Chapter 37: Chapter 35 Return (Part 1)
New World, Cake Island
King, known for his resolute style, usually solves problems with force. However, this is the territory of the Four Emperors, and Kaido had instructed him to avoid conflicts if possible. So, he is attempting to communicate peacefully, though his occasional arrogance still irritates the proud Charlotte Family.
Katakuri looked at King for a while and said, "It seems you still haven't adjusted your attitude, King! Our mother doesn't meet outsiders casually. Even you can't see her easily!"
"And who are you to summon Charlotte Linlin?"
With this, the surrounding soldiers instantly aimed their weapons at King and L'Aquila, creating a tense atmosphere.
King frowned and asked coldly, "Are you sure you want to do this? If you can bear the consequences, go ahead."
A flash of red appeared in Katakuri's eyes. He foresaw the tragic deaths of several of his siblings at the hands of King and L'Aquila. He frowned and slowly raised his hand to stop everyone.
Seeing this, King's disdain was evident, and he said, "If you're done with your theatrics, ask your captain for instructions! I can wait!"
After a moment of silence, Katakuri said, "Let's go inside and talk."
Led by the Charlotte Family members, King and L'Aquila entered the Cake Castle.
In the majestic castle, a huge empty throne stood, but the Four Emperors Charlotte Linlin was nowhere to be seen. King asked, "Why isn't there anyone who can make decisions?"
Katakuri walked straight up, sat on the throne, crossed his legs, and said, "Mom has authorized me to handle this. If you have anything to say, say it to me!"
King noted that the other Charlotte Family members showed no surprise, confirming Katakuri's authority. "That's convenient," he said. "I'm here to invite your pirate group to Wano Country to participate in the New Onigashima founding ceremony on behalf of Governor Kaido. We also need to discuss forming an alliance between our two families."
Katakuri raised his hand and interrupted, "Wait, an alliance? Us? Are you serious?"
The other Charlotte Family members laughed.
King's eyes turned cold. "Whether we like it or not, this is a decision made by our leaders. Do you disagree, or do you not know about it at all? Big Mom should have informed you of such an important matter, unless..."
Mont-d'Or anxiously interjected, "Of course, Mama mentioned it, but we all think it's nonsense!"
King's brows furrowed, suspecting internal issues within the Charlotte Family. "Can I meet your captain directly?" he asked.
Katakuri looked at King's suspicious expression, glanced at the nervous Mont-d'Or, and said, "I already told you, Mama has no interest in meeting outsiders unless Kaido comes in person!"
King was silent for a moment. "Okay, please pass this invitation to her!" A white shadow shot from his hand, embedding deeply into the armrest of the throne.
"What strong Haki! He turned a soft piece of paper into a weapon!" Everyone was shocked, knowing the deadly power of that piece of paper.
"I thought you would catch it! This way, nothing gets broken!" King looked at Katakuri with a hint of provocation.
Katakuri ignored the invitation, staring at King. "Do you have anything else?"
King continued, "In addition to invitations and alliance matters, we need to borrow funds from your country as a gift for the founding ceremony."
"Oh? How much?"
"Ten billion berries! It's a drop in the bucket for your country."
Everyone was in an uproar.
Katakuri's eyes narrowed. "It seems those brats really caused heavy losses to you Beasts Pirates! Did they send a Calamity to beg for food in person?"
The castle burst into laughter. L'Aquila moved, but King held him back.
Katakuri continued, "Ten billion is no small amount. We can afford it, but why should we pay it? We haven't agreed to attend any ceremony yet."
King asked calmly, "Then what will make you agree?"
"I can't decide this. I have to ask my mother," Katakuri said, standing up. "But before that, I want to settle Wano Country's debt with you first! My family is grateful for your care! Galette, explain!"
Galette stood up angrily, "Yes, brother! When we followed our mother into Wano Country, King took advantage of the situation and sank our ship! He nearly wiped us out and separated us from our mother! So when Perospero and Mama were in a bitter battle on Onigashima, we couldn't help, leading to the current situation!"
Faced with everyone's hostile gazes, King said without hesitation, "That's right. I couldn't tell if you were here to start a war, so I sank you! I would do it again if necessary!"
"I see," Katakuri said, nodding.
At this moment, a tall red-haired man walked in and said loudly, "Katakuri, we've sunk all the foreign ships in the port! No one is left alive!" It was Charlotte Oven, the 4th son of the Charlotte Family, Minister of Baking, and Katakuri's brother, with a bounty of 300 million berries.
King nearly lost his composure. Flames shot up from his back, and his eyes turned bloodshot. He stared at Katakuri. "What do you mean?"
Katakuri walked closer, leading his family members, and said, "Because I couldn't judge if you came to start a war, I sank your ship first! If I had to do it again, I would!"
