Chapter 4
Several days have passed.
It all started as a survival adventure on a deserted island in the middle of nowhere.
But with me becoming the strongest creature around, including in the sea, there’s not much of a sense of desperation.
I easily dispatched aggressive fish around 2 meters long.
Eating them raw felt a bit strange, but after having eaten dragon meat, nothing seems too surprising anymore.
The fish tasted surprisingly good, with plenty of fat like yellowtail, and not too fishy.
I did start craving some wasabi and soy sauce, but it’s no use wishing for what I don’t have, so I’ll just endure it.
The Dragon House turned out to be quite livable.
Despite being partially enclosed, there’s no strange smell of blood or stickiness, and there’s enough space for me to roll around in the abdominal area.
However, it’s a bit difficult to sleep because it’s subtly swaying.
Upon investigation, I realized it’s because there’s a gentle breeze coming from the wings.
—If water dragons are water, then dragons are wind, huh?
As I pondered inside the house… I suddenly had an idea.
Or rather, I realized something.
The membrane of the dragon’s wings is much thinner compared to the scaled skin.
—Could this be used as clothing?
I immediately took out a dragon’s claw and began cutting the membrane.
It’s not quite fabric, but the thin, pale green membrane is surprisingly sturdy and suitable for wearing.
“All right!”
With the cut-out wing membrane in hand, I start making clothes with determination.
Of course, I can’t make proper clothes.
But if it’s a primitive garment, I can manage.
A poncho.
It’s something like what people wore in the Yayoi period.
I adjust the width and length of the membrane, fold it in half, and punch a hole in the center.
Separately, I twist thin strips of the membrane to make a rope.
I put my head through the hole in the membrane, tie the rope around the waist, and voila! Dragon garment complete.
Technically, it’s a Dragon (wing membrane) poncho, but that’s too confusing and sounds uncool, so I’ll pass.
“Hmm…”
Trying it on, it doesn’t feel too bad.
The hem isn’t very neat because I used a claw to cut it, but it’s decent enough.
“But, you can see my chest and thighs from the side… Was a poncho supposed to look like this?”
And thanks to its wind-calling property, the hem keeps fluttering, making me feel like my lower body isn’t properly covered. But if it’s not visible to my own eyes, it’s fine. It’s not an immediate issue.
“…I could really use some pants.”
It’s a matter of pride as a civilized person, so I definitely need them. It’s scary how quickly I’m getting used to this.
Anyway, the issues of clothing, food, and shelter are resolved.
Now, I need to think about what to do next.
“But… what should I do from here?”
Waiting for help on this island is out of the question.
If this place is some undiscovered part of Earth, there might be a chance of rescue.
But, I’ve never heard of dragons or water dragons existing in modern times.
“I’d be more willing to believe it’s another world… In that case, I won’t count on rescue.”
Besides, there might not even be any humans around.
This place might not be advanced enough to send out ships here.
And even if they were, they might be too hostile or isolationist to help.
So, waiting for rescue is not an option.
“I’ll aim for land. That’s the goal for now.”
Once I reach land, I can determine if there are people around.
If there are people and a certain level of civilization, I might be able to figure out a way back to my original world.
Even if there are no people, just reaching land would be better than this deserted island. If there are dragons, I’d love to eat them again. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. My excitement is rising.
“The problem is, how do I get to land…”
I don’t have a boat.
And even if I wanted to make one, there’s no wood. I’m at a loss.
Well, it’s not like I have no means at all.
Perhaps due to eating the water dragon, I can now breathe underwater.
So, I could walk along the ocean floor to reach land.
But there’s one fundamental problem.
“I don’t even know which direction the land is…”
It’s a major issue.
Since there are no birds flying in the sky, I have no idea where the land might be.
Let’s imagine.
For example, let’s say this is Oki-no-Tori Island.
In a situation where I have no idea which direction to go, would I be able to reach Japan? It seems tough.
If this were the actual Oki-no-Tori Island, there might be something written on a structure or some clues to the land.
“Oh, and if I’m walking, I won’t have access to fresh water…”
Realizing this, I sigh.
I’m currently getting fresh water from the water dragon’s remains, but I definitely can’t carry this while walking.
Well, I could carry it while walking, but if I get soaked in seawater, I won’t be able to collect fresh water.
“…I’m in quite a predicament.”
I mutter, but I don’t feel any sense of urgency.
Thanks to the unintended consequence of becoming superhuman, I can’t help but feel relaxed.
“Hmm…”
No good ideas come to mind, so I lie down on the rocky surface.
The sun is strong, but it’s not hot. This is probably also due to eating the dragon.
“Dragons were delicious…”
I remember that exquisite taste.
It was so delicious that it shook my soul, even without any cooking.
As I think about it, I can’t help but wonder how delicious it would be if I cooked it.
Just thinking about it makes my mouth water.
The fish isn’t bad either.
Especially the large fish, around 2 meters long, tasted like a delicious amberjack.
But compared to the dragon, everything else pales in comparison.
Even the most expensive Kobe beef steak I had tasted wasn’t as impactful.
“I’d love to eat dragons again if I could reach land…”
As I think about this, I absentmindedly gaze up at the sky.
“Clouds.”
In the corner of my vision, I spot some strange clouds.
They’re not ordinary clouds.
They’re thick and black, like cumulonimbus clouds.
Occasionally, they flash with lightning, indicating a heavy downpour underneath. It looks like smoke.
“The wind is blowing… this way. Looks like it’s going to rain pretty hard.”
I’m a bit concerned about the dragon house and the water dragon, but with just bones inside, it should be fine.
“But just in case, I should tie the water dragon’s tail around the dragon’s neck.”
This place seems to have dragons and water dragons.
There’s a possibility of extraordinary natural phenomena, so it’s important to be prepared.
It feels like I’ve created some kind of bizarre object, but it’s my home.
About an hour later, the sky suddenly darkens.
After a while, heavy rain starts pouring down.
The wind is strong, and I’m worried the house might get blown away, but strangely, the dragon house doesn’t budge.
Perhaps the wings have some kind of wind-resistant property.
If so, it was a good call to tie the water dragon to the dragon house.
With those thoughts in mind, I fell asleep that day.
The next day, when I woke up, it was sunny and clear.
But it wasn’t just sunny. There was something unusual on the island.
Pieces of wood barrels and what seemed to be debris from a ship were washed ashore.
“Oh, a barrel! Artificial objects! That confirms there’s an advanced civilization!”
I cheerfully pick up the washed-up barrel.
“2, 3, 4… 5 barrels. And the remains of a ship’s skeleton. It must have been a huge ship! It seems to have sunk!”
First, I haul all the barrels onto land and start inspecting their contents.
“Oh, dried meat, fish… and something that looks like wine?”
Food! My spirits soar.
Even though they’re preserved foods and the taste might not be great, they come with salt. Which means I can cook!
“Hmm hmm. I wonder what’s next.”
Humming to myself, I open the last barrel.
Upon opening it, I’m speechless.
“A cat?”
Inside the barrel was a brown kitten.
