Chapter 54: Episode 54: The Light King's Gambit
Ren stood at the towering gates of the Light King's palace, a foreboding sense of power radiating from inside. His resolve was unshakable, though the weight of what was about to come pressed on him. Behind him, Shigan and Sakayanagi remained at the edge of the city, recovering from the brutal battle with the Light Guardians. This time, Ren chose to face the king alone.
He stepped forward, pushing open the enormous golden doors. The throne room stretched out before him, gleaming with brilliant beams of light that seemed to hum with divine energy. And there, at the far end, seated on a throne of pure light, was the Light King. His presence was overwhelming, his form surrounded by a blinding halo of radiance.
The king's voice was smooth, but there was an undercurrent of menace beneath it. "You've come far, young warrior," the Light King said, his eyes narrowing as he stared at Ren. "But you've come for something that does not belong to you."
Ren raised his chin defiantly. "I've come for the Light Stone. Your guardians failed to stop us, and now, I'm taking it."
The Light King slowly rose from his throne, his golden robes shimmering as he stepped down. His face was impassive, but his eyes burned with intensity. "You're bold to challenge me, boy. But you are gravely mistaken if you think you can simply take the Light Stone from me."
Without another word, the king raised his hand, a ball of intense energy forming in his palm. The light grew blindingly bright, and in an instant, he unleashed a powerful beam of concentrated light straight at Ren.
"Judgment Ray!" the king bellowed, the beam crackling with destructive energy.
The beam struck Ren directly, but something was wrong. The impact didn't scatter his body—there was no cry of pain. Instead, Ren's form dissolved into dark mist, and from the shadows behind the throne, several more Ren figures emerged, grinning.
"You missed," one of the clones said, smirking as dozens of identical copies of Ren began to appear around the room, multiplying into a full army of shadowy clones.
"One down," said another clone, forming from the shadows near a pillar.
"And nine hundred ninety-nine to go," another added, circling closer to the Light King.
The Light King's eyes widened for a split second, but he quickly composed himself, standing tall as his aura flared. "You think you can trick me with illusions? Clones are but a child's game."
The Light King unleashed another attack, this time waving his arm in a wide arc, sending a barrage of light beams scattering in all directions. "Celestial Barrage!"
The beams of light tore through the clones, disintegrating them one by one in flashes of blinding brightness. But more and more Ren figures kept appearing, weaving between the beams, moving toward the pedestal where the Light Stone rested.
The Light King's attacks continued to decimate the clones, but Ren had planned for this. The original Ren, hidden among the horde of shadow clones, watched as they swarmed the throne room. Each clone worked in perfect coordination, distracting the Light King with feints, while others made their way closer to the Light Stone.
Finally, one of the clones reached the stone. With a swift, precise motion, he grabbed it from its pedestal. As the clone held it high, another clone jumped up and caught the Light Stone mid-air, tossing it toward the real Ren, who had been waiting just at the edge of the chaos.
The Light King's attention snapped to the stone, his face contorting with rage. "No!" he shouted, sending a wave of light energy surging across the room, vaporizing more clones in an instant.
But it was too late.
Ren caught the stone, feeling its warm, radiant power surge through his body. The moment his fingers touched it, his entire form seemed to ripple with dark energy. Without hesitating, Ren activated one of his more advanced shadow techniques.
"Shade Veil."
The light in the room dimmed, shadows spreading across the walls and floor like liquid darkness. Ren's body shimmered for a moment before he vanished from sight, completely invisible.
The Light King's eyes widened in disbelief. "Where…?" He spun around, searching for any trace of Ren, but there was nothing—only the fading remains of the shadow clones, crumbling to dust. His power flared up in frustration as he sent beams of light in all directions, trying to reveal Ren's location, but his efforts were in vain.
Ren had disappeared entirely.
Hidden within the shadows, Ren moved silently, watching the furious Light King continue to lash out in frustration. A small smile formed on Ren's lips. He had the Light Stone, and the king had no idea where he was.
The battle wasn't over yet, but for now, Ren had outplayed the Light King. The stone was his, and with it, they were one step closer to completing their quest.
But as he prepared to retreat, Ren's mind churned with thoughts of what would come next. The Light King was no ordinary opponent. And though Ren had succeeded in his first gambit, he knew there would be consequences for stealing the stone.
With a final glance at the raging Light King, Ren silently made his way toward the exit, the Light Stone securely in his grasp.
