Chapter 26: To Grow
Huff… Huff…
Saeko collapsed onto the ground, her entire body drenched in sweat.
Her chest rose and fell rapidly as she looked up at Orochimaru—or rather, his shadow clone, since the real one was busy elsewhere.
She had asked for this fight. No ninjutsu. Just pure kenjutsu. And, of course, he had no reason to refuse.
But even knowing how strong he was, she still couldn't believe it.
His movements were too refined. Too sharp. Too lethal.
She had always been confident in her swordsmanship, but now? Now she was beginning to understand what it meant to face a true shinobi.
They were trained to kill with every motion.
And Orochimaru… he wasn't just any shinobi.
A veteran of two wars.
The second-highest in recorded mission completions.
Not just a jack of all trades—
But a master of many.
While he couldn't match true kenjutsu masters like Sakumo, he was still top-class in the art.
His precision, his efficiency—every strike was calculated, every movement designed to kill.
Even now, as she struggled to catch her breath, Saeko knew…
She had barely scratched the surface of his skill.
"I... I need to ask you something."
Saeko finally found her voice, pushing past her exhaustion. This was her moment.
But the clone didn't need her to continue.
"You want to follow me."
It wasn't a question.
His golden eyes, calm and knowing, met hers without hesitation.
"To my world."
Saeko tried to keep her reaction in check, but she couldn't hide the flicker of shock in her eyes.
Yes.
That was exactly what she wanted.
The apocalypse had stripped away the rules of civilisation, leaving only the strong to survive. Here, she could kill freely. No judgment. No hesitation. But… she knew.
She had already hit a ceiling.
No matter how many undead she cut down, no matter how much blood soaked her blade, her growth here would be limited.
But in his world?
In a world built on war, death, and power—
She could become something more.
A real warrior. A real killer.
A real monster.
How could Orochimaru not see the excitement on her face?
The slight parting of her lips. The way her fingers twitched, like she was already imagining gripping a sword in a real battle.
She wanted this.
"You know you'll follow the same path as Saya, don't you?"
Saeko stilled.
Of course, she understood. There would be no other option.
To follow him was to surrender. To give up her freedom, her choices—her very will.
A slave.
But did she really have a choice?
Not if she wanted power.
Not if she wanted to grow.
Not if she wanted more than this dying world could ever offer her.
She was willing to risk everything for that. Even her life.
"I am rea—"
Before she could finish her sentence, she was cut off.
"Don't be in a rush to answer," Orochimaru said smoothly. "Let's have some training first. That way, you can change your decision if you wish."
Saeko opened her mouth to protest—to say she had already made up her mind—but stopped herself.
It wasn't a bad idea.
In fact, it might be exactly what she needed.
Yes ,she nodded getting up.
Go to my lab , saying this the clone burst in cloud.
Saeko took a slow, deep breath.
The sweat cooling on her skin, the ache in her muscles, the dull burn of exhaustion—none of it mattered.
She wanted more.
This was the path she had chosen.
While Saeko was lost in her fantasies of strength and battle, Orochimaru was handling another case.
Shizuka stood behind him, watching as he examined a vial of liquid under the dim light.
She crossed her arms, her usual airheaded expression replaced by something more serious.
"I didn't expect you to actually make the antidote," she murmured.
Orochimaru didn't look up. His long fingers turned the vial slowly, the liquid inside swirling with an almost hypnotic motion.
"You expected me to let her die?"
"No… but I thought you might use it as leverage. Keep her on the brink to make Saya more obedient."
A low chuckle escaped him. "You assume I need such crude methods to keep her in line."
Shizuka frowned. He wasn't wrong. Saya had already bound herself to him the moment she made the deal. Yuriko's survival was just an additional layer of control.
And yet, he had still saved her.
"Why, then?" she asked.
Orochimaru finally turned, meeting her gaze with his piercing golden eyes.
Shizuka let out a small breath of relief.
She wouldn't say it out loud, but… she was grateful.
Even if the man before her was dangerous. Even if he was a monster.
As she left the room, Orochimaru watched her retreating form, a faint smirk tugging at his lips.
"Hmm… interesting."
Two in one.
