Chapter 37: Danzo’s Growing Pizza Obsession
The darkened depths of Root's headquarters were eerily silent, save for the rhythmic tapping of a cane against the stone floor. Danzo Shimura sat at the head of a large mission briefing table, his visible eye scanning the reports in front of him. Around him stood several elite Root operatives, but one stood closer than the rest—Riko, his newly promoted Jonin-level agent, and one of his most promising informants.
Danzo had summoned her for an urgent debriefing.
And as she stood before him, she couldn't help but marvel at the irony of it all.
Here she was, a loyal agent of Raven, being trusted by Konoha's most dangerous schemer.
Danzo's voice was calm but laced with suspicion.
"You have been monitoring Sayuri Arata as per my previous orders?"
Riko nodded sharply, keeping her expression neutral. "Yes, Lord Danzo. She remains an anomaly. Her past is untraceable, yet her wealth and influence continue to grow."
Danzo exhaled slowly, his fingers tapping against the mission scroll. "Troubling."
Riko hesitated for only a moment before bringing up her next concern. "However, there is… another matter that requires immediate attention. A matter that may be even more pressing."
Danzo's visible eye locked onto her. "Go on."
Riko handed him a new report, one containing highly classified information from within the Uchiha Clan. "Mikoto Uchiha has fully awakened her three-tomoe Sharingan."
Danzo's fingers tightened on his cane.
"That woman…?" he muttered under his breath.
Riko nodded. "There's more. According to our latest observations, she has regularly beaten her son, Itachi, in combat."
Danzo's eye widened slightly. "Impossible."
Itachi Uchiha was already considered a prodigy, easily at the level of an elite Jonin at the minimum. If his mother was stronger than him, that complicated everything.
Riko, however, did not hesitate. "We have confirmation. She has repeatedly overpowered him—physically and in Genjutsu."
Danzo exhaled slowly, absorbing this information. His mind was already working through the possibilities.
Danzo leaned back slightly, tapping his cane against the floor. "This is… concerning."
Riko observed him carefully, knowing exactly where his thoughts were going.
"You believe she will be a problem?" she asked, playing her role as his trusted subordinate.
Danzo let out a deep hmm, as if debating his words. "The Uchiha Clan has always been a problem. They are too powerful, too driven by their emotions." His fingers tightened on his cane. "And now, we have a fully developed three-tomoe user who has surpassed an elite shinobi."
He glanced at the report again. "You're certain Itachi has fallen behind her?"
Riko nodded. "It is not just that she is stronger—it is that she is… different." She paused, choosing her words carefully. "She has begun acting outside of clan expectations. Her focus has shifted from being Fugaku's loyal wife to something else entirely."
Danzo's expression darkened.
Mikoto was becoming an independent force.
This was dangerous.
"Shisui Uchiha and Itachi Uchiha have already been completely indoctrinated into the Will of Fire," Danzo murmured, as if reassuring himself. "They will serve the Hokage without question."
But Mikoto?
She was an outlier.
One that would have to be eliminated.
"This does not change our plans," Danzo finally said. "The Uchiha have always been a problem that will eventually require… correction."
Riko inwardly smirked, but kept her expression neutral. There it is.
The eventual Uchiha Massacre, already being considered.
Danzo tapped his fingers against the desk. "Mikoto will have to be handled. Carefully."
Riko tilted her head slightly, playing her part. "She is still bound by her duty as a wife and mother. She has not acted against the village."
Danzo nodded. "Yet. But if she continues to grow stronger, she may become a destabilizing factor."
His voice dropped slightly, his next words more calculated.
"We will begin making preparations. If she becomes… too troublesome, she will be among the first to fall."
Riko nodded solemnly, all the while memorizing every single word.
Danzo set the Uchiha report aside and returned to the next matter.
"Sayuri Arata past remains untraceable," he muttered. "And now, even the Hokage is beginning to suspect her."
Riko rolled her eyes internally.
Yeah, no kidding.
Danzo rubbed his temple. "You're certain of her being linked to the Yuri Knight?"
Riko gave a firm nod. "Yes, Lord Danzo. That child is a prodigy. Her strength is… difficult to measure. But we have still found no solid clue to her identity or whereabouts, but Sayuri is linked to her somehow.
He studied Riko carefully. "I trust your judgment?"
Danzo hummed in thought, tapping his cane against the stone floor. "Monitor her. If she is truly that formidable, we may have to… consider dealing with Sayuri and her link to that kid. Perhaps the author of the Yuri Paradise books needs to meet with an accident."
Riko pretended to ponder this. "Understood, Lord Danzo."
Internally, she was already planning to report everything to Raven.
As Danzo finished the meeting, he offhandedly mentioned something unexpected.
"Riko, I trust you're familiar with the Crusty Kunai?"
Riko blinked. "The… pizza place?"
Danzo nodded. "Their food is… acceptable. I would recommend it."
Riko barely contained her smirk.
Of course. Of course, you love the pizza made by a four-year-old girl. If only you knew. Riko could not wait to report this interesting development to her boss Raven.
She nodded with mock professionalism. "I'll be sure to try it, Lord Danzo."
