Marvel's Omniverse Magic Controller

Chapter 14: Chapter 14: A Turn of Events

Chapter 14: A Turn of Events

"Where are you planning to go? What's the plan?"

Sitting in the back of the truck, George asked Gabriela and the plump driver, Isa.

In the movies, Gabriela had taken the mutant children to the border of North Dakota, but not just because she believed the comics and thought it was the last sanctuary for mutants.

She wasn't a child—she wouldn't blindly trust something from a comic.

Additionally, Ricktor, the leader of the mutant children, had been in contact with an unknown group via radio.

Because of George's mutant identity and his help earlier, Gabriela had already begun to trust him and didn't hide the truth.

"We need to reach the border of North Dakota by 5 PM next Friday and cross into Canada."

"Why Canada? And why that specific time?"

George looked puzzled.

Gabriela explained:

"We've done some research. Before mutants disappeared, Canada was the most mutant-friendly country. So, before deciding to help the children escape, we reached out to the Canadian government.

They're willing to take in these children but don't want to cause any trouble.

That's why we need to reach the border by 5 PM next Friday. They'll interfere with the satellites in that area and meet us on the other side of the border."

"So it's the Canadian government."

George nodded, finally understanding. He had watched the X-Men series and knew the general situation, but some of the finer details were unclear.

For example, he hadn't known that the Canadian government was friendly—or at least not hostile—toward mutants.

However, he soon frowned. Personally, he didn't trust the Canadian government much.

Governments weren't individuals. They had to consider many factors, and a change in leadership could mean a change in stance. Even if the Canadian government had once been welcoming to mutants, what about now?

What if these mutant children ended up as new test subjects?

He wouldn't take such a risk.

So, he shared his concerns with Gabriela.

Gabriela was surprised that George, who had never left the lab, could think so far ahead.

But her response was helpless:

"There's no other choice. Even if we know there might be danger, we have to take the risk. We can't think of a better solution."

Working in such a cruel lab, they were all too familiar with the ugliness of human nature. They worried that the children might end up in another hell.

But they had no choice. They were powerless, at the bottom of society, with only their kindness left.

Staying in the lab meant certain death for the children. Going to Canada at least offered some hope.

"That's life. Sometimes, you have no choice."

George sighed.

In his past life, he had also been at the bottom of society. He had faced many such helpless choices, though none as brutal as this.

After some thought, he realized he didn't have a better solution either. He was a stranger in this world.

But he wouldn't leave his fate in the hands of the Canadian government. Once he delivered the children to the border, he would disappear and go into hiding.

Saving these children was already going above and beyond. He wouldn't follow them to Canada and be controlled by the government.

Escorting them to the border was his limit.

At this moment, he seemed to have forgotten the somewhat selfish reasoning he had used to convince himself at the fork in the road earlier.

---

"We've reached Juárez. We'll stock up on supplies and head straight to the border, then into New Mexico and north to North Dakota.

If all goes well, it should only take about two days!"

After two hours of high-speed driving, the truck entered Juárez, a city in northeastern Mexico. George stuck his head out to look around.

He had heard of this city in his past life, though not for good reasons.

Juárez, located on the southern bank of the Rio Grande in northeastern Mexico, faced El Paso, Texas, across the river. It was known as one of the most violent cities in the world, with nearly 15,000 people killed in criminal incidents during its most chaotic six-year period.

The city was a hub for drug cartels and the primary source of drugs entering the United States.

"Breaking news: Tony Stark, CEO of Stark Industries and the famous playboy, was kidnapped today in Kunar Province, Afghanistan. His whereabouts remain unknown..."

The truck stopped in front of a large supermarket. While Gabriela and Isa went inside to buy supplies, George, who stayed behind, was drawn to the news broadcast on the TV outside.

"The event that led to the birth of Iron Man!"

His body stiffened, and a thought suddenly struck him. A smile slowly spread across his face.

"Maybe there's still a chance."

Recalling all the Marvel movies he had watched in his past life, George carefully considered his options and came up with a new plan.

For him, trusting Tony Stark's character was better than trusting the government. While Tony might be a playboy and a bit arrogant, he was fundamentally a good person.

Moreover, as one of America's wealthiest capitalists, even the government couldn't force him to hand over his Iron Man suits.

It was like Professor X, who had been able to run a mutant school in New York not just because of the X-Men's strength but also because he was a wealthy man from a prominent capitalist family.

If they could gain Tony Stark's protection, these mutant children wouldn't just avoid trouble—they might also get a chance at a normal education and life.

And George could have a safe place to study magic.

As for whether getting involved with Tony Stark would drag him into future events and greater dangers...

That was unavoidable. The priority was to solve the current crisis and buy some time to improve his strength. Power was everything.

Besides, he had his own thoughts on whether to participate in future major events.

If this were the movie universe, he would stay as far away as possible. Even if Thanos snapped his fingers, everyone would be brought back eventually. There was no need to get involved. Why not just focus on studying magic?

But this wasn't the movie universe. It was an unknown Marvel universe mixed with mutants. Things were different.

It was entirely possible that during some major event, the entire Earth would be destroyed. If he was living on this planet, he couldn't escape.

Rather than leaving his fate in the hands of superheroes, he would take control himself.

Perhaps his intervention at a critical moment could help avert disaster and ensure the safety of Earth—and himself.

So, getting involved was inevitable.

"Right now, the most important thing is figuring out how to rescue Tony Stark and make him owe me a favor."

George stroked his chin, deep in thought.

To get Tony Stark, a top-tier billionaire, to genuinely help them, he would need to save his life.

But with his current abilities, how could he rescue Tony Stark? He didn't even know the exact location, only that it was in a cave somewhere in the desert.
