Chapter 5: Ch 5: First Fight
The door slowly opened, causing sunlight to fall onto his face. When the door fully opened and he stepped outside, what greeted him was the warm ray of light from the sun, the cold breeze of early morning and familiar, ancient looking, pavement and buildings.
Wang Feng felt the cold breeze and took in a long fulfilling breath, which eased the excitement he was feeling. "It honestly doesn't feel any different.", Wang Feng muttered softly as he watched the usual scenery in front of him.
With a small smile gracing his features, Wang Feng decided to stroll around the sect. So, he walked along the pavement and reached the concreted floor a few steps away from his cabin.
He walked ahead and saw many more cabins, of similar size and style as his, come into view. He remembered that all these belonged to the ordinary desciples, those who are either under the three year period or are between the 7th Stage Tempering Body Realm and initial element realm.
The first 3 years of a disciple's acceptance were considered the testing phase. In these 3 years, all of a disciple's food, clothing, and shelters are provided to them by the Outer Court.
If by the end of the 3 years, the desciple successfully breakthroughs to the initial element realm, he will be promoted from a Ordinary Desciple to a Lower Base Desciple.
But ... If the desciple is unable to even breakthrough the 7th Stage Tempering Body Realm by the end of 3 years, then that Ordinary Desciple will either have to leave the sect or become a Trial Desciple.
Currently, it had only been 4 months since Wang Feng had arrived at the sect, so he was still under the testing period. So he didn't have to worry about finding shelter, food or such.
"Ah, Brother Feng, where were you!? I couldn't find you yesterday!", As Wang Feng was strolling to his rythem, he was called by a voice from behind.
Wang Feng stopped, recognizing the voice from his memories and slowly turned around with a smile. A few steps away from him stood a boy he had met when he first came to the sect.
The boy was of a normal build, had a little tanned skin and shoulder length dark brown hair. He was wearing the standard High Heaven Pavilion Robes, worn by Ordinary Desciples, and was walking towards him with a wide smile.
"Du Zhong, what are you doing outside this early?", Wang Feng spoke with a smirk as he swang his arm around the guy's shoulder. This guy Du Zhong was one of his small list of close acquaintance in the sect. Du Zhong snorted with a smile and retorted.
"That's rich coming from you. Imagine my surprise, coming out of my cabin, seeing 'Mr all-time Serious' having a leisurely stroll first thing in the morning!". Du Zhong sneered towards him.
Wang Feng's lips twitched at his nickname, considering he used to always focus on cultivation here. Wang Feng sighed and spoke while shaking his head, "Just had a good feeling about today and decided to have a stroll, before going back to the cabin, What about you?"
Du Zhong looked at him with a surprised look and asked, "wait ... Only out on a stroll? Don't tell me you forgot man, today's the last day of the month and you haven't challenged anyone after you challenged Zhou Hai!"
Wang Feng suddenly stopped with wide eyes, "Sh*t!". In the High Heaven Pavilion, desciples were allowed to challenge someone every 5 days, but it was up to the desciple if he wanted to or not.
But there was another rule, an Ordinary Desciples must participate in at least 3 fights a month otherwise their point for a whole month would be deducted. An unfair rule, but also something that aligns with the sect's way of training.
This way, the desciples would gain battle experience and have chances to advance stages through pressure brought by the opponent.
Currently, Wang Feng had only fought twice this month, the second time being the one Du Zhong had mentioned, before he started to focus on his cultivation. Now if he didn't duel with someone today, he won't be getting any points for the next month.
An Ordinary Desciple is given 20 Contribution Points per month. While they also gain 2 points from defeating other Ordinary Desciples, which will be deducted from the losers balance.
Just as Wang Feng was about to panic, an ideas came to his mind. He looked at Du Zhong with a strange smile. Du Zhong who saw the look suddenly felt a premonition, his eyes widened as he thought of something.
"You! You wouldn't!...", Du Zhong separated from Wang Feng and spoke with shock and little bit of fear. Wang Feng just smiled brightly and cupped his hands before saying.
"Ordinary Desciple, Wang Feng, 3rd Stage Tempering Body Realm."
Du Zhong grinded his teeths before uttering, "Ahh! Damn it, why did I even remind you, you bastard... *Hahh* Ordinary Desciple, Du Zhong, 4th Stage Tempering Body Realm."
Du Zhong had been a desciple at the sect for nearly a year and was 1 stage ahead Wang Feng, he had better experience in duels than Wang Feng.
But although Wang Feng was at the 3rd Stage Body Tempering Realm, he could still defeat a 5th Stage Body Tempering Realm Martial Artist, which Du Zhong was aware of. So anyone below 6th Stage would hope not to be challenged by him, because it was another rule that the desciples could not decline a challenge, unless the challenger was 3 realms beyond the challenged desciple.
Unbeknownst to the two, Just as the two announced their duel, a shadowy figure appeared above a tree near them and started to watch their battle, "Wang Feng and Su Zhong, now to see who wins."
After Du Zhong introduced himself, the duel was officially started. Du Zhong instantly leapt at Wang Feng, delivering a side kick.
Wang Feng, who was on the receiving end, tried to dodge but suddenly frowned, 'Sh*t, Even with all the previous battle memories and familiarizing, I still don't have that much control over my body.'
Only now did Wang Feng discovered that although he could control his body normally, there was still a difference to how he could react prior to his memory awakening.
He tried to dodge the attack but felt that his body movement was somewhat slow, so he did the next best thing, he turned his body slightly and crossed his arms, receiving the kick.
Wang Feng slid back two steps from the kick and didn't get any time before Du Zhong attacked again, this time using his fist. Wang Feng narrowed his eyes before throwing a punch himself.
The two punches connected, but the two weren't pushed back. The two suddenly retracted their hands and raised their left legs, which again met each other halfway.
The two smirked at each other, before the two swiftly retracted their legs and attacked each other again. Du Zhong again used his right hand to punch and Wang Feng did the same.
But just as the two punches we're about to connect, Du Zhong bended his waist and used his other hand to punch Wang Feng right in the chest, sending him flying.
"I was right, your fighting style is different today, its full of flaws. What happened?", Du Zhong spoke while sprinting towards him and attacking with a roundhouse kick.
Yang Feng barely dodged, "well, I wanted to try something else for now.", 'Of course I can't tell you that I am not too familiar with my own d*mn body.", he thought as he punched Du Zhong. At the same time, he tried to get in sync with the memories of his battles.
The two then started to exchange blows after blows. With every few strikes, Wang Feng felt his control over his body increasing and just after a minute, he was able to move as flexibly as he remembered.
So after that, his blows became faster and stronger, making Du Zhong curse as he was forced in a passive situation. Finally, after three minutes, Wang Feng was able to land an effective hit.
Wang Feng jumped high and attacked by bringing his right leg down with great strength, which was blocked by Du Zhong with both of his arms crossed. But Wang Feng suddenly retracted his leg and swung around mid air, kicking Du Zhong square in the chest with a powerful kick from his left leg.
"Wha...!! *Arghh*", The kick sent Du Zhong flying to the ground a few feet away. "*Ugh* that hurts.", Du Zhong looked up and found Wang Feng smiling down at him with his right foot raised.
"*Che* ease up you bastard! I admit defeat alright.", Wang Feng smirked and lowered his feet before pulling Du Zhong back up to his feet.
"I was just making sure.", Wang Feng spoke with a teasing smirk.
"Right, where were you going anyways?", Wang Feng suddenly remembered and asked Du Zhong. The small smile on Du Zhong's face froze and he reacted just as Wang Feng had before.
"Sh*t.", with that Du Zhong started running towards the sect gate and shouted back at Wang Feng, "I have something important to do, I'll see you later!!"
Wang Feng sweat dropped looking at the running guy. He then shook his head and decided to continue onto his stroll. As it was early in the morning, not many people were outside, so Wang Feng walked around feeling a sense of tranquility washing over him.
When he reached near a far away building, he heard a distant sound of something sweeping against the stoned floor.
He turned his face to look at where the voice was originating from and saw a boy sweeping the floor with a mop in his hand. The boy had a somewhat frail looking physique, neck length black hair held in a hair band, wearing a set of robes worn by Trial Desciple of High Heaven Pavilion.
As soon as Wang Feng saw the figure, his mind shortcircuited for a second before his eyes widened, recognizing the boy. This boy, who was currently sweeping the floor was non other than Yang Kai, the newly demoted Trial Desciple and also the protagonist of the Martial Peak Verse.
'Yang Kai, Nine Heaven Holy Lord, High Heaven Sect's Sect Master, Void Great Emperor, Master of the Void Land, Commander of Mysterious Nether Army, World Master of the Void World and the future strongest being known to this Chaos Universe.'
Wang Feng looked at the frail body of the boy that was sweeping the floor with a somewhat refined movement, but Wang Feng found it hard to attribute all the titles he had thought of, to this ordinary looking youth.
Wang Feng sighed and turned his gaze away from Yang Kai, not wanting to appear as rude by staring at him. 'From what I know, there should still be quite some time before the start of the plot, at least a few months, considering that Yang Kai was an 'experienced' Trial Desciple when the Novel started.'
Wang Feng looked at Yang Kai for a few second, thinking about something, before he sighed and shook his head, "There's still some time."
