My Goddess is a Tsundere

Chapter 16: Monstrous Summoner

[Level Up!]

[Level Up!]

[Level Up!]

It was another successful day in the dungeon for Bane. After visiting Old Grey's that morning, he headed straight for the dungeon with one goal in mind: making ten thousand Shill.

Bane used fast travel to head straight for the second level and spent hours killing goblins. He'd made good progress on his status and even leveled up his first title:

[Bane of the Slums]: LV 13 (430/2000)

[Title]: Slimy Slayer LV 1 (72/100), Goblin Dispatcher LV 2 (35/1000)

[Strength]: LV 6

[Dexterity]: LV 2

[Mind]: LV 1

[Agility]: LV 6

[Fortitude]: LV 2

[Magic]: LV 1

[Skills]: Appraisal LV 1, Threat Analysis LV 1, Danger Sense LV 1, Passive Healing LV 1, Magnetize LV 1, Night Vision, Feared Hunt

Eventually, Bane came upon a room, one he felt he'd seen before. It was a large, open expanse that led off into multiple tunnels. 'A boss room?' Once Bane stepped inside, his suspicions were confirmed as the entire arena was enveloped in a blue forcefield, preventing anyone from entering or exiting.

He dropped the sack full of XS Energy Crystals to the ground and stretched, preparing for the upcoming battle. He took his time in the dungeon seriously but often found himself being lazy or unprepared because of how easy things were. Most goblins were slow and died with one slash. After hours of that, it was understandable that one could become distracted.

"Ah…" Bane heaved out a long sigh as he raised his arms to the air, then sliced through the air and held his blade ready at his side.

'I wonder what the boss is…' Bane glanced around the open room, wondering when and what would strike. Soon, his questions were answered as an oversized goblin climbed its way out of the dungeon floor like a zombie from its grave.

The ground cracked and jutted out as the goblin clawed its way out, leaving a small crater in its wake. Standing twice as tall as Bane, you'd need to stack five normal goblins to match its height. It wore an uncomfortable smile, its bulging eyes and deformed face paired with its beer belly. Bane squirmed at the uneven anatomy, feeling both horror and intrigue.

The goblin bent down and retrieved a large wooden club from the crater.

Bane wasted no time. Thus far, the strongest enemy he had faced was Luna. He charged at the abomination before him, ready to end this quickly.

"Cree!" The floor boss's scream echoed through the room, but Bane ignored it and pushed through the screeching.

Crack.

Crunch.

Just as Bane was about to reach and strike the goblin, the ground before him cracked as multiple small green hands reached out and clawed their way into the open.

"Tch." Bane clicked his tongue. 'A summon…' It was the first enemy he had encountered with such an ability. Realizing he had forgotten to assess the situation when he rushed in, he used his skill, Threat Analysis. A small box quickly formed before him:

Goblin King: Standing significantly taller than other goblins, the Goblin King uses a large wooden club as its weapon. This enemy also has the ability to summon lesser goblins to the arena. Like most goblins, the Goblin King has strong offense and incredibly weak defenses.

Bane closed the box and looked out at the green army that had formed before him. More than a dozen goblin soldiers now stood in front of their king, with some archers positioned in the back, ready to attack.

'Just like before.' Bane thought as he jumped into the pool of green bodies, making sure to be acutely aware of the archers standing behind their king with their bows taut.

Shing.

Slice.

Bane made his way through the small army. Every time a goblin thought they could attack, Bane was a step ahead. Even when the archers let their arrows fly, Bane expertly judged the trajectory of each and avoided them all.

Soon enough, the green had faded from the battlefield, leaving only a deep purple. With only the Goblin King and the archers behind him, it stood dumbfounded, its club resting in its hand.

"Gah!" The goblin shouted a war cry as it charged toward Bane, its bulging eyes set on defeating the intruder. The Goblin King stopped right before Bane and slammed down with all its might.

The club met the floor with a loud crash, creating a small crater. Bane had already dodged and flanked the Goblin King.

'While it has destructive power and a summon ability, it lacks speed.' Bane thought as he lined up for the perfect attack on the goblin's unprotected backside. As he went to swing, he heard the twang of multiple bowstrings as arrows were released.

Unbothered, Bane simply avoided the slowly approaching arrows by rolling to the side. However, this gave the Goblin King time to regroup and protect itself once more.

'I guess I'll have to get rid of them first.' Bane quickly moved toward the archers, annoyed. They scattered in multiple directions, but Bane's speed was too much for the small goblin archers to handle. All of them were systematically hunted down before the Goblin King could make a move.

Standing as the only one on the battlefield, the Goblin King roared in rage, letting out a deafening cry.

"Grah!" The hulking beast rushed toward Bane with the same attack as before, its club slamming down and shattering the floor, sending debris flying in all directions. However, Bane was unscathed, standing in the same position as before.

"Ah!" Bane let out a war cry of his own as he slid his sword into the back of the beast. He was just tall enough to make a lasting wound on the Goblin King's back.

"Uh!" The Goblin King let out an injured roar and fell onto its hands, purple blood flowing from the open wound Bane had inflicted. The wound pierced its back and exited through its upper chest.

With no way to heal itself, the Goblin King used all its might to pick up the club once more.

"Grah!" The Goblin King aimed for where Bane stood, but it wasn't enough. The club shattered the stone floor, but Bane avoided it with ease. With all its energy spent in that last attack, the Goblin King fell onto its back, struggling for breath.

By then, the goblin was done for. Even if that last-ditch attack had taken out Bane, the damage from a punctured lung and blood loss would have killed the Goblin King. However, Bane put the creature out of its misery, surgically slicing its head off and spewing out a large amount of blood.

The Goblin King's body faded to ash, and Bane was met with a few text boxes:

Enemies Defeated:

Goblin King – 1

Goblin Soldier – 12

Goblin Archer – 8

Rewards:

21 XS-Energy Crystals

+960 XP

Bane closed out of the battle summary and moved to the next box:

[Quest Complete!]

Floor 2 Completion:

Slay all enemy types on the second floor of the dungeon:

Goblin Soldier – Complete

Goblin Archer – Complete

Goblin King – Complete

Rewards: 5000 Shill, two Skill Points

Bane gazed at the completion rewards happily. 'If I didn't have enough crystals to break ten thousand Shill, with that, I certainly do now.' Bane thought, checking his balance to see it was at exactly six thousand Shill.

Bane closed out of the quest text box and opened his status to assign his points.

[Bane of the Slums]: LV 15 (1390/2000)

[Title]: Slimy Slayer LV 1 (72/100), Goblin Dispatcher LV 2 (56/1000)

[Strength]: LV 7

[Dexterity]: LV 2

[Mind]: LV 1

[Agility]: LV 7

[Fortitude]: LV 2

[Magic]: LV 1

[Skills]: Appraisal LV 1, Threat Analysis LV 1, Danger Sense LV 1, Passive Healing LV 1, Magnetize LV 1, Night Vision, Feared Hunt

Bane applied the points to Strength and Agility. Receiving those bonus points was incredibly helpful—it essentially worked as a free level-up without affecting the XP needed to level up.

Bane gazed proudly upon his updated status. After a moment of self-reflection, Bane walked over and grabbed the sack that was practically overflowing with Energy Crystals. Slinging it over his back, he retrieved the crystals that lay on the floor from the earlier battle.

The last thing he did before leaving was exit the boss's room and enter the stairs down to the third floor of the dungeon:

[Fast Travel Destination Unlocked!]

[Dungeon Floor 3 Entrance]

Bane nodded, assuring himself that he now had the ability to fast travel freely to the third floor, before using that same ability to head back to the dungeon's entrance.

Bane emerged from the dungeon cautiously, on the lookout for any would-be thieves or Luna. She was always a thought that loomed in the back of his mind. The quest was always active, and a time would come when he would get his revenge.

"What…" Bane heard hushed whispers coming from people looking in his direction. Just then, his face contorted as he thought of his revenge on Luna.

"Ahem." Bane coughed, composing himself when he noticed he had onlookers. He quickly exited the scene and made his way to the Guild Hall.
