jung-hoon gets hurt instead of Park Jung-hoon.

Do you understand how terrifying and shitty it is to deal with this bastard? If you attack him, someone among the attacker’s acquaintances will receive the wounds Park Jung-hoon should have received instead.

The reason New Hope was able to defeat such a petty bastard was by using the fact that the standard for the person being passed on to is someone thought of first.

New Hope thought only of herself, turning the passed on attacks back to herself, while at the same time striking attacks beyond the limit of what this bastard’s ability could pass on, and won, according to the novel.

The novel described it as an unreasonable feat only possible in a state of losing reason, not caring about destroying oneself.

It was possible because the special investigation team detective ‘Sai’, who was the only one who believed in New Hope when she first faced Park Jung-hoon, fell into critical condition as the target of passing on.

-Thinking about it, it was really miserable. The original Mina had no one to rely on except Sai, who was disguised as a special investigation team detective, so she felt great guilt when Sai was injured.

When New Hope went to apologize saying she was sorry after defeating Park Jung-hoon, that Sai bitch berated New Hope’s character, saying she’s ultimately someone who hurts people.

While Mina was bewildered hearing such words, Sai came out as the mastermind behind everything so far, laughing while showing the collapsing society.

Sai had just treated Mina well to see her fall apart. To think Mina had no one to trust except that Sai bitch.

The author bastard is clearly a bastard with a filthy personality. Giving the only person who could be trusted to a lonely child with no family or friends, but that bastard turns out to be the mastermind of the world setting.

I wonder if the author has some strange fetish. Honestly, looking at this mess makes me suspicious.

“You look like you’re thinking a lot. I certainly surprised you. I apologize.”

Fuck.

My attempt to turn my eyes away from the situation unfolding before me failed.

I slowly got up from the white tiled floor and looked around. The interior of about 30 pyeong was clean. The white LED lights shone so brightly it hurt my eyes.

The only things inside were sofas and chairs that could be commonly seen anywhere, but the problem was that inside were Tracker, Hydrokinetic,
and famous super villains whose names would be known if mentioned in Korea, smiling ferociously at me. Cold sweat runs down my spine.

I don’t know why these bastards kidnapped me – but they didn’t kidnap me to serve me tea or something, right?

Shi-pal. So this is how I die.

I narrowed my brows for a moment looking at Park Jung-hoon, then said seeing his smiling face:

“The invitation wasn’t comfortable, fuck.”

“Haha, I apologize. We also didn’t expect to meet Detective in a place like this and made a mistake. Because there was something I really wanted to tell you. That’s why we invited you even like this.”

Park Jung-hoon calmly smiled and crouched in front of me, then took something out from inside that unfunny robe. What gleamed under the lights was a dagger about as long as a man’s palm.

So he was going to dispose of me after all. I bit my lip looking at that dagger.

In this moment where it wouldn’t be strange if I died right away. Is it a detective’s habit? Even in this situation, I find myself pondering why he wants to kill me.

Has my recent fame been a nuisance to that bastard’s plans? Or is my death itself the goal? There’s certainly a possibility.

Current society has serious discrimination against superpower users, but there hasn’t been an incident like the human-centric bishop being found not guilty as in the original. In other words, there hasn’t been an incident that could serve as a ‘trigger’ as they say.

I hate to admit it, but thanks to my hard work, the human-centric bishop bastard died, and while solving cases for people who came saying they experienced unfair treatment, a somewhat good image of the police has built up, so it’s difficult for things to flow the same as the original –

But what if I, who has built up a good image even among superpower users, am killed by those easily called superpower haters?

Moreover, if those criminal bastards spout nonsense about helping superpower users? Normally, it would end with people mourning me a bit and feeling upset.

But if this bastard, who is the representative of the Chosen Ones where many superpower users are gathered, instigates – it could become a trigger for superpower users to get angry like in the original.

It makes me feel disgustingly dirty that my death would be used for instigation. But I can’t pretend to be crazy and charge in here right now.

What did I really do wrong in my life?

“I thought a lot seeing your activities. Can there be harmony between non-superpower users and superpower users? Are we really the same humans?”

Park Jung-hoon babbled incomprehensible words and forcibly made me grip the dagger in my left hand. Does he mean for me to struggle?

I know from the start that attacks won’t work, but if I had attacked without knowing, someone among my acquaintances would have been stabbed by the knife. Why are all these damn super villain bastards so nasty?

“After deep contemplation, we thought that humans and superpower users are different beings, but there’s still hope. Yes. Because there are people like you. But the world can’t live on such hope alone.”

When I tried to throw away the knife he forcibly made me hold, he made me grip it again and grabbed my arm.

This fucker. He’s fucking strong. Not overwhelmingly strong but at a level that can’t be ignored. This bastard seems to be the annoyingly strong type too.

My hand trembles. In a situation where I can’t pull out the hand forcibly holding the knife, nor can I push it away, he raised his hand.

He raised his other hand in that state. Park Jung-hoon bastard’s arm moving slowly.

Even in the meantime, my head moves quickly to question the current situation. Come to think of it, how did this bastard know I was near Yunari?

Even if Hydrokinetic has the ability to move anywhere there’s water, that doesn’t mean he can know everything.

But that bastard kidnapped me as soon as I went near water, as if he had been waiting. Does that mean these bastards were monitoring the contract killer bastards?

Then – Yunari is in danger too. No fuck, what am I worrying about others for when I’m about to die?

My thoughts spin around. Meanwhile, that bastard placed his hand on top of the dagger in my left hand. This bastard, don’t tell me he’s planning to reveal his ability?

It seems he wants to enjoy telling me his ability and letting me know I hurt my acquaintance.

Fucking bastard. Damn bastard. I tried to pull my arm out somehow. I tried to stop it by bringing my right arm too, but when my right arm wrapped in bandages touched my left arm, pain like being sliced by a knife ran through it.

Because of that, I forgot about the strength I was originally applying and fell backwards. That bastard nonchalantly pierced his hand with the dagger I was holding while grabbing my left arm.

I hurriedly tried to do exactly as Mina did, thinking about myself, but no wound appeared on my hand.

Only an unpleasant sensation of flesh being pierced beyond the handle stabbed my brain, and my brows furrowed, but strangely, not a single drop of blood flowed from that bastard’s hand.

The blade that cleanly pierced through the palm without any resistance seemed like an hallucination.

Fuck, fuck! Who did that wound get passed on to?! While grinding my teeth and glaring at that bastard. Suddenly I felt a sense of discomfort in my body.

The pain in my leg that made my body stiffen whenever I tried to move was no longer felt, and the discomfort and pain that had been following my right arm disappeared.

I blankly got up. My leg moves fine. And my right arm too – when I unwrapped the bandages to check, the arm that had looked like a meatball made by Englishmen was in the shape of a normal person’s arm.

“… What is this-”

“It’s my ability, Detective.”

Park Jung-hoon spoke as I was looking at my right arm with a face like a sparrow hit by a slingshot. He seemed to want to show a holy-looking appearance with pigeon wings spread on his back.

But I didn’t care about that shit. This bastard’s ability is passing on. Park Jung-hoon’s ability can not only pass on misfortunes directed at himself, but also gather and pass on others’ misfortunes.

I knew he could deliberately make someone attack him like now and then pass on all the diseases or disabilities that attacker had to someone else.

I also knew he gathered people who would blindly follow his words by bestowing grace in that way.

But why to me? Does he think I’ll follow his words?

That bastard looked down at me with a detestably benevolent smile. What the hell is this? When I questioned with my eyes, he opened his mouth.

“Detective. Would you listen to me for a moment? The people here are not gathered for the purpose you think.”

Park Jung-hoon slowly walked past the super villains inside. Bastards who view human lives as trash. They were all looking at me with meaningful smiles.

Those bastards’ faces don’t look anything like the kind of people you’re talking about, you fucker.
I glared back at those bastards. Park Jung-hoon continued speaking.

“Everyone makes mistakes. Especially when society, the world, is this chaotic. I know too. That everyone here has made big mistakes. But I thought.”

“Even if you made a mistake, there’s a chance for forgiveness, and to fight for a better world, sometimes you need to fight even beyond legal and moral standards.”

“And these people are righteous people who understand my intentions and want to fight together for a better world.”

What the hell is this son of a bitch babbling about now?

It sounds plausible at first listen, but enjoying killing people isn’t a fucking mistake!

And it’s even more nonsense when the bastard saying those words is someone who would dismember and sell even children if there was money in it! But I couldn’t say those words in the current situation.

I couldn’t understand why this bastard suddenly healed my arm, and in that situation, angering those bastards would do no good.

My teeth grind, but how many times have I almost been fucked for wagging my tongue wrongly until now? It’s time I learned to be careful.

Come to think of it, I’ll die no matter what I do, so should I just say what I want to say and die?

“I understand. You can’t comprehend it. But we didn’t bring you here to hurt you, but to cheer on you who fights for a better world, and to clear up misunderstandings about us.”

While I was pondering what to do, he made a big circle around the room and stood behind me. Then he looked at my hand and flapped his wings wide. The fallen white feathers dropped near my face, making me uncomfortable.

“We are not villains. I just needed people with power, for the human rights of superpower users. I know you can’t believe these words right away.

That’s why we healed your injury like this, and wanted to let you know about us.”

He puts his hand on my shoulder and starts whispering from behind. While his outward appearance imitates Jesus, the words he’s spouting feel like a well-crafted devil’s whisper.

No, the nonsense is nonsense, but I can’t stand him breathing in my ear. I twisted my face and glared at him. But he just smiled.

At that smile, I realized. This fucking bastard did it on purpose. That’s what I thought.
Fucking pigeon wing bastard. I gritted my teeth.
