Chapter 129: Bouvet Island
Liam lowered both his arms again, now no longer joking around as he looked at the glass Stark Industries skyscraper.
'Now, let's see how much money I can squeeze out of Tony,' Liam thought, starting to walk towards the building.
He still wore his formal clothes, which he had used to meet King T'Chaka a few minutes ago, so he wasn't worried about getting into the building since it was a relatively open space. While there was obviously going to be security, Liam wasn't too concerned about it.
'Upon hearing my name, Tony will immediately be notified and come over. Whether he gets notified through the security themselves or a more advanced technology, doesn't matter.' Liam thought, walking along the sidewalk. 'It's almost guaranteed for him to come over.'
'I just wonder how Tony will respond upon seeing me,' Liam thought, crossing the street. 'And then there's also SHIELD, who will also immediately know.'
While thinking about SHIELD, Liam's expression soured a little. He didn't really like the idea behind SHIELD anymore, nor did he have time for Fury's complicated schemes.
Taking his mind to a better topic, Liam thought about where he would build his headquarters and how it would look.
'The location I'm planning to build my headquarters in is Bouvet Island,' Liam thought. 'It's a part of Norway, but it's completely uninhabited. The land is around 19 square miles, with water fully surrounding it.'
'Hell, the island is so far away from any other land that flying there takes almost as long as flying from San Francisco to New York,' 1Liam mused before putting his mind back to his plan.
'I'll start with a smaller underground bunker of around 500 square meters there and slowly expand it until it reaches the size of a mega bunker with enough space to hold tens of thousands of people,' Liam fantasized. 'A lot of money will be needed for this, and most of all, magic.'
'With money, I can buy the island and hire people to help with the construction, while I can use my magic to create a large enough underground chamber.'
Liam smiled as he stopped walking, finally arriving in front of the Stark Industries skyscraper.
Many people in fancy suits moved in and out of the building, seemingly going to work or having just finished a shift. Without hesitation, Liam walked forward and stood at the end of the line of people.
Up ahead, he could see people getting their identities verified and then being led through a metal detector before finally being allowed inside the building. The number of people standing in front of him in the line slowly started to decrease as the receptionist verified their identities.
Time passed until Liam was next in line. 'Well then, let's find out what'll happen,' Liam thought, stepping forward to the receptionist.
"May I please have your name and see your access card?" the receptionist asked politely.
"My name is Liam Hawthorne. As for an access card? I wasn't given one," Liam answered back politely.
"Alright then, may I know the purpose of your visit?" the receptionist asked while typing Liam's name into their system.
"I'm here for a meeting with Mr. Stark," Liam answered, 'truthfully.'
The receptionist looked stunned for a second before she started typing on her computer once again.
"I'm sorry, but I don't see any meeting scheduled with Mr. Stark under your name," the receptionist answered.
"Oh, is that so?" Liam said in a 'surprised' tone. "That's strange. I was sure I would meet with him here today."
Meanwhile, as Liam continued to talk, messages were send to multiple places through the world. At one particular place, Jarvis alarmed his creator of the situation.
"Sir," Jarvis said, causing Tony to lower his tools.
"What's up, Jarvis?" Tony asked, putting down the blowtorch he was using on his armor and picking up a towel to wipe the sweat from his face.
"Individual 'Liam Hawthorne' has been spotted at the entrance of Stark Industries," Jarvis answered in his robotic voice.
Upon hearing Liam's name, Tony's expression changed to a more serious one.
"What's he doing there?" Tony asked while pulling his repulsor off the stand he had it on.
"So far, he claimed to have a meeting with you but hasn't been let through by security yet," Jarvis said while Tony put the repulsor back in his complete armor set.
"Son of a bitch..." Tony muttered, fully aware that Liam knew he would come over.
"Alright, let him go through and bring him to the lobby," Tony said, putting on his armor. "Tell security not to provoke him and send a message to Rhodes and Pepper."
"It's done, sir," Jarvis responded a few seconds later.
"Good," Tony said as his armor lifted off the ground and shot through a tunnel leading to the sky outside.
After Liam spoke some more with the receptionist, she suddenly exclaimed, "Oh."
"It seems like there was indeed a meeting planned at 4 p.m.," she said to Liam, surprised and confused. "Please wait in the lobby until Mr. Stark's arrival."
"I apologize for the delay. I have no idea what happened," the receptionist apologized. For all she knew, this was an important guest who could personally meet Mr. Stark and had to wait because of an IT error.
"It's fine, it happens," Liam said, smiling. As he had predicted, Tony was aware that he was here and would be coming over himself because, in his eyes, Liam was a threat to the public.
He was guided to the lobby, where he sat down. Multiple servers walked up to him, offering him drinks and snacks while he waited for Tony to arrive, but Liam declined them all.
Not long after, Liam heard a sonic boom in the air outside. Looking at the Iron Man suit, Liam found that it had changed quite a lot since last time. As he watched Tony land on the roof of the skyscraper, the receptionist walked up to him once more.
"Mr. Stark has arrived," she said politely. "Please follow me."
Giving a nod, Liam stood up and followed her.
They went up to the top floor with an escalator, where they stood in front of one slightly larger office door. Behind the door, Liam could hear Tony mumbling something to what he assumed was Jarvis.
"Has Pep taken the rest of the day off? What about Rhodes, is he almost here?" he heard him ask.
Hearing no response, Liam assumed that Tony was indeed talking to Jarvis.
The receptionist seemed unable to hear what Tony was saying behind the door, as she knocked on it to inform Stark they were there.
"Now let's see how this'll go," Liam muttured, smiling as the door opened.
