After Yolanda ran to the entrance for some unknown reason with an angry expression, Zhang Ge encountered no further obstacles in his subsequent actions. After briefly acquainting himself with the surrounding allied forces, he returned to his vehicle.

Didn't see Yolanda... Is this guy slacking off?

However, as Zhang Ge approached the vehicle, a rapid tapping sound suddenly rang out, seemingly coming from beneath the car.

Before he could react, the vehicle's chassis lifting system activated on its own.

A dust-covered figure in red robes emerged from under the car—undoubtedly, it was Yolanda. Zhang Ge raised an eyebrow slightly and asked with some confusion:

"What, were you about to be eaten by the car?"

The other party didn't respond. Without even wiping off the grease, Yolanda had a mechanical arm retrieve a set of ritual tools from his backpack. He then turned and prostrated himself before the vehicle, chanting incomprehensible scriptures while performing an intricate ritual.

Is this to appease the machine spirit? So my car was fine when I drove it here, and you managed to break it while fixing it, huh?

Of course, this only made Zhang Ge even more satisfied.

With such a hidden dragon, why worry about not dying? It's truly like a fish encountering a water mine. If this had happened back on the battlefield, would I still be alive today?

Naturally, he had no intention of disturbing her. After informing the captain of the guard of their destination and letting them board the vehicle first, he found a spot to sit and watched her bow repeatedly.

Time passed minute by minute, and after repeating the process several times, she finally stood up slowly, looking exhausted.

"Finished?"

Hearing Zhang Ge's words, she turned around and replied:

"First, to answer your earlier question: your vehicle is in surprisingly good condition. I suspect some parts are relics from an earlier era."

"After conducting some inspections, the vehicle's chassis lifted on its own, as if the machine spirit was inviting me underneath. But when I went under, for some unknown reason, I ended up angering the machine spirit and got pinned beneath the vehicle."

Yolanda explained with a blank expression. Despite her serious tone, the dirt smeared on her face made it hard to create any sense of tension.

Although there was some history between them, out of a sense of responsibility as both a Tech-Priest and a Ministrant, she continued to warn him:

"Without further investigation into the cause, I wouldn't recommend you continue riding in this vehicle."

Upon hearing this, Zhang Ge chuckled, not holding any grudge against her:

"It's fine, as long as no one got hurt. Did anything else happen to the vehicle besides the Machine Spirit?"

"No, it's as if the other parts were never used, but that in itself is the anomaly."

"There's no time to switch vehicles now. How about this? You and I get on together, so if anything goes wrong, we can keep an eye on it."

Hearing this, Yolanda hesitated. On the psychological scale that determined her decision, responsibility and the opportunity to explore unknown mechanical technology were placed on either end.

After hesitating for a full 0.01 seconds, Yolanda replied:

"Alright."

To hell with it, if I die, I die. Let me first see what the principle is.

Within 0.01 seconds, the scale was decisively tipped in favor of the thirst for knowledge to explore the unknown.

Without another word, Zhang Ge and Yolanda took their seats in the driver's and passenger's positions respectively.

The next destination was the predetermined recruitment point, a location they had previously discussed, and where the Titan would ultimately head as well.

Indeed, they had decided to take advantage of the parade and the Titan's momentum to conduct voluntary recruitment for the 1st Mechanized Infantry Regiment. Zhang Ge, of course, had no objections to this.

A joke, who doesn't know the reputation of the Astra Militarum? In normal times, it's not a problem, as the treatment is relatively good compared to ordinary people, and the status is quite high—at least considered a currency rather than the mud stuck under the shoes of those who spend money.

But now, with Chaos almost at their doorstep, those who needed to be conscripted had already been drafted several times over, and the front lines had collapsed once. Waves of disheveled, limbless Astra Militarum soldiers were retreating. And now they're talking about voluntary recruitment?

It's not a matter of willingness—with so many people, there will always be some willing to serve. The issue is meeting the qualifications. You can't just pull any civilian off the street and send them to fight. Temporary conscription only lowers the standards for military skills, but the requirements for willpower, resistance to corruption, and other aspects are much higher.

Otherwise, hand them a gun, and within seconds on the battlefield, they might turn it on their comrades. That would be like shooting yourself in the foot.

These matters were certainly not only known to Zhang Ge himself; others in the hive city were also aware. Those without the capability would be tormented through the conscription process, and it would take at least four or five days to recover afterward. Moreover, factory owners and the like wouldn't grant such a long sick leave.

By then, there might be very few people willing to come. After all, if so many qualified individuals could be conscripted, why wouldn't the other understaffed Imperial Guard and PDF forces recruit them? Did they simply not like the idea?

This was a sure thing. It would probably take quite some time to complete the conscription.

Watching the vehicle in front of him in the convoy slowly start and move off, Zhang Ge spoke to the dashboard ahead:

"Maintain the same speed as the vehicle in front."

Yolanda thought he was speaking to her and asked in confusion:

"What?..."

Before she could finish her sentence, the sound of the vehicle's engine came through, and the car began to accelerate almost without delay, matching the speed of the vehicle ahead as instructed.

Hearing her reaction, Zhang Ge asked:

"What's wrong?"

For a moment, Yolanda was overwhelmed by two simultaneous revelations: that Zhang Ge could communicate directly with the machine spirit through speech, and that the machine spirit actually obeyed his commands. Her thoughts overloaded, and she even began to stammer:

"You... this... driving by talking... why?"

Now it was Zhang Ge who was puzzled. He explained as if it were the most natural thing in the world:

"What do you mean why? Of course, it's the voice input function. Aren't you a tech-priest? How could you not know this?"

"Voice input? But the model of this vehicle..."

Before she could finish her sentence, perhaps due to an accidental touch from sitting uncomfortably, the seatback suddenly reclined, causing her body to tilt backward abruptly and interrupting what she was about to say.

As the vehicle hit some obstacle, a rare jolt shook the car, and the bolter casually placed on the back seat shifted slightly in direction.

Through a series of coincidences, the bolter happened to be seen by Yolanda as she turned her head to look for the adjustment knob, with the barrel now pointing directly at her head.

Zhang Ge's voice came at just the right moment:

"What about the model?"

Yolanda stared at the barrel and slowly turned her head back:

"Uh... the model... it's actually one that's been modified with voice input. It's very rare."
