MARVEL'S MONSTER HUNTER WORLD

Chapter 46: THE PRICE OF POWER

After telling Coulson the location of the battlefield, SHIELD naturally handled the cleanup. As for the difficulties of working underground, that wasn't Watson's concern.

"Watson, do you want to go home directly?" Coulson asked, glancing in the rearview mirror as he drove.

Derick thought for a moment, then turned to Natasha beside him and said, "Are you going back to headquarters? Let me come with you—I haven't seen the SHIELD base yet."

"Perfect timing. Director Fury wanted to meet you, but there hasn't been a chance." As soon as Coulson finished speaking, he noticed Natasha leaning gently on Watson's shoulder. He shook his head helplessly and sighed, "Seriously? Three people in this car—can you at least consider my feelings?"

Watson just smiled, closed his eyes, and dozed off.

System, check experience points.

Dragon race evolution essence ×1

Ancestral dragon essence ×1

Monster expansion pack ×4

Lottery points ×200

Unexpectedly generous. The expansion pack was ×4? And another ancestral dragon essence—what was the system planning? With two evolution essences, should he consider giving one to the prince?

Washington, SHIELD Headquarters

Watson gazed up at the towering SHIELD Triskelion building, hundreds of meters tall. It was truly impressive.

"Evil capitalism…" he muttered.

"Watson, don't forget you're part of this now," Coulson smirked.

Inside the lobby, a crowd of SHIELD agents bustled about in black suits.

"My dear, I'll go first. See you at dinner~" Natasha kissed Watson lightly and walked off, leaving a group of stunned junior agents in her wake.

"Did that just… was that Romanov?"

Coulson sighed. Within minutes, the entire building would know. SHIELD agents were worse gossips than civilians.

Tap, tap, tap.

"Let's go," Coulson said.

The moment Watson stepped into Nick Fury's office, the director's expression turned unreadable.

"Hello, Director Fury," Watson said. "I suddenly feel I should apologize—I shouldn't have used my cat's name to replace yours. I apologize."

"Your cat?"

"Braised Egg, sir. His cat is named Braised Egg," Coulson clarified, his lips twitching.

"...Not funny, Coulson. Don't you have work to do? Close the door on your way out," Fury said.

Nick Fury studied Watson before speaking. "Watson, the strategic and tactical support consultant we hired. I'm Nick Fury, Director of SHIELD. Should I call you a superhuman, a 'zoo keeper,' a great detective, or the new emperor of America?"

Watson originally thought Fury was trying to intimidate him, but then the last title clicked. His mood instantly lifted.

Fury's expression remained unreadable. "In just a few days, you managed to 'convert' one of SHIELD's top-level 7 agents. Though she hasn't been with us long, she's one of our finest. And yet, you turned a deadly Black Widow into a docile kitten? If it weren't for the fact that April Fool's Day is months away, I'd think you two were conspiring."

Watson shrugged, grinning. "So… are we even now?"

"You think trading a senior agent's loyalty for a joke is a fair deal? Not happening."

"Alright, alright, Director Fury. Let's cut to the chase. What do you want?"

Fury leaned against his desk. "We need outside support—your monsters."

"Impossible. They can't stray too far from me. And unless I'm nearby, they might attack indiscriminately," Watson lied smoothly.

"Then provide a steady supply of that serum."

Watson pretended to consider it. "Hmm… The raw materials are hard to come by. I can produce a limited amount for now. But I recently formulated a new potion—detoxification."

"Detoxification? How does that help us?"

Watson smirked. "Maybe you don't need it, but others might. Like, say… a certain snake-bitten Hydra?"

Fury paused. "Effects and duration?"

"Instant. Remember Scott? Back then, I used a prototype. Now it's a finished product. Limited supply. No discounts. $200,000 per vial."

Fury nodded. "Fine. We'll also need another batch of your standard potions."

Watson raised an eyebrow. Fury agreed a little too quickly—SHIELD must have been struggling with this problem for a while.

"I'll also need adjustments," Fury added. "Healing potions must be high-grade only. Endurance potions should last one hour. Those are more practical. We'll pay an extra $10,000 per vial."

"Fine by me. But high-grade healing potions will be $100,000 each—the production cost is higher. High-endurance potions, $50,000 each. That work for you?"

"Agreed," Fury said.

Watson stood and walked to Fury's desk.

System, keep 5 medium healing and endurance potions. The rest—dilute them to 10% strength for minor healing and 1-hour endurance.

Fury picked up his phone. "Send a tech team to my office with storage kits."

Watson grinned. "Alright, Director, here's your order:

77 bottles of high-grade healing potion

104 bottles of high-endurance potion

10 bottles of detoxification potion

Total: $14.9 million.
